Maplewood Bakery

I was a little disappointed as I drove up to this bakery to check out their donuts. It looks dumpy from the outside and is connected to a liquor store. I was further disappointed when I looked in the window and saw no tables or chairs.
My daughter and I went in anyway. When I asked one of the ladies behind the the counter if they had a particularly special donut or one that was more popular than others, she just sort of shrugged her shoulders and muttered, «people just buy everything.» So I was disappointed further with that conversation.
They have some filled donuts that are filled by simply slicing them in the middle putting in filling and putting it back together. I think this is probably a good way to do it, and it let’s them put more filling in. My daughter ordered a custard bismarck type thing, and she said it was fine. (she isn’t the best food reviewer). I ordered a long john type thing filled with vanilla cream with chocolate frosting and a folded type thing filled with cherry. The folded thing was unremarkable, I wish I didn’t order it. The long john was excellent and I was glad I ordered it. Since they claim no specialty, I’m going to declare their vanilla cream filled long john with chocolate frosting their signature donut. I could go for another right now.
I didn’t think this place was anything special. But at about 8:30 on a saturday morning there was a rather steady stream of people coming and going.
Go for that long john!

Maplewood Bakery made a beautiful cake for my wedding in November. This place is the real deal! The cake was beautifully decorated and tasted awesome! I loved working with the bakery as well.
Other thank cakes, the Maplewood Bakery has an amazing selection of dinner rolls, donuts, bread, cookies, and bars. This is truly a neighborhood joint that has been baking fresh stuff for years at affordable prices.
I would recommend this excellent bakery to anyone that wants to have freshly baked products at affordable prices. They also do custom orders for holidays, birthdays etc. This place is a gem and not to be missed!

Awesome bakery items and very friendly staff! So nice to be able to find places like this are around. Prices are good and also has a good selection.

This is THE BEST BAKERY around. Their cakes, with the lemon icing in between the layers is so good. We have ordered many cakes. I love their bread and rolls, and actually everything they have.

The neighborhood bakery is becoming extinct. Two of my kids have worked here. It is the real deal. I especially enjoy their apple fritters and their caramel pecan rolls.
