After spending the last 7 months in Afghanistan I thought going to a strip club would be a good idea. Now I’ve been to the Lamp Lighter before so I pretty much knew what I’d be getting. Although, the Lamp Lighter is not know for being classy, you pretty much pay for what you get. After sitting down, I was approached rather quickly by a woman who wanted to give a lap dance. Due to the fact it has been so long that I had seen a naked woman I agreed. Unfortunately, the woman was easily the ugliest one there. And that is saying something for a place like the Lamplighter. She clearly had just had a child. Seeing that she had stretch marks on her ass, boobs, legs. She never showed off her stomach, but one could only imagine the disaster if she had. She started the lap dance mid song, so I didn’t even get a full song out of the deal. The only positive thing that I can say is that pretty much the entire lap dance she was grabbing my junk on the outside of my pants. When the lap dance ended I asked her how much and she said $ 20. So I handed her a $ 20. When I got back to my table my buddy told me that the lap dances are only $ 10. So I got scammed by the ugliest girl at one of the seediest strip clubs in the Twin Cities.

My family has lived in Roseville, MN for the past 15 years and the Lamplighter Lounge on Rice St. has always been a place of much allure and mystery. Once I finally turned 21 I had to see what was kept behind those decrepit, black doors. I have now moved to NYC, but on my most recent trip back to Minnesota I felt that I should finally pay a visit to this nearly forgotten establishment. I rounded up two of my most non-judgmental friends to join me on my rite of passage. Before I divulge into the interior of the business, it’d be best to explain the outside of the gentlemen’s club. It is located in a tiny strip mall in a working class neighborhood of Saint Paul; situated next to a nail salon, laundry mat, and thrift store. Expecting the glitz and glam of a downtown establishment is the biggest mistake people will make. Don’t judge a place based on unfair comparisons, but appreciate it for its unique addition to a rather drear neighborhood. Once inside, you’ll notice the laid back atmosphere of the Lamplighter Lounge. Simple décor, simple lights, simple seating, friendly bar, and inexpensive food. Having a full bar in a Minnesota strip club is reward enough, especially when it is a fully nude one. I’d suspect the only drawback for some would be the glass encasement in which the dancers work. We visited on a Friday afternoon, during what may have been happy hour since our drinks were 2 for the price of 1. No cover. I ordered a gin and tonic(strong), and only spent 5 dollars(including tip). For table food we ordered three orders of tacos and french fries. Unless we missed out on some special, we got all of that for only six dollars. Now for the girls. I must mention that I am not at all enamored by strippers. I merely enjoy the atmosphere of such places, because they feel so forbidden. The girls were a multi-cultural group with a few grandiose personalities and outfits to match. Three girls in particular really caught our attention, and the other six or seven were average or below — but that’s just a matter of opinion. None of us received dances, etc. Albeit, many men were taking our place instead. My only qualm with the place would probably be its music selection, which ranged from top 40 hits from yesteryear to just plain awkward country tunes. All in all, the Lamplighter Lounge is a nice place to relax, have a snack, and enjoy a drink with friends in the midst of perpetual entertainment. If you’re coming for the girls, be forewarned that you will not leave impressed, but you will see a nice bunch who are there to provide a service. So respect the Lamplighter Lounge, and their girls for that.

I can only assume that due to the down economy, that there is a larger pool of attactive women who have decided to get into stripping lately. The quality of this strip joint has improved greatly in the past couple of years. It’s still not a classy place, but for what I look for in a strip club, this may be one of the best places in the Twin Cities. First, they serve booze, prices have gone down, it costs no more than a bar downtown. Second, fully nude. Although there is a bit of a glare off the plexi glass, particulaly noticable on non-white women. Third, still no cover on week nights, but $ 5 Th-Sa. Fourth, decent looking ladies with a ghetto streak to them. All in all, I’ll agree to stop hating on the Limp Lifter.

I don’t normally frequent gentleman’s clubs BUT… This place isn’t so bad. Drinks may not be all that clean but they sure are cheap. I always wonder if the ladies get a discount at the nail shop next door. Or if the nail place has some system of cleaning their dollar bills. Don’t hate on the Limp Lifter!
