Great selection of sushi to Thai food. Service was fast although it was a slow night. Most likely due to it pouring rain out on a weekday evening. I ordered the Mexican which came with asparagus. Wasn’t expecting that in the roll. It was good though. We had several other rolls. All were good and good portion sizes.

Came in for lunch and it was pretty busy, but that’s pretty common in this area. They do offer a great lunch special, 2 rolls, soup or salad and a small order of edamame for $ 8. Some of the rolls offered are spicy salmon, salmon, alaska, tampa, spicy tuna, and japanese bagel. Everything was very fresh. The server did apologize for the wait since it did take a little longer than expected. We also tried a volcano roll, which is served with conch. The menu includes thai dishes as well. It’s nice to have additional sushi options in the area. The service was great even with the extra wait. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. We will definitely be back!

I personally haven’t tried the sushi. Ordered korean bbq and tofu pad thai. The barbeque was okay, nothing special. The pad thai had a lot of flavor and spices but was otherwise very dry and unimpressive. The tofu was ?? I dont even know. I’ve never seen fried tofu like this. It actually had a soggy breading of some sort and was added on top without any of the sauce so it was flavorless. Im not one to complain about price, but if a place is going to charge double what every other thai restaurant does, it should be good?

The best sushi I have had. I love sushi, would eat it at any time any place. I have traveled all over eating sushi in various locations of the world, and hooks to date is still my favorite. Great variety and original rolls. Favorites are TST, no name, shaggy dog, and Florida! Must try!

Good food, fast service, easy parking, when crowded can be noisy with everyone talking. Defiantly keep coming back.

I’ve been reading the reviews and am quite shocked that this place only has 3 stars. I’ve been to the old location once and the new location once, but I have ordered take out several times. Both times dining in was great. The food was delicious and the service was pretty good. The new location is larger than the previous and more spacious. I love this place. The crispy rice is delicious as well as the Jab Chae. I really enjoy the food here tremendously. The sushi is pretty creative as well.

Attentive, knowledgeable, staff. Awesome selection. Delicious food. Don’t even bother with the giant menu, let the manager recommend. Shaggy Dog is aces.

I tried to call tonight for some take out. The restaurant opens at 5. So I called. No answer. Called at 5:05. No answer. Called every five minutes until 5:50. No one ever picked up. Maybe the phone cord was severed in a furious fish cutting accident? I don’t know. The sushi is decent if you can actually get it served to you. This location is run by incompetent people. Avoid.

Decided to go try out their new location with a friend for lunch. When it was time to order we ordered 2 rolls and decided if we wanted another we would wait til we finished the 2 to see if we were still hungry. Unfortunately after we finished the 2 roll and went to order another our waitress informed us the kitchen was closed. That would have been nice to know before we sat down 10 mins ago! So we go to pay, my friends magnetic strip on the back of her card was demagnetized and she informed the waitress sometimes it doesn’t swipe, you have to key in the numbers(her new card is on the way, until then this is her only form of payment) the waitress comes back telling her they can’t key in the numbers only a manager can and there’s no manager she needs another form of payment so she must find a bank and bring the money. Making my friend feel like she did something wrong. At this point I wanted to speak to a manager this is no way to run a business(as I am a business owner) but they informed me they have no manager to call. We asked if they could Just wrote down the credit card number and have the manger key it when they re open For dinner later BC my friend was in a rush she didn’t have time to find a bank… but he said no she ended up having to drive over 40 blocks to a bank and then back(over 80 blocks) to take care of her check. Not to mention the guy who made her go to the bank came out wrote down her tag and made her feel like a criminal. I’ve never seen anything like this. I won’t be back that’s not the way you do business, we eat out all the time they will never get our business again.

Aug 6, 2015 Had dinner at Hook’s tonight in 84% temp. We complained and were told the waitress is sweating too. No Manager ever came over to offer apologies or even a discount for it being so uncomfortable. If this is how they are going to treat customers they aren’t going to have repeat customers. Experience and food is everything!

Our Sushi Chef was Jason, I was there Monday night I think. His wrap of the Fantasy and New Years roll was amazing. I also had the sweet Potato noodles. The ingredients mix well and tasty. Gosh, wish i can drive back and get some more sushi. His service and the other lady waitress that night went well.

Food was awesome and perfect. The only reason for 3 stars is the service is terrible. We were sitting for over 10 minutes after being seated before we were asked for a drink, at that point already made up our mind on sushi. Again, the food was great and cooked to perfection. After we were done eating our plates sat on the table for over 15 minutes before we placed our to go order to bring home. All in all we invested over 1−½ hours for dinner to eat 4 rolls of sushi and get 2 rolls to go. Not the best service but definitely some of the best sushi in the area.

This is my second time at this location. Let me first say that I loved the first location and was so excited when this one opened. Our first experience wasn’t the best wasn’t the worst. The food was ok, service was not good. Here I am back to give it a try and the same thing… food was just ok and the service was actually worse. So disappointed and really wonder what happened to Hook’s.

We have tried twice now to like this location for Hook’s. It just isn’t cutting it. It is a prime location for a sushi joint, however — hence you will have to wait. It gets crowded in there pretty quick, and it will be a bit stuffy on a busy night. We had the tuna for an app, which I needed to drench in the sauce because it wasn’t super fresh. Probably should have sent it back, but whatevs. Another thing we noticed, was that for some reason, the sushi always comes out hot, and I don’t order fried tempura rolls. Its really gross to try to eat a roll with warm salmon on top — bleh. If we give it a third try, maybe I’ll opt for one of their fried rice or teriyaki dishes. Management: crank that A/C down. Womp womp.

Not a good first time. I love Hooks on 9th, but this place is a joke. Not busy, at least 12 tables open, took 20 min for a server to come to just get our drink order. Then was pushy while ordering. Never got our appetizer, and the food took about 35 min to come out. The food was ok, so that’s why it gets 2 stars. I hope it gets better and this is just growing pains.

I’ve had take-out from here since my first review and it was pretty good. It was definitely comparable to the older location. I look forward to eating in the restaurant and potentially upgrading my rating even more.

The 2nd location for Hook’s just recently opened and I’ve had the opportunity to dine here twice for lunch. I’ve been to the first location over on MLK and I haven’t been a huge fan. That location is just a lot smaller and crowded and not the most comfortable dining experience. Parking is also harder to find there. None of these issues are at the new location though which I’m happy about! The layout is open and spacious. The sound is quieter because the tables are more spread out. Also the sushi chefs are top notch and the service has been EXCELLENT even though they just opened!!! Food has been good. I’ve had their Korean food and was impressed. Their Thai cuisine is ok. Sushi is great and fresh. The only two things I’d wish would be changed is that the sushi bar is super high. Part of the fun of sitting at the sushi bar is being able to watch the chefs prepare their art and interact with them. The table makes it impossible which makes it a better place for solo diners to eat. Plus the huge flat screen tv makes it for a better solo dining experience. Second thing I would change is that they aren’t open(yet?) for lunch during the weekends. Overall though a great sushi addition to the area and a huge improvement from their first location!
