I’m thankful for the UnilocalERS that came before who posted reviews. My wife had tried the Health Food, She was Loved the salads. Amazing place to Health Food, I’m giving it 5 stars.

Had a perfect Beet Salad here. Wish I had time to try more. Next time for sure. Very cute ambiance. Had lunch again 2⁄25 and repeated the beet salad with some delicious tomato basil soup.

My broken arm and I went to meet up with some friends for a Saturday lunch.(My broken arm is about as useful as a small dog in a cute purse, and since it’s in a sling I refer to it as one would a pet. It’s less useful than a pet, though.) Expecting a long wait, I prepared by actually having a legitimate breakfast for once. Walking in, it turns out I didn’t need to worry. It was busy, yes, but the wait was maybe five minutes from the time I walked in the door to the time we got a table. I was intrigued by this place because I recently learned that alcoholic milkshakes are a thing. A real thing! I was so excited! I’m still so excited! Why did I not know about these before?! Greatest. Thing. Ever. Anyway, they have a good selection of them here that are house-mixed along with the(apparent) classics(Grasshopper is not just a boozy pie, y’all!!). Deciding to save the boozy milkshake for dessert, I ordered my standard(strong) mimosa and proceeded to peruse the menu. I saw beignets and knew I needed an order of those. They were pretty standard. Nothing special, but still good. For the main, I had the W6BLT, which was delicious. The fries it came with… not so much. They weren’t seasoned, and whatever they were fried in did not add any flavor. I didn’t even bother with them. Then, the real reason I was there: the adult milkshake! After going over my options, I opted for Mom’s Salted Caramel. Ohhhhh so good. Absolut Vanilla, dark cacao, caramel, and a vanilla milkshake in one glorious glass. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas! I wanted to order another one but was fit to bust at that point. I want another one soon, though. So very soon. I probably wouldn’t come here for the food again. It’s fine, but it’s not particularly appealing to me either. Besides, a milkshake has nutritional value(It has calcium and stuff in it!). I’ll come for one of those every dang day. Also, the cocktail list looks fascinating(and cheap, huzzah St. Paul!).

This one’s been on my list for a while. I’m glad I finally made it over there. It’s a pretty cozy little place as well so that was nice. I tried the Pub Curry Stew which was excellent. It was full of veggies and I decided to add chicken. So flavorful! I also got a small side of fries and a side of curry to dip them in as the menu suggested. The service was outstanding as well. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to go back and try some other menu items!

Great place on the east side. It really is an asset to the neighborhood. I had the poutine and it was really good. It had sausage in the heavily garlic flavored gravy. I thought it was a far stretch from the original poutine but I thought it was really good! A friend had the fish and chips and said they were on par with the best in St. Paul. I went there with co-workers and everyone(5 people) enjoyed the 5 different meals. That’s a good sign(5 for 5). The fare is about a buck more than other establishments on the strip but it’s a cut above the rest and the atmosphere is great. Light, festive, excellently renovated original oak bar. I wish the portions were a tad bigger.

Went for brunch on a Saturday morning at 10am. It was COLD outside and it was cold inside too. They had a drape and did a good job attempting to keep the cold out but unfortunately it didn’t happen enough. Our waitress was phenomenal! She was friendly, attentive but not over bearing. Now onto the food and drinks. My partner got a Bloody Mary and some pinkish drink with gin. The Bloody was spicy, too much for me, but he liked it. The gin drink was the worst I’ve ever had but he also thought that one was ok. It was super tart and bitter, neither thing I like. The food was stellar! I had the shrimp and grits-spicy, maybe a little bit too much but it had really good flavor and a fair amount of shrimp! My partner had the corned beef hash-this was ok, I thought the potatoes should have been crisper. We also had the Dutch which was delicious! Mnmm, that was my favorite part of the meal. Next time I’m coming for lunch so I can get the farmers platter that sounded amazing. Ward 6 is a great spot in St. Paul!

Great for brunch! The shrimp and grits are delicious and served with eggs. They are not afraid to add some real spice to the brunch entrees. My husband tried the«Disaster» which he really enjoyed — it also had some good kick in it. It can get very loud in here and sometimes there is a long wait… I would say worth going for brunch if you come early and beat the crowd.

Amazing food — we started with the fries(good but needed salt) then the«Health Food» which is fried veggies and a hollandaise dip(SO good) and then hubs had the salmon risotto(too salty but he really liked it anyway) and I had the Pub Curry with chicken(yum!) Finished off with the Mom’s Salted Caramel adult milkshake… heaven in a glass. All in all a great first W6 experience and a fabulous birthday dinner for me!

Friday night dinner club. They have Hamm’s beer, three buck pints. They were awesome! Three of us had the burger(grass fed beef) specials, cooked perfectly too, I might add! I had the shrimp po boy, pretty darned tasty. Nice soft, yet crispy french bread and a spicy aoli on it! French fries were average, but the lamb flat bread for apps and the fries smothered in meat gravy and cheese was excellent! Definately in our top five of places we will retun to! Owner was very nice and stopped and chatted with everybody, knew all the regulars by name and made you feel at home. Staff were also very friendly and efficient, and made great suggestions. All around great dining experience. We will be back in the summer to sit outside and try their brunch.

What a great find on the East Side. I stepped back into time entering Ward 6. An old school bar in the style of Monte Carlo in Minneapolis or old Grandmas in Duluth before modernization. The parking is in a free adjacent lot or on the street. Safe area. Greeting at the door was friendly and we were seated in a comfortable wooden booth. The large windows provided warm sunshine on a cold day. A local newspaper reviewer suggested the best Rueben sandwich in the metro was to be found at Ward 6. The surprise were the fries. Crispy. Covered in parsley. Amazing flavor. The sandwich was excellent. A traditional middle class and business clientele at lunch. Wait staff are fast and helpful. So many items on the menu looked tasty. I will be back. A great place to bring family or friends visiting the area. Prices are very reasonable. Enjoy Ward 6.

Ward 6 has been on my fish and chips list for quite a while. I had read how they fry their fish in beef fat. Yes beef fat. For those who have had duck far fries, its the same concept. Frying in beef fat adds a deeper flavor and richness to whatever you are frying. This made me excited! After working late on a Friday night we decided to go our for dinner. Being that it was Friday night we decided on fish fry. How appropriate. Ward 6 was easy to get to as they are located on Payne just north of St Paul. There is plenty of parking along the building and in back and they were busy. Usually a good sign. Inside there is a long classic wood bar that spans most of the restaurant. Inside there is a stage for live music. There was a nice mix of people of all ages. We were greeted quickly and had just a short wait before we were seated. I noticed that all the servers were just wearing their everyday clothes instead of some sort of uniform. I thought this was pretty cool. As we sat down we overheard some of the servers talking to their customers by name. Another cool thing. We knew what we were going to order but still took a quick look at the menu. I liked the options. From a Turkish flat bread appetizer to sandwiches and meals there were a lot of options. Our fish arrived soon after it was ordered and it looked great. I wanted this to be so good and that’s where things changed. It was just ok. My wife’s was less than ok. I tried a bite of hers and her fish was hard to cut with a fork. The batter was almost rubbery and the fish had no flavor. My batter was crispy and cut with a fork however still didn’t have that much flavor. It was kind of bland. The fries were fresh cut and tasty however the fish was underwhelming. Maybe it was an off night and maybe next time we’ll try something different as their menu did look good. We just felt the fish and chips was ok. The service was really good and the staff was friendly. Hopefully we can come back and try something different as Ward 6 seems like a really great place.

I wanted to check this place out because everyone around town was raging about it. I went during lunch and was surprised that they did not have a huge variety on their(lunch) menu. However, I ordered the pot roast sandwich and it was delicious! A bit dry, so add some sorta sauce to it! There was a large group that was there, so it was a bit noisy. Was a bit annoyed by that. My daughter ordered buttered noodles and didn’t like that. Not much to choose from the kid’s menu. I don’t think I will be returning for anything else, besides maybe to have a drink or try breakfast/brunch.

The beer selection is great and the bar tender was very knowledgable and able to help me pick out something new that I loved. We sat at the bar(no tables were available) and ordered food as well. The meatballs as the appetizer were delicious. I had the grilled cheese which was also very good. Maybe a little too much garlic on the fries, but that’s not the worst problem to have. After dinner we followed up with a cocktail while live music played. Very nice place with good food and drinks.

While down the road I searched for a nearby bar or pub I found this little quaint place with plenty of parking on the side of the building. The bars was pretty much filled up but we managed to find two seats at the end. We ordered a Salted Nut Roll which is an adult milkshake that had the perfect salty and sweet combination. I had two local beers from MN and sampled many more from the nice bartenders that served us drinks. The menu looked so good, but I was still full from a big lunch. So I just ordered some tempura batter cheese curds with ranch and spicy tomato curry sauce yum yum ! Also got some soup that is made with veal bones with beef and rice. So if your bar hoping and want to try some kick ass food and adult milkshakes get your buns to Ward 6 !

I like this neighborhood, it’s sort of up and coming. Ward 6 looks like a cute addition to this part of town. There’s plenty of parking on the side and back lot of the restaurant. My boyfriend asked me to bookmark this place. I’d never heard of it. I was saving it for a Sunday when I didn’t feel like making breakfast, and then that day came. We arrived around 11am. There wasn’t a wait, the place wasn’t empty, but there was ample seating. Our server was really friendly, she sat us quickly, brought menus, and took our Bloody Mary orders. Bloody Mary was bland, it seemed like it was missing the bloody mix. The cheese curd on it was good though. For breakfast we shared the eggs Benedict, Dutch baby, and breakfast poutine. The eggs Benedict was really good, I don’t remember what was in the hollandaise, but it was seasoned with something intense for a morning dish. Good intense. Dutch baby was also tasty, but neither of us are big sweets for breakfast people, so it wasn’t as popular at the eggs Benedict. The breakfast poutine was a dish I’m good with never eating again. It was salty and mushy, just wasn’t appealing to the eyes or palate. Service was great, eggs Benedict was a winner, everything else«so so.» It’s not a place I would go rushing back to.

After a long streak of work, work, and more work, Ward 6 was a good start to an overall awesome Sunday. For those who prefer hearty dishes in the morning, this place is a great addition to their list of brunch joints to visit, albeit with some reservations. Overall, Ward 6’s menu selection was an eclectic mix of regional dishes where the breakfast poutine was offered alongside with the beignet. My gal-pal and I shared both along with The Disaster. From the three dishes, the beignet was a confusing affair for me. While its texture was rather an amazing interplay between a crunchy exterior and a soft moist center, that golden dough just missed out on the sweetness that was ringing high on my list of expectations. Since I’ve never been to the South, I can’t vouch that I know how to critique this pastry in terms of authenticity. What I do know is that it didn’t fulfill my sweet taste buds to the fullest. The light sprinkle of the confectioner sugar might play well with the Jenny Craig crowd, but it sure as hell doesn’t sit well with me. The Disaster was a meh to me. Based on the description, I was hoping for a good showdown between an assortment of meat and veggies like when a tornado runs through an amazonian forest and a cow ranch. When dish actually arrived, the showdown was more like a let-down since it looked more like a good ol’ potatoes O’Brien with random lumps of sausage. I wouldn’t say the taste was awful since it was pretty decent, but I totally wasn’t blown away by it. Next, we got a north-side culinary dish, Poutine. This one got me hooked like what. I’ve been salivating for a chance to try this hearty heart-attack-worthy pursuit since I first heard of its glory, and it was well worth the wait. Ward 6 sure popped my poutine cherry with sense and style. Sure, the portion size wasn’t big, but the taste(and calories) packed within each bite was immense. Whoever was drunk enough to put cheese curds and gravies on hot fries sure deserves a hug from me since that ish was finger-licking good enough to earn it a fandom star from me.

Ward 6 has been on my bookmark list forever. We tried to eat there once for dinner but just couldn’t do the very long wait time and had to bounce to another place. But we had better luck last weekend when we stopped in for brunch. First of all, I kind of feel like this has not become known as a brunch spot yet, which makes it an awesome option with great food and much less of a wait than other nearby places in St. Paul. We walked right in and were seated. I started with a mimosa, which as far as mimosas go was really really good. The juice was fresh squeezed with pulp, and the drink was nice and fizzy. Hubby got a bloody mary, which was good. And the presence of one of those old-school milkshake machines on the counter really made me wonder about the evening cocktail selection. Brunch-wise, our food was good. I had the biscuits and gravy, which was really tasty. The gravy was good and full of sausage. The biscuits were good though they were a bit on the dense side(not so light and flaky) but still very savory and delicious. I honestly don’t remember what my husband ate. Coffee was very strong, in a good way. I loved that I could see employees grinding beans just prior to brewing. Yay. And service was fine. A good brunch option!

Oh damn, I never reviewed this place? Well I went here in October 2014 with Jenny A, Sam W, and Dita D, so I assume you were awaiting my input with bated breath since. The night was full of ups and downs, as my good friends have already iterated. Some ups: The beautiful bar. I am sure someone already covered the«getting wood over the wood» and other jokes of that matter, but yes, I appreciate an ornate, timeless, well-crafted furnishing. It’s hard to come by since the majority of my life has been vomited on by Ikea. Service was great. I really liked our waitress and I think she got a giggle or two out of me. The charcuterie was ok. I enjoy weird meats, but some of theirs seemed straight out of the Cub Foods deli baggy. This board was simple and straight-forward, good but not terribly memorable. My favorite dish of the night was the gnocchi with duck(I believe confit) with butternut squash and balsamic drizzle. A big disappointment of the night was the fatty melt. It’s sad that two good things could be messed up becoming one — grilled cheese and burger. But the patty itself was not very good, the grilled cheese was soggy, and there were no other complementary flavors in the burger(could really use a sauce!). I can’t decide if the poutine looked like cat food BEFORE or AFTER the cat pukes it up. I enjoyed the hot buttered rum but I did not enjoy the colon cleanse that followed, nor did my coworkers. Adieu.

Wow, what a disappointing night. Why, of all nights, did you not pull out ANY stops? Sam W., Dita D., Kara D. and I met up here so that they could experience the will of the inner fatty and order a burger surrounded by two grilled cheese sandwiches. Even for them, it was what you would expect it to taste like. which is a burger with grilled cheese. Nothing really beyond that. But, that was novelty. The disappointment was in almost everything else. Dita ordered the poutine which turned out to be a wad of mediocre fries with a gravy that looked similar chewed up Frisky’s dumped on top. The charcuterie was unimpressive and would never have had enough on it, if any of us had really cared for it. The duck was received the best, but the rest was basically left untouched. The brie plate was more like butter and as said by the others, unimpressive to anyone who actually enjoys brie. The worst of my experience, though, had to be the strange-ass grilled cheese sandwich I ordered. I’m okay with trying new takes on meals, but who the fuck let this one past the test kitchen? You can’t take a decent sandwich with real cheese and replace it with cream cheese mixed with goat poo. …For realz, though, I didn’t realize there was goat cheese in it when I ordered it. I thought it tasted a strange kind of awful. The jalapenos were very hot and thinking back on it, I should probably be happy that they burned out my taste buds. Well, regardless, the food for the night was mediocre. Kara, Dita and Sam were a riot to hang out with. no surprise there. I’d probably be more butt hurt, but my memories of the night are mainly of laughing along with friends.

I consider myself a proud St. Paul Apologist(Of the Twin Cities, I think it’s fair to say that St. Paul gets too little love) but I had not heard of this cool little Eastside joint until two weeks ago. We were actually hoping to go to Bar La Grassa for late night drinks, but balked at the multi-hour-long wait list. A fellow St. Paulite suggested Ward 6 and promised we wouldn’t be disappointed. We were not. This place is legit. The cocktail list is a thing of beauty– I want to shake the hand of whomever came up with many of these drinks. I tried the signature cocktail, an unholy mashup of St. Germain, lychee, lime juice, cilantro, ginger, vodka and chili(with jalapeño) and to my astonishment it was AMAZING. I need this cocktail in my life. Ward 6 also makes a Caipirinha, a Brazilian drink that I love that is extremely hard to find. This would be a spectacular spot for date night for those with an adventurous cocktail palate. My husband got the fatty melt(a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns? How could he not?) and it was delicious, although it was really hard to eat – it’s so tall that you literally can’t get your mouth around it. I had a delicious Rueben and we shared a Turkish appetizer with chèvre that I am in the process of trying to reproduce. The service was prompt and attentive, and I was gratified to watch the very polite and attentive owner calmly usher an unruly guest to the door. It’s nice for those in the service industry to know that the management has their back, and nice to see managers handling small crises with professionalism and aplomb. Really the only downside was the slightly pretentious and too-loud live music that made conversation a challenge. But we will definitely be back — no question. I hear they have trivia on Mondays!

Ward 6 is a truly great addition to the neighborhood it’s in. It’s hip, it looks great on the interior and the servers seem really cool and attentive. I just wish the food was up to par. I’ll break everything down into a quick list: — The Poutine: A huge resounding ‘meh’. The fries that were untouched by the gravy had a good texture – fluffy on the interior, slightly crispy – but they were otherwise just a soggy mess. I’ve never had a poutine with a weird(almost country) style gravy and with any luck I never will again. It’s unappealing both in terms of taste and aesthetics. Most of it went right back to the kitchen. — The Brie Plate: I don’t like brie. I think it tastes like shower mold smells and I don’t give a shit if that makes me unhip. The fig jam accompaniment tasted like the interior of a Fig Newton. I’m sure that, with their powers combined, they tasted like eating an old Fig Newton in a moldy apartment shower. I didn’t try them together so this is entirely based on educated speculation. — The Charcuterie: With very scant portions of each offering, it was one of those ‘grab an anemic portion to avoid being a jackass’ scenarios. Thankfully, none of them were that remarkable. I did like the duck… ruiuryuifhiuhf or whatever it was. The bison braunschweiger was crumbly by nature and tasted like poo. Everything else was just sort of hovered between ‘hmmmmeh’ and ‘hmmmblARGH’. — Fish & Chips; Woefully under seasoned and lying on a bed of unremarkable fries, the fish(albeit tender) was nothing short of ‘do not want’. I ate it because it was there and not repulsive. Jenny’s weird grilled cheese looked terrible and the phrase ‘spicy feet’ was thrown around in reference to its taste. I dodged the fuck out of that bullet. Overall, there wasn’t one thing on the table that I’d ever want to slide down my gullet again except for the hot buttered rum. That was the saving grace of the night as far as what went in my mouth… at dinner. *winky winky, raise that pinky* Anyway, I’m not big on the whole sandwich scene(which makes up a good part of their menu) or the burger with brie/jam/lingonberries/pickled chicken livers/platypus pâté/Friskies reduction sauce/other weird shit scene, so I’m SOL here. I don’t think I need to return, but that’s cool. I wish Ward 6 the best of luck and I hope it does well; this square peg just doesn’t fit into their round hole.
