I was skeptical at first of spending money on premarital counseling, but am so glad we did. From the moment you meet Rev. Tomkin you sense that he’s genuinely interested in getting to know you. To us it felt like we were talking to a best friend we’ve known for years. Over the span of two sessions Rev. Tomkin provides you with a foundation to make your marriage a life-long success. The location where we met(University Club) is such a relaxing and historic setting that it put any anxiety of discussing such a personal topic at ease. It really is one of the nicest settings in Saint Paul. Regardless if you’ve been together for a few months or many years, I think every couple who plans on spending their lives together should consider premarital counseling with Rev. Tomkin. You’ll leave each session learning something new about your partner and feeling closer and more connected than ever. Besides getting engaged it’s been one of our highlights of 2015!

My fiancé and I knew we wanted more than a JP but were not interested in getting married in a church. After a few disappointing interviews with other officiants, we thankfully came across Rev. Tomkin. Rev. Tomkin took the time to truly understand who we were not only as individuals, but as a couple. Together, all 3 of us focused on our relationship and strengthening our communication. Rev. Tomkin has helped us build a foundation for a strong marriage — not just a nice wedding. We opted to participate in the pre-marriage couples counseling and the process was beautifully eye-opening. I now know how my husband interprets my actions and words. We can successfully identify points of miss communication and quickly rectify the situation. I would suggest Rev. Tomkin and his counseling for any couple looking to have a strong connection, spiritual influence, and the opportunity to grow.

After careful consideration and a few interviews, my fiancé and I chose Rev Tomkin Coleman to officiate our wedding. We are not religious(or even spiritual… though what that actually means is rather vague to me, but I digress) but we were very pleased with the Rev. He is kind, interested, and very charismatic. When he mentioned that he does premarital counseling, we were very interested in participating. Any tools to make our relationship stronger are very welcome. We met with him twice at the University Club in St Paul, which is a beautiful old building with lots of street parking available. The sessions lasted an hour or two, depending on how much my fiancé and I wanted to talk about ourselves… which usually trended toward the two hour range. No judgment! The Rev provided us with lots of useful insight and tools to try. In fact, we were using a few of his recommendations shortly after the first session and, guess what — they work! The sessions brought up a lot of topics that my fiancé and I continue to discuss well after we meet with the Rev — all of which are interesting and helpful in improving our relationship and helping us to understand one another. We were given«homework» that consisted of online quizzes. The quizzes were very accurate in determining how my fiancé and I are similar and different and were quite interesting to review during our sessions. Overall, the counseling helped us understand ourselves and each other better and I highly recommend to anyone who is heading down the aisle.
