Awhile ago a friend of mine came to town and asked if the ‘Twin Cities’ had any good drum shops. I responded; «We have THEE Drum Shoppe» So I took them to «Ellis» You can not believe what you will find there a 60s Trixon kit with an EGG Shaped Kick Drum as well as Vox Drums. I once saw The Monkees and Boyce & Hart Drummer the Late Billy Lewis play a similar kit on a TV show in 1968 Tim has built a great shop and a great line of signature drums !!! I strongly recommend you check it out just to see these extremely rare drum kits.

The best part about Ellis Drum Shop is that the staff are drummers and they know their trade. They have a large selection of gear and they perform drum repairs with great care. The service is friendly and the prices are fair. I love playing the drums but I really have no idea about equipment and tuning. That’s why I leave that stuff up to the professionals at Ellis.

Awesome, fantastic, stupendous!!! You can basically get any drum, any cymbal, any pedal, any hardware, any cases, any drumsticks, and any additional percussion you could ever want in this place. They carry all the top brands such as: Pearl, Gretsch, Tama, Mapex, Sonor, Ludwig, DW, Pacific, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Meinl, Remo, Evans, Easton, Vater, Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Pork Pie, and on, and on, and on. On top of all this, and their very competitive prices(I quit shopping at Guitar Center in ’02 because of Ellis) Owner Tim Ellis has a custom drum shop right in back of the St. Paul store. That’s right, Tim Ellis builds Ellis Custom Drums. Any size, any finish, any wood, any lugs, etc. Don’t be surprised to see some big name players like Mike Portnoy(Dream Theater) or Terry Bozzio(Frank Zappa) doing some in-store drum clinics. This place is just sick! Not only the best in the Twin Cities’, but possibly the best in the entire midwest. For drums and percussion, shop Ellis. Ask for Tim. He’s cool as hell.

Ellis is really a great store. Great gear, excellent staff and repair guys. The selection never seems to slip and prices are pretty good. Lessons are offered. This review really only is referencing the St. Paul location because as far as the Richfield store is concerned, they still have some work to do to make it up to par with it’s older, more handsome, and, talented brother.
