We love coming here for breakfast or brunch on the weekends. The food is great, the people are very friendly and the service is great too. Nancy and I both like the migas here, I get them with the sausage. An added bonus is the coffee is good here and I never have to add cream and sugar to smooth it out.

Tasty but not mind blowing. Loved the feel of the place! The staff and other customers, locals, were very nice!

I love to stop in at McCain’s Anytime I am in Salado at breakfast or lunch. I almost always get their chicken salad sandwich and soup but today I had the gourmet grilled cheese and asked them to add some ham for me. It was heavenly! The coffee is amazing. Make sure and get some of their Salado blend ground coffee to take home! And don’t forget the dessert, they are all great but especially the merengue pies!

Salado, TX. «Nestled in the heart of Central Texas is the beautiful Village of Salado. Immersed in history, this small Texas town has everything»( ) This small Texas town has McCain’s Bakery & Café. the place of my breakfast on a Sunday in late February ’16. This is a quintessential small town café and exactly what I hope to find when exploring new areas. In these small towns, you meet people that where many hats. like restaurateur(slash) real estate agent. Fact. This establishment was bumping this morning. So much so that I thought we were in for a wait for my much needed morning grub. Our group of 4 were sat immediately and greeted with the largest smile I’d seen in a while(things really are bigger in Texas). There was so much to take in. The locals were here. The room filled with the murmur of morning conversation. What did I eat on this morning? I almost don’t remember. It was an omelet. I was so taken aback by the small town lovin’ feeling that the food was not the entire focus of the experience. Our meals were fresh, served hot(if appropriate), not necessarily ambitious but definitely delicious. Could not ask for friendlier service.

3.5 stars This is a cute little breakfast stop mostly full of locals. They have everything you could need in the basic breakfast realm. They also have a pancake called the Guatemalan that’s pretty cool. My parents love the Salado Scramble. Around Halloween and other occasions, they have beautifully decorated sugar cookies. Service is very sweet, but occasionally a little out of it.

Stopped here on way to Dallas. Great breakfast and excellent service. Frenchtoast with bananas was a big hit as well as the omelets and biscuits. We will be back.

I picked this place and we’re all glad I did. It’s easy to find and just a short distance off I35 at Salado. The service was very fast. My biscuits and sausage gravy tasted homemade. Really, so good. My husband and son had omelettes. Best they’d ever had they said. I definitely recommend it!

A quaint little café with really good food! I’ve had the chicken salad sandwich a couple of times. It’s incredibly good. A side a cheesy potato soup that was smooth and silky with a very full potato flavor. Not watered down like some soups. Very filling… Yummy! The BLT ‘s are great too. Our server was wonderful. Lisa is a very sweet lady. Very helpful and the regulars love her. The village of Salado is worth the trip to this little eatery. Lots of shopping and you can jump in the creek if you get hot:) try it out. I think you’ll love it.

Everyone looks lost in this place! The lady at the front cash register was unhelpful at best. We had to seat ourself and she brought us one menu. You would be putting her out to come in eat some lunch. Still waiting on my tea. O just got it. Only 15 to 20 min wait for some tea. I guess McCain has lost there central Texas hospitality. Hope the next guy has better luck with this small sandwich shop. That is what it is a small sandwich shop with very little to offer.

We stopped there for a quick breakfast after staying in Saledo for a wedding. The breakfast was great and so was the service! It really seemed like a place where the locals go!

Had a wonderful breakfast served by really nice people. My wife had a huge pancake and I had a simple traditional southern breakfast. I highly recommend McCain’s for breakfast.

The food was great. But they were short staffed so we had to wait about twenty minutes for our order to be taken. The staff did what they could and were very friendly.

We arrived at 10 :15 and we didn’t get any aproach until 10:35 by a young gentleman. Then he point it to Lori a short very busy young woman. Food was great! Presentation was very nice and flavors were good. If, you coming from Austin like we did for the food is on fleek…

Charming little bakery café. Staff were nice and friendly. They do breakfast and lunch. They have a typical small town café menu. Featuring items like benedict, migas, quiche, biscuits and gravy, sandwiches, soups, chicken fried steak(skillet fried), salads, pastries, coffees, pies, cakes, and, cookies. Man, that’s a lot of variety. We were in Salado, and, first wanted to try the Stage Coach Inn. It wasn’t open. So, we drove on and played our little game of «see it shout». Which is when we are forced to revert to plan B, the first person to see a place and shout wins. I won! Went in and were seated immediately. The chairs were quite uncomfortable, but, tolerable. We ordered the chicken fried steak(CFS) and the reuben with potato chips. The mashed potatoes that came with the CFS were real potatoes. They were good(fresh is best, right?), but were cold. Pointed this out to the waitress and she was a bit dumbfounded as how to handle it. Umm, how about just bringing out another side that is warm? The CFS was skillet fried which is a nice alternative to deep fried. The Reuben was interesting. Very poorly executed. The Thousand Island dressing was the dominating factor on the sandwich. It was a bit overwhelming. I ate it, but, would never order it again. They use boars head meat(awesome), but, the corned beef flavor wasn’t in that sandwich today. The potato chips were just that. Simple and boring. I would have enjoyed kettle cooked much better. Overall just an ok kinda place. If I’m ever in Salado again, I wouldn’t turn them down.

Three of us ate breakfast and we all enjoyed our meals. Waitress was super nice as we tied up her table for a couple of hours. It was between breakfast and lunch so it was not crowded. I had a pancake which has a South American name which I can’t remember, with bananas and walnuts. It was good and I would get it again. Nice friendly place across from the gazebo in Salado.

We came in on a cold winter day and had to keep our jackets on because it was so cold inside the café. The chairs were uncomfortable. I ordered a cappuccino, but what they gave me was a latte. There was hardly any foam. It was still good, but it was not what I wanted. Only a couple of their sandwiches are available for the half sandwich, half soup deal. I ended up trying the chicken fried steak sandwich. The sourdough bread was good but tasted more like plain white bread. The sandwich was interesting, but I don’t think I would order it again. The sandwiches themselves were good. We also shared the potato-cheese soup which I recommend. Overall, the sandwiches were good, but I don’t see myself returning based on the other issues.
