Love the calamari! On a quiet Tuesday night, Thanh Do is only slightly reminiscent of Thom Pham’s other ventures like the hip and trendy Azia, Wondrous Azian Kitchen, and Temple. But we enjoyed the more humble dark décor and laid back atmosphere of a neighborhood food joint. No naked girl sushi here! For appetizer, we ordered calamari. Our waitress brought it out without any dipping sauce and forgot the soy sauce we asked for. But it was just as well because the calamari did not need it. It had been tossed with a lightly stir fried scallion onions, pineapple, green peppers and jalapenos which gave sweetness and a little heat. The tempura batter was light and crisp. While I try to avoid superlatives, this might be my favorite calamari ever. I had the soft shell crab for an entrée. The panko breading was lightly applied and fried. Very good, not greasy at all. They were somewhat stingy on the slaw for an entrée and the Thai chili aioli it was tossed in was somewhat blah. I might have enjoyed the slaw more with a vinaigrette and let the acid balance the deep fried crab. Hubby had the kung pao chicken which could have been called onion chicken. At first, we thought she brought out an order of fun noodles. Onions which was the last ingredient on the menu description covered the dish. Overuse of strong filler ingredients like onion, celery and carrots at Asian restaurants drive me crazy because they can ruin an otherwise good dish. But honestly, the overuse of any filler ingredients is obnoxious at a restaurant. Its not what you ordered and not what you want to eat. Service was great. The waitress was friendly and made some recommendations and pointed out signature dishes. Everything came out timely, with a suitable lag between appetizer and entrée. Our drinks was replenished when needed. At first glance, Thanh Do’s menu seems more traditionally Asian with dishes like pad thai, mongolian beef, phở, and laab. But then there’s fun Minnesotan twists like cranberry curry and walleye. So I look forward to having the seabass next and who knows maybe Thom Pham will do a hot dish or pot pie Azian style.

I’ve been here a few times since my last review, and I can’t even remember why I gave them only two stars. The food is fresh and fun. Recently, I was at another restaurant that had awful black bean chicken, and I thought to myself, «Wow, this isn’t even close to the black bean chicken at Thanh Do.» So there you have it. I hereby abscond my silly two star review. Also, unlike Wok in the Park(which I still like better) Thanh Do is open on Sunday.

The place can be hit and miss for food. The various beef dishes are good, the cranberry cream cheese puffs are great. The egg rolls in my opinion anyway are a must-miss, the egg fu yung is watery and disappointing. The chicken fried rice however is some of the best in town, very fresh and clean tasting. Some big pluses here are the teas, the daily happy hour, and the really calm, gracious atmosphere. Service is always good. I would like to rate it more highly, but the inconsistent food quality is a big factor here. Gather a table around for happy hour, load up on the apps and fried rice type items though and you will be happy. The seating in between the side booths and tables are particularly crowd friendly.

Ate again at Thanh Do — great food as usual, and the waiter was also great. My wife had the Basil Supreme and I had the Mongolian beef. We tried the big bowl of Thai Hot and Sour soup as an appetizer and it was fabulous! The cranberry won tons are to die for and there are other tasty appetizers, as well. One of the best Thai restaurants in the city — you gotta try it!

Been here on many occasions for lunch and dinner. The food is very tasty! The service is not the best as they are a little slow to take orders(even when not busy) and the staff chat a lot with each other. But aside from that I’ve always had good experience here. This is my go to Thai place in town!

We went here for lunch. Thanh Do offers a lunch menu which was worth every penny. It includes a soup, appetizer and entrée. I had the chicken coconut curry(it has a different name), egg drop soup and spring rolls. All of it was delish! They also have very good teas but they are more on the spendy side.

I stopped in on my way home today sat down at the bar and ordered food to go. The bartender was friendly and attentive, I ordered food to go and had a cold Stella, my food was ready in less than 20 minutes. I ordered fresh spring rolls that were perfect! Also ordered a side of asparagus that were also cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Thank you my wife was very happy when I got home, I will stop in again soon. Satisfied customer.

Beautiful place, not the usual hole in the wall I enjoy. All I needed was a spring roll fix. Here they come with shredded chicken instead of pork. They were good. They chicken was a bit dry. And at $ 7 this app was higher than I’m used to paying.

They were very friendly and the food was good. My husband had Ramen which he really liked, my brother had ribs, which where pretty impressive, I had lo mein which was good, my tastebuds weren’t bursting, but I was trying to order kid friendly so I could share with my toddler who actually likes everything. My primary complaint is my brother’s girlfriend just ordered noodles with veggies & tofu, nothing out of the ordinary & it came at least 10min after the rest of our food, possibly 15. I really want to like this place, but that was a little ridiculous. Also, the guys ordered hot sake & it was initially served in a wine glass; round 2 came in a craft. I still did like the food & will probably return because my toddler liked it.

Went for the first time with friends. Waiter was very slow. Cranberry wontons were different and surprisingly good. I had the lemongrass wok with extra veggies and ordered brown rice. They brought me white rice and even though I asked for brown it never came. Thankfully they didn’t charge me for it. The stir fry was good but had a sweet aftertaste which wasn’t very good. In short, it was ok. I didn’t send it back but I wouldn’t order it again. After our meal it took the waiter forever to check back in so we could order dessert, which again was just ok.

Once great, but is no more. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Thanh Do, an awful experience kept us away. We were served raw chicken, twice in the same meal and our parties food came out 45 minutes apart. However, I heard things had turned around so we wanted to give the neighborhood spot another try. They won’t be getting a third chance. First, the menu was really difficult to read, it was overwhelming and the style of it made it rather hard to navigate. I also found it odd that their specials were Mediterranean, they literally had grilled lamb chops with mint jelly on the menu at an Asian restaurant. Our food was fine flavor wise. The spring rolls had decent flavor but were packed over half full with noodles, so the sauce is all that brought flavor to it. The pad thai tasted good, but the texture was slimy and unpleasant. To top it all off, each item on the menu seemed to be a few dollars over priced. Overall this was a huge let down, i’ll continue taking my business across the street to Wok in the Park.

Great food, Good delivery. They have nice gluten free options and plenty of vegetarian options. I still prefer Wok in the Park in comparison, but since these guys deliver we eat from them often. Service in the restaurant is fair and the ambience nice.

Very delicious egg rolls, potstickers and won tons. A bit spicy for the kids, but the waiter helped us find something more palatable for them and delivered the new food in a reasonable amount of time.

Absolutely delicious Thai and Vietnamese. I come here every time I come home to visit family and absolutely love it. Food is a little overpriced but the portions are huge and I’ll definitely keep coming back.

Inconsistent hits and misses. Worth eating at if you live reasonably nearby AND you have a groupon. Some dishes are okay… like the pan friend potstickers(nothing compelling, a little bit on the doughy side). The eggrolls used to be my favorite but the last year or so, they do not taste the same? The satay beef is inconsistent. I’ve had it twice and it was delicious, melts in your mouth beef. I’ve also had it where it was really under cooked an meh. One of our favorite dishes there used to be the sea bass but the preparation has changed and we have been reluctant to try the new preparation. We like the beef with lemon grass and that is generally quite good — although a LOT of onions. Tonight we tried the Thai curry with tofu. Flavor was excellent. Strange thing is that the tofu(fried) was lukewarm while the rest of the dish was(temperature) hot and fresh. It was really strange. We asked for it to be grilled a little longer and it come back out the second time with steam but still, some of the tofu remained lukewarm while some pieces were okay. Puzzling. Service is attentive but not annoying and to the server’s credit, he did what he could to make the meal meet our expectations. So with a groupon, definitely worth another try.

Before 2012 or 2013 this place became busy all the the time but now, it die down because the food. The fired rice like if they just use food dye. Lo mein noodles taste nothing and the white rice was cool and hardened. But I still get the pai Thai which is good

Updating my review: I’ve been a few times since October and there has been a steady decline. I went on 1÷31÷2016 and was greeted by a hostess who mumbled incoherently, left us waiting for 10 minutes, when asked if there was a booth, she disappeared into the kitchen for a few minutes. Just bizarre. We were finally seated and heard the hostess say something about how busy they were, though nearly every table was open. We waited 15 minutes and no one came to bring water, take orders. There were several favorite menu items that had been removed. Since we hadn’t even gotten waters, we actually got up and left. On our way out, the hostess said«thank you» as if we had enjoyed a great meal. Again, just bizarre. 10/26/2015 I happened upon this restaurant after my first visit to Ax Man next door. I was so impressed with the food(spring rolls, potstickers, wonton soup)! Ingredients were fresh and the food was full of flavor. We were the only people seated outside and we got forgotten a couple of times, but other than that, no complaints. I have been on the hunt for decent Asian food, and this it!

Bow tie pasta is my favorite thing on the menu. You wouldn’t think that from a Thai place but put some trust in me. It’s also a staff favorite. The egg rolls are incredible. And don’t forget they have a full bar. Ginger martini and other specialty cocktails are the way to go.

Udon noodles were salty, flavor wasn’t anywhere close to authentic, tasted like it came from a can. Phở was good but over priced for the amount of noodles in the bowl. Service was good water was consistently full. Nothing exceptional to write about though. Place wasn’t busy by any means on Sunday evening.

I need to disclaim that we are long time Than Do fans. We continue to love this place. I love the clean complex flavors of the curries. I love the unusual and complexly flavored stir fries(particularly Mongolian Beef). The Papaya salad tastes like what we had in Thailand. The egg rolls are just about the best in town, and the calamari is surprisingly tasty for a usually boring dish. I love their soups and last night fell in love with the Cod with Wasabi rice. Add in new décor and this place continues to be one of my favorite spots in town for a nice but relatively cheap meal. Try it

This place is so close that I love to have takeout since I can walk over and pick it up. The portions are huge and there is always leftovers which are great. I have brought friends there over the years and they all loved the food. Outdoor seating is great on beautiful days.

It was our second time here. Awful ramen. DONOTGET Their coconutshrimp is just plain shrimp eggroll. Not worth its price. Pad thai was average. Generous serving size, but expensive for it’s quality. But their service was amazing. Food quality was disappointing.

Never again… I frequently would get Thanh Do for take out after work. I had noticed the quality declining the last couple of times, but today was it for me. The calamari was almost raw, and the lo mein noodles and shrimp were seriously undercooked. I actually feared I would get ill if I ate it. I called the manager who offered to comp me a meal. No thanks. I’d rather not risk getting sick. Clean it up folks.

My husband and I love this place, you just have to order the right thing what suits best to your taste. I love the fresh spring rolls. I like the way they can do one of chicken and one of shrimp if you ask them too. It’s super crunchy and fresh. One of our favourite dish’s is the lemongrass, really nice flavour to it.(Too many onions) The supper fun noodles were fun and they made it super hot for us just like how we wanted. A little chewy but a different type of noodle. Get a groupon and try this place if it’s your first time. I recommend it!

We got take out here recently and I have to say the experience was rather disappointing. I tried the cranberry cream cheese wontons and the color was off-putting and it tasted like old oil was used to fry it. I also tried a curry dish there and the color was teal. Gross! I don’t think we’ll be back.

This isn’t the best Thai in the Cities, but it does deliver and it does have some great cranberry versions of all the standards. The cranberry puffs were a little bit of cranberry and cream cheese deep-fried heaven. I had my standard chicken pad thai, which was perfectly fine. I tried some of the cranberry curry, and I think I’ll just go ahead and say get any of the cranberry-mixed items. Beware the very, very large portions, though. One dish is enough for two, for sure.

We recently stopped at our old time favorite, Than-Do for late night happy hour after a night at the theater(special prices 9pm — close). We remembered they had late specials but had forgotten just what a good deal these prices are! We ordered all our favorite apps and each were $ 2.50 off regular prices. The Cranberry Cream Cheese Puffs are an all time favorite house specialty with their tart filling and strong green onion flavor($ 4.50 on HH). Than-Do has my favorite egg rolls of any restaurant in town and they’re served with this bomb oil dip(a whopping $ 3.50 on HH). The Fresh Spring rolls filled with shredded chicken and shrimp and served cold are amazing with the peanut hoisin dipping sauce(also $ 3.50 on HH). I’ll not forget this deal and will be back to take advantage of these tasty deals!

Pretty awesome experience. Visited over the weekend with my family to use the Groupon I had purchased. It’s located in a strip mall, but don’t let that deter you. Our server described the menu as Thai, Vietnamese, Singapore, Japanese, Chinese, Asian-Fusion with a touch of the Midwest(Cranberry & Walleye are featured on the menu). Woah, ok. What does that mean exactly? It means you’ll find the traditional dishes from these countries with a twist. We ordered the Potstickers to share and for entrees we tried the: Short Ribs, Walleye, Pad Thai & Basil Pad Noodle Stir Fry. The walleye’s jalapeño basil cream sauce was to die for. My Pad Thai was perfectly spiced, but it wasn’t the best Pad Thai I’ve had in town(I’d stick to Chang Mai Thai for that). We ordered the ‘Jenna Jameson Style’ Martini. The server asked how it was & my boyfriend mentioned he wasn’t totally crazy about it, the server brought him a different cocktail to try, free of charge. When the server found out we were celebrating a birthday, he poured a split of Rosé Champagne for my mom. A pretty sweet touch to end the meal. The portions are big, so plan to bring some food home. I’d recommend visiting and checking this place out.

Portions are too huge, confused lay out, ok cocktails and ok Chinese food, fried rice and peanut chicken stood out, good service
