Love this place. It’s got a beautiful shady patio area surrounded by flowers. The service is quick and very friendly. We love the spinach salad, the baked potato soup, and the chicken salad is delicious. The atmosphere is so quaint and the perfect place to eat and visit in historical St Charles, MO.

Been here a few times and food has always been excellent. On this occasion I arrived shortly after opening time with family. We were seated right when we walked into the outdoor area as the staff was lighting the fire places. The waitress that day seemed rushed and unfriendly towards us at the beginning,(even a bit snappy) but slowed down near the end and seemed much more hospitable. I think she was just trying to get herself in the right mind set for the day. Me and my family are a picky bunch and had a lot of questions as well as some meal modifications. I even requested a change in my meal AFTER I had ordered it because I had realized the issue late. Luckily they were still able to adjust it and everyone’s food was just as requested. In total it was a nice dining experience.

I had the house beef with the hearts of palm salad. My wife had ham and cheese with squash soup. It was all decent. Not great. Not bad. It just didn’t make an impression.

We have been fans since they were in their other location, down the street. I love to eat outside, and they have a lovely patio. The baked potato soup is really good, even recommended by other restaurants’ staff. There are several good salad and sandwich options. Wait time can be a bit long at times, and sometimes one of the waitresses is a bit short-tempered, but all in all, we love it, and go whenever we visit St. Charles.

It was our first time to visit Historic St. Charles. We asked several of the merchants who they would recommend for lunch. Magpie’s seemed to be the consensus, so we tried it. The seating process was a little confusing for the novice. We finally seated ourselves on the patio and were greeted quickly by our server. We ordered the Mediterranean Salad and veggie wrap/salad combo. The food was delicious, however, our server mysteriously disappeared after our food arrived, forcing us to wave down another for our bill 30 minutes later. One surprise perk was that a small jazz band arrived shortly after we were seated. The young group were really talented and accomplished musicians. Thoroughly enjoyed!

The artichoke butter was FANtastic, but the bread served with it didn’t come warm. The artichoke and Brie quiche was a bit soggy and also somewhat bland. The spinach salad was well portioned and fresh. The server could have checked back with us more often and the wait for another drink during the meal was long, despite the rainy evening making it less busy. A handwritten check seemed more dated than quaint. The live music and staff were pleasant overall.

My family went to Magpie’s 05÷03÷15 with a party of 8. We understood there would be a wait when they told us it would be 15 minutes. We got sat about 20 minutes later which was fine, but did not see a server until about 15 minutes after we were sat. It was hot out and we were all extremely thirsty, we eventually got drinks from a completely different server and ordered our food. The food was good but was also brought out by a completely different server. Refills were out of the question, with 3 people in our party eating the food without a drink. We had to hunt down the server for drinks. We were there for 2 hours and I have never had such horrible service. I am a server and know it can be hard some times but there was no excuse for these unapologetic lazy workers and the service they gave. We will not be returning.

I’ve been here more times than I can count. This spot fills up fast around lunch time, and can be a little longer than your usual service when they’re busy, but it’s well worth it. The wait staff is always polite, and quick to take care of any issue, which has only happened once in all the times I’ve been there. Consistently the best French Dip in town.

My standard«bad» review is a 3 star rating, so it should say something that I’m giving this a 1 star. We are consistently 20−30% tippers, pained me to tell my husband to leave no tip, he still gave 10% out of courtesy. I could go on with so many details, but the short version is that we ordered a bowl of soup and a chicken salad sandwich and it took over an hour to arrive. The potato soup was so salty to the point of being inedible. We watched other tables be seated after us, order, and have their food arrive(including a table that also only requested soup and sandwich) eat, pay & leave, while we sat there. When I tried to ask our waitress about our order, I’d only opened my mouth and before saying anything she interrupted with, «the kitchen is really backed up» and continued on her way. I only attempted to flag her down after seeing the table next to us, who sat down at least 20 minutes after us, receive a similar order while we still sat waiting. The wait was ridiculous. The food was sub par. Multiple staff members were short & rude on multiple occasions. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If I’d been alone I probably would have gotten up and left, but my extremely polite & patient husband stuck it out. The fact that he paid the bill and tipped for this ridiculous experience is a testament to his character, and not the restaurant.

Wife and I are lunch at MagPies yesterday on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in St. Charles. MagPies has one of the best outdoor seating areas, with a view right down Main Street. The Spinach salad had a special with French dressing and pears that was very good. Potato soup and the So Gouda were just right on a fall day. All in all a solid lunch café.

Wow, what a fun find! I had the So Gouda sandwich(w/ham) and their spinach salad(w/feta, cranberries, etc.). Great flavors, decent prices, but they’re popular and crowded(as such, the service was a bit slow… but the food is definitely worth the wait).

Food was ok, server was not great. Had the mediterranean flat bread and the pesto chicken flat bread. We all liked the pesto chicken on best. Fairly small. Nice patio.

Went here with a groupon. I got the steak kabob with twice baked(mashed) potatoes and grilled veggies. BF got the scallops. Service– slow. We sat on the patio and there was one waitress. It took about 10 – 15 minutes to be given silverware and have a drink order taken after being told by the hostess we could pick a seat. Food– they were out of peppers for the kabobs and was told they would give me extra meat instead. When I got the kabob there was no extra meat. The steak was seasoned well, but it was ruined by them cooking it to WELLWELL done after I asked for medium. Also disappointed in just getting one kabob($ 20). BF was disappointed in only getting 4 scallops and just a few asparagus. He ended up leaving hungry. We both enjoyed the twice baked potato. We may go back to try the«comfort food» menu in the fall, but aren’t impressed with the normal menu, especially for the price.

Worst BLT ever, no exaggeration — in AUGUST not January when they should be amazing. Think stale, dry bread, COLD bacon, grocery store tomato slice, limp lettuce. Barely warm crepes topped with Cool Whip. Really? On the upside, the spinach salad was great and the patio is lovely.

Overpriced and my Philly sandwich was tough to eat. My friend ordered a steak and it was too tough to eat so he sent it back to cook some more and never got it back. But they tried to charge us for it.

I think everyone else in the group enjoyed their meal, but I ordered the flatbread pizza and it was AWFUL! It tasted worse than a cafeteria pizza. it seemed like it was microwaved, and there was no grill marks or any sign of it being baked in an oven, and it was very flimsy. Service was good. Just don’t get the flatbread!

I ate what will probably be my last meal at Magpie’s for sometime tonight(I’m moving to Indianapolis next week), and the entire experience was as legit, delicious and memorable as the first time I sat down for a Good Neighbor and bowl of Potato Soup in the winter of 2008. In those 6 years, this restaurant was like a second home to me. From its amazing owner, to it’s laid-back but professional kitchen and wait-staff, to the very grounds, patio and foundation Magpie’s situates itself on Main St, you simply will not find a better slice of American Pie… unless of course it’s a slice of their Hershey Pie, which is even better. Tonight’s entrée’ was exceptionally good because it was something I’d never tried before: Grilled Mahi Mahi fish tacos with pico de gallo and their delicious home-made cilantro dressing. And because it’s grill season there, a side of mixed grilled vegetables and Parmesan-crusted grilled corn on the cob were a must-add to my meal. It was amazing. It’s a meal I’ll literally never forget. Even more unforgettable was desert– their freshly-made peach crepes. Simply mouth-watering and delicious! Bottom line, if you’re on Main St. in Saint Charles on a beautiful day when the shops are bustling and sun is shining, or its a cold winter’s night during the Holidays when the carolers are out and you need a place to warm you up, Magpie’s has you covered. It’s food for the soul.

After all the positive reviews I decided to give Magpie Café a visit. We had some out of town guests and were looking for a good place for lunch on Saturday to enjoy the outdoors. Upon entering the back patio we were«greeted» rather rudely by who we had to assume was the hostess, although she was also waiting tables. Not sure of this person’s name unfortunately but the first impressions were horrible. No smile, no welcome, just«how many in your party?» «If you’re not all here, sit on that bench until everyone arrives» ! All the other staff members seemed very friendly and accomodating. Although this person did seem to be in charge of Magpie, fortunately none of the other staff members took her lead, at rudeness. I was looking for a lighter but filling lunch so I opted for the small Spinach salad with Strawberries($ 5.95) and added Chicken for $ 3.00. One would assume for a $ 9.00 meal that you would get an ample amount of food to feel satisfied, yet not stuffed. Well, I definitely was not stuffed, or satisfied. Picture a very small cereal bowl sized Spinach salad with a couple of pieces of chicken and that’s what you get for $ 8.95. Very disappointed! The others in my party seemed to have a little better experience, at least from a food perspective, they seemed to have received a little more for the money. I would not recommend this restaurant, if nothing else for the rude hostess/waitress, but secondly the portions, at least for lunch leave something to be desired.

I really like magpie café. It’s cute. In my opinion it is best when you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the cobblestone streets which are lined with wonderful little shops. Love the sandwiches and salads. Wait staff tends to be hit or miss, but considering they have to go inside and then back outside to take care of service, I understand the wait we have had at times.

Once again I’m glad I’m use Taste Cards($ 10 off coupon) I’ve discovered more great restaurants than I thought I would. Hubby & I visited Magpie’s Café for lunch and I’m glad we did. This place has amazing food. We sat outside on the large patio for our meals. The waiter was very friendly and the food came out quickly. From the time we got there until the time we left we were greeted by everyone and they actually smiled! Great small place on Main Street in St. Charles a true gem. Will def come back.

Cute, cute, cute. Ladies, you wanna lunch here. The patio in the summer is perfect for a lazy afternoon, and the inside of Magpie’s is perfect to cozy up in during the winter. I will reiterate that you need to try the baked potato soup… they also have a nice selection of sandwiches and salads. Rhonda, the owner, is such a great lady… I had a spinach salad there once and loved it so much she actually wrote down the recipe for me to make on Thanksgiving. Magpie’s is serving dinner now, too! I see«comfort food» menu items being talked about on their Facebook such as chicken pot pie, lasagna, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings… things that are A-OK in my book when it’s this freezing outside. Don’t go here when you’re in a hurry… save it for when you can walk around and check out all the surrounding shops on Main Street! P. S. This place was once the Spanish governor’s home!
