These precious brothers don’t need my review… this really is a must stop in Napa Valley! Living in Napa for 30 years, they are one of oldest and greatest places! Hands down best Port anywhere! Soooo much fun talking with John and Jeff! Thx, guys! I’ll be back and keep sending you customers!

So as I was driving my mom through Napa Valley, my girlfriend texted, «Hey, if you run across a nice dessert wine…» A few miles later we passed the only sign we saw all day for port, so we pulled in to Prager Port Works. Super glad we did! We left with three of their best bottles, worth every penny. The tasting rooms are totally uinque, with every wall covered in thousands of pieces of paper currency donated by visitors over 27 years. Where else are you going to see a 1 trillion dollar note from Zimbabwe? Not joking, I’ll upload a photo. We also stopped by Beringer Vineyards earlier in the day. It’s probably the biggest wine tasting spot in Napa Valley, at the complete opposite end of the spectrum from this place. Beringer is elegant, exquisite, palatial, historical, commercial and staffed by employees. Prager is small, funky, rustic, cozy and staffed by the winemakers themselves. They will talk to you about their process and product and sell you some fantastic port. They only produce 400 – 600 cases of each variety per year, so they are exclusively direct-to-consumer and they treat you right.

Fantastic port selection. Call and make an appointment or just stop by for a very personal tasting in a cozy room just of the room of aging barrels. We may have just be lucky, and there at the right time, but we also got an additional tasting direct from a barrel of a port not yet available. They also have a port club where you get a selection of ports shipped to you twice a year. Will be back next time we’re in Napa!

Tip, this is one of the only places in the valley you will find a cigar for purchase! If you have any affirmation for port at all, do yourself a favor and mark this spot on your list to stop by. The Blonde Tawny white port is heaven. Pair with the house made pecans and it’s even better. The 10 year Tawny Cab was my second favorite, but the star of the show was the 20 year old dessert Riesling. Not quite high enough alcohol content to be labeled a port, but the same flavor profile. Put your dollar bill on the wall and find it next year.
