Ever set out to buy something but you don’t quite know what you want but you know better what you don’t want? The clerk at Bibelot(it’s not a Bible store as some have once thought) understood my vagueness and led me around to certain categories and there like a light shining through the clouds saying«this is it» I found exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for. If this review makes sense to you then you’ll probably be a fit-in at Bibelot. In my favorite neighborhood of shops this is a compact store that has more items per sq inch than many other of the declining variety stores. I suspect this small chain of shops(Como Ave is the best of the bunch) will be around for years to come.

If I could describe Bibelot in one word, it would be adorable. My friend and I had breakfast in the area. After we were done, she recommended that we go to this store because, in her words, «it’s super cute.» She was right about that. We walk in and there are plenty of novelty items and Minnesota-themed items. As a Minnesotan who had to leave the great state, I was thrilled. I ended up getting a Minnesota home tee. This store offers a variety of gift items. If you’re looking for a cute, hard-to-find gift, I imagine this would be a good place for it. In my opinion, the only down side is that it’s expensive. I ended up finding the exact same shirt I bought online for ~20% cheaper. But I guess ordering it online wouldn’t have provided me with the same instant gratification as buying it in the store.

Great little store! Never fails I’m able to find unique gifts for anyone… or me each time I visit.

This is my GOTO place to buy a gift for anyone.(Especially if that anyone is a child or female– I will admit, it’s trickier to buy men presents here– but it can be done!) I love their eclectic selection, huge mix of trendy and obscure, big brands and tiny, made-in-China-stuff and local artistry. I like their card selection as well, they seem to have a card for every possible occasion and a large number of blank ones to fill in the gaps. They«gift wrap» in a classy looking simple cardboard box with tissue paper and brightly colored ribbon for free, and it really looks nice enough to give just like that, no extra paper wrapping needed. This is the place to go if you want to be the friend that gives fun, different gifts that aren’t on anybody’s registry but they will treasure for years. Hint– buy EVERY newborn you come in contact with a BunniesByTheBay large size Bunny. It’s a combination stuffed animal/small blankie and babies LOVE it. It’s the perfect comfort object!

I like Bibelot in general, so that’s where these three stars come from. Bibelot doesn’t differ much from the other Bibelots(gifts, stationary, funny kitchen stuff, candles, coasters made out of old magazines, etc.). The REWEAR section of this place, however, is pretty meh. REWEAR is a secondhand clothing shop upstairs, but it’s not actually a separate shop as far as I can tell. The only thing I tried on was this cool looking wool jacket from Iceland that seemed to actually be vintage. Most everything else seemed newer, but not«current,» if you know what I mean. It’s easy to see that I am not their target demographic here(and I don’t necessarily hold that against them). The stock is intended for an older woman, but it was overpriced and poorly selected. I mean, you can buy a new cardigan on clearance from the Gap for less than the used $ 25 version here. To recap, Bibelot — good, REWEAR — not so much.

I always have to stop in here to check out what cute stuff they have. Definitely makes this little corner of St. Anthony a great place to while away some time after binging at Lady Elegant’s. The staff here is always super nice and lets us sniff/poke/manhandle all the merchandise without batting an eyelash. Kitschy Minnesota gear, sassy office supplies, kitchen gadget, and pretty much anything you can think of will be at your fingertips. I want to go back and get a MN potholder they had… super funny and totally the kind of shop you feel good buying stuff at. Not to be missed for gifts, either.
