We’re not from the area but we stopped here after hiking Pickle Springs. The interior was of course where we got our first impression… mounted deer, elk, bear, ect. Very rustic and interesting, and as a family of hunters/fishermen, we loved it. They offer lot of seating and an upstairs banquet room as well. We sat down and our waitress was pretty quick to the table and got our drink orders, then came back for the food orders in good time, she was friendly. Our group ordered 2 of the fried chicken dinners with green beans, salad and baked potato; and the 10 oz sirloin with green beans, salad and fries. Our salads were fresh, topped with shredded cheese, a few tomatoes and a couple slices of onion, and ranch on the side. They were fresh, however my only complaint about the salads is that the majority of the lettuce was the tough, white, somewhat bitter middle of the head of lettuce rather than the leafy green outer leaves. Croutons definitely would have been nice but not not a lot of places top with Croutons anymore it seems. We did get a basket of crackers though. Our food came in decent time as well, and we were pretty impressed.(We’ve had some disappointing food at restaurants lately.) The fries were good, they weren’t homemade but they were crisp and seasoned well. The few bites of steak I stole from my husband were great; they did a very good job of enhancing the steak’s natural flavor rather than smothering it with seasonings like I’ve experienced at many restaurants. I feel that it takes a lot more skill to make a steak taste so good on its own, rather than plastering it with spices, so for that… the chef who grilled that gets a big thumbs up! The green beans were decent, it would have been nice to have fresh green beans of course but for the price you can’t expect that. I’d rather have my money go towards good meat than the beans to be honest. The baked potato was nice, it came with two packs of whipped butter and a pouch of sour cream. I’m fine with that, and the whipped butter is a lot better than those tiny little hard packs of unspreadable frozen butter like at cracker barrel. The fried chicken was great. Hot, good flavor and wasn’t dried out. My only note on the chicken is that after a few bites the breading seemed just the slightest bit granular. But like I said, it was pretty darn good. It makes places like KFC look like a joke. No one else at the table commented on the breading feeling a bit granular, so maybe I’m just sensitive to it. I would definitely order again, but it would be a tough decision between that and the steak. Our check came and we got a couple boxes for leftovers and cups to take our drinks. All in all I would definitely recommend, and we’ll definitely stop in again after hiking, or camping at nearby Hawn State Park. Good medium/large portions at a fair price, fun rustic atmosphere, and friendly staff.

It’s a country bar with spunk. Food has always been okay, but they need to do something about getting the food to you quicker. Would also be good to have some better specials since bar food is boring.

Anytime I go to visit my grandparents, this is the first place that I want to go. I love looking at all of the animals hanging on the wall while I wait for my food. I’ve only been for lunch but I’ve always had a pleasant experience with the service and food.

We live in St. Louis more down shooting pictures of elephant rock. We heard about this place having great fried chicken. We asked around and we were told the name of the restaurant. It’s a big nice open floor plan restaurant. Fried chicken is better than most but not the best. The waitresses were all very nice and friendly. The salad bar was less expected. Overall if you’re in the area and love fried chicken I would recommend it especially to the gentleman of chicken. And you know who you are!

I don’t usually find myself midway between Farmington and Ste. Genevieve Missouri, but it’s nice to know that I can grab a beer and some grub at Midway Bar & Grill. I’m not the deer hunter/country boy type, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you’re a culture vulture type and want to see rural Missouri, then this is a great place to check out. The walls are lined with an impressive selection of mounted deer, elk, turkeys and various other animals. Almost everything inside is made of wood except for maybe the drinking glasses and forks. Our visit was on the weekend during lunch time, but I suspect this place would be a lot more fun on a Friday or Saturday night. I can visualize Midway as a wild place at nighttime with beer guzzling and rowdy bar fights and can just imagine getting my ass kicked after a few too many beers. Unfortunately the food isn’t as interesting as the atmosphere. My grilled chicken sandwich consisted of a tough breast(probably cooked from frozen) topped with cheese, BBQ sauce and jalapenos. 2 stars for the food, but 4 stars for the cultural experience of country life in the St. Francois Foothills of Missouri.

Swung by Midway for lunch while winery hopping in Ste. Gen… my best friend lives in Cape Girardeau and I’m in St. Louis, so we are highly amused that we can eat at a place called Midway that’s directly in between both of us. It’s the little things. Hooooly dead animals everywhere. Just be aware ahead of time if you can’t hang. There is also apparently a very popular gun raffle that I chose to opt out of. It’s a very, very casual place, so be prepared for the service to echo that as well. I decided to get the reuben, and it was pretty good! Lots of good stuff on that sandwich, and the fries were great as well. They make decent mixed drinks, and that’s really all you can ask for at a place like Midway. I’m sure we’ll meet here again for a casual lunch & superb people watching!

I am highly amused by the first review of this establishment, because with all honesty, it couldn’t be further from the truth. I have eaten at Midway on many occasions, and without a doubt have had an enjoyable experience each and every time. Given the fact that the majority of the clientele that frequent the place are bikers, hunters and blue collar workers and their families, the rustic wood walls, stairs, and assorted animal kills mounted on the wall give the place great look and make your eating an entertaining experience. I have had burgers, salads, and popcorn shrimp as my lunch /dinner fare, and haven’t been disappointed yet. the service has been great as well, with waitresses that serve with a smile, keep your glasses filled, and follow up to see how things are and if you need anything. its not a quiet place, but considering it is a bar/grill the atmosphere is pretty much self explanatory, if your looking for a quiet place to dine, you will do better someplace else, if your looking for a quick, inexpensive meal, then look no further than the Midway…

I couldn’t disagree more with the first review — no offense Jenny… Friends and I stopped here shortly after leaving St. Louis and headed to Chaumette for a wedding. Having passed all the other fast food places we suddenly realized we were starving and needed to eat… Midway pops up in my Unilocal nearby places feature. After reading the first review we were skeptical but did not have another option — we were not disappointed! Is the food spectacular, no, but it’s bar food which we all agreed was great! No one in our group complained about their order, ranging from burgers, to grilled cheese, to fried shrimp, and appetizers. Our waitress was very nice and hospitable and accommodated all of our orders and requests. Being«city folk’ the animal heads all over can be a little strange but we thought it gave this place it’s charm. Doubt we’ll ever be back to those neck of the woods but if we are, I would stop at Midway again. What prevents me from giving it a 5 star rating is that patrons are still allowed to smoke inside(but this is true all over MO). Having smoke allergies and being used to places where restaurant smoking is banned, this was a little difficult to get over. But all in all a great place! Clean, quick, and yummy bar food at great prices!

Welcome to Ste. Genevieve county’s redneck hangout headquarters! Seriously be prepared for animal heads on almost every inch of the walls; smoke filled air; camouflage hats, shorts, skirts, and shirts; drunken debauchery; and a gun of the month raffle. Apparently this is also the place to be if you’re getting married, having a birthday or celebrating your latest deer head mounting and don’t want to leave the middle of nowhere to celebrate. That’s just a summary. I am not kidding. The food sucks. We have lake property nearby and came here looking for entertainment(which we clearly got from said sightings above) and because we heard that the food was great. Lies, all lies. The onion rings were the best thing they had but were still very sub par compared to our beloved«The Anvil» restaurant in downtown Ste. Gen. Our basket of fries looked like they were half eaten. The elk burger(supposed to be very lean) tasted like a freezer burned slab of meat that was microwaved and thrown on a mini sized bun with unmelted cheese. I would have been more satisfied while sober at white castle if you know what I mean… The only positives… they have a ski ball machine and they had a kick ass band that started playing at 9. They totally rocked and we would have stayed to listen but feared for our lives as there were gun of the month ads posted as well as drunks everywhere. Drunk people and potential concealed weapons in the same room don’t mix well with us. If you don’t expect much you just might be impressed. Culture shock achieved. Midway 1, Jenny 0.
