J & J Fish & Chicken

I got a gyro and fries for 6.50. It was good, the fries especially. The price was great and the food was good. Nothing to complain about. Will try this place again.

Don’t come here for the atmosphere, come here for the fish, the wings, and the fries. Their fries and wings are seasoned with a great blend that is absolutely delicious. As I said before, the inside of the restaurant isn’t the best for atmosphere, but I highly recommend take out, because this food is too good to pass up.

Bad: rising prices and smaller portions…
Good: pick and to go service are great, food is fine, no complaints here.

By far, the worst place I’ve ever purchased food from.
I had seen this place for a while and been interested in trying it out. Who doesn’t like some good fish and chicken? I went in and should have listened to my instincts. From the moment I entered I could see that dining in wasn’t a pleasant option. The booths were dirty and the whole place has a dingy feel to it. The kid working behind the counter seemed to be having a bad night as he cursed to himself under his breath as we watched him cooking out food. When I got the food in the car it didn’t smell good. I got it home and put it out on the table for my family to eat. The catfish tasted like they had deep fried a piece of cardboard. The wings tasted old. The fried okra was just as gross. I bagged it all up after we all agreed we would rather go hungry than eat this food. I drove back 5 miles to return it. They couldn’t believe someone would complain and expect a refund. I had to talk on the phone to a manager who eventually told the guy behind the counter to give me my money back but charge me for what we had eaten! 4 chicken wings which we hadn’t even finished. ish ish ish. Stay away.

The fried catfish is soooo good! Reminds me of back home in the Bayou area of Texas. Great seasoning and crisp! Will definitely go hear again.

I’ve been driving past this place for years, always curious, but never stopped because it looks a little sketchy and the neighborhood has that «white castle on lake street 1am feel to it». I finally stopped by for lunch and will be coming back soon. Found the Best Fries in the the Twin Cities there — taste like hand cut and with a super thin crisp shell, not sure how they do that. The fish I tried was good, fried food but not greasy. Menu has lots of fish/​seafood choices, oysters, sweet potato pie, okra, GIZZARDS too (not my thang)! Tell them «White Guy» sent ya — thats what they called me when my order came up!

Was it healthy? No. That’s why I went here. Did it hit the spot? Yes. That’s also why I went here.
I haven’t had this good of chicken since I was in the south (Memphis). Amazing breading, reminds you of how a cook out should be. The place smells of grease and deep fried foods but the key to this place is all the little treats that you would never expect a place like this to have (see other reviews).
Prices can’t be beat. I shall be back.

Exactly what it should be. Fried fish & chicken. Great wings. Pretty good gyros for the price. I live two blocks away and JJ’s is a frequent stop.

A decent small chain restaurant serving deep fried fish and chicken (go figure). There are a few oddities for a fish and chicken place, like their macaroni bites and pretty good cheesecakes. They also have all the 1 liter soda pop choices you could imagine, you’ll just have to find out for yourself what I’m talking about.
Not the best place to go with families or to sit down and enjoy a meal (let’s just say the owners set up their deep fryers and never really paid attention to the dining-​in experience). And don’t expect small talk conversation with the staff, they are willing to serve you but they pretty much keep to themselves
So if you’re craving deep fried salty food for a pretty cheap buck – you know you do – pick up the phone and call or stop in and take out.
Recommendation: Walleye or catfish… yummmm
