I went in to get a gift for a friend this Monday night at the end of the Labor Day holiday weekend. I saw plastic red apples and asked the sales associate; Tanya how much they were, because one would be perfect for my gift. Tanya told me the plastic apples were not for sale; rather they are a promotion the store is holding this weekend. If a customer buys a pound of candy they get it free. This was perfect for my gift so I turned around and bought a pound of candy. When I went up to check out I handed the bag of candy to Tanya & asked if this was a pound? After having to zero out the scale several times it said I had 1.145 lbs. I was happy & paid $ 13.80. Tanya knowing I expected to get a plastic apple to put the candy in says to me, «You did earn a free gift, but it is over behind the blue wall between the two silver balloons.» I was confused & asked about the free plastic apple and was told, «That does not start until this coming Friday.» I was & felt I was miss led. I looked at the«free» wall & there was nothing I wanted & I would have not bought the pound of candy. I think Tanya gave very poor customer service & did not communicate the way she should have about the plastic apple promotion. I was mad & said angrily, «Thank you very much for that!» To which she replied, «Have a nice day.» If Tanya has a clue she does not care she miss led me and gave very poor customer service. No, I will not go out of my way to go to this candy store & next time I go in I will think twice about if I really want to give them my money.

Candy Tyme is filled with a wide-variety of bulk and specialty candy but for me, what really sets this particular store apart is its outstanding customer service. As salespeople in the hospitality industry, my co-worker and I travel to Salem once a year to do a big sales blitz and we use Candy Tyme to buy all of our Jelly Bellies we use as sales give-aways(we typically buy anywhere from 10 – 15 pounds of the jelly beans). Kylee, the sales associate who assisted us, was so friendly and efficient and was very, very helpful. In fact, we had to call her with an additional order and since we had wiped the store out of the ’49 flavor variety’, Kyle was nice enough to hand mix a bunch of different flavors to come up with something similar to the 49 flavor variety and have them all bagged and ready for us to pick up. In a time when customer service doesn’t seem to be a priority with a lot of stores, I have to commend Kylee for going above and beyond. She’s a great addition to the Candy Tyme store.

I don’t like this Candy Tyme or any other Candy Tyme in any other mall. Why?, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. CT is nothing more than an overpriced candy shop. All the candy is sold in bulk at exorbitant prices. How can the owner of this store sleep at night knowing that he’s selling M and M’s for $ 12/lb??? On top of that, the pricing signs are misleading. The signs say Candy: $ 4 per ¼ lb, with the ‘per ¼ lb’ being just small enough that a mother with insane children wouldn’t notice. Give me a real candy store with real unusual candies, not some over-hyped dump that sells Reese’s and gummy worms.

The folks here are all fabulous. They are friendly and helpful, whether you are looking for a small gift, or need a chocolate fix, or just have a sweet tooth and want to look around till something sounds good. They have a high tolerance and lots of smiles for crazy children running around like, well, kids in a candy store I guess. They offer a discount if you are going to a movie, just show the stub. They also offer a weekly special for 3.99 a pound. They carry a wide variety of bulk candies, candy bars, gum, sugar free, boxed candies, Webkinz and other stuffed animals, and my favorite, a wall of Hello Kitty stuff! A must stop anytime you’re in the mall. Improves the kids’ shopping endurance by a mile
