I’m not really into golf, but this area is awesome. Well-kept greens and lots of shops to keep you busy. We made the trek(pun intended) to hit up the IMAX theater to see the new Star Trek movie. Great place to be!

Now, I am not a golfer. I feel like I should point that out before I even venture into this review. I mean, this is, after all, the WORLD Golf Village. Not being a golfer does skew my perception a little. For instance, there is a huge shop with all things a golf lover could dream of! It is nice. It is fancy. It is full! There are golf clubs as far as the eye can see. There is plaid and pastels oozing out of the walls! It’s really remarkable. I even found myself entertained for a while, despite the fact that not one thing in there was useful to me. As far as what I do know, there is one major thing: The IMAX Theater! Back before the days of 3-D movies like Avatar and what not, this was kind of revolutionary. We used to drive the 45 minutes it took to get to the WGV just to watch the huge IMAX movies [I believe the screens are 60 feet high?]. It was a new and exciting way to watch movies. And every so often they would have a 3-D film which, paired with the huge screen, made for an intense experience. All in all, the World Golf Village boasts amazing golf courses, nice restaurants, shops, and a big huge movie theater screen. It kind of reminds me of a [boring] adult Disney Park that is themed around Golf. It’s pretty generic, but very nice and very groomed. If you like golf, I am sure you will find yourself here sooner or later.

I just love this whole World Golf Village area. Being a world class golfing spot and home to such courses as the King and The Bear and Slammer and the Squire, you can imagine how beautiful the grounds are here. The main campus is surrounded by gorgeous gated communities and the golf courses are intertwined between these magnificent homes. Every year WGV has a really fun putting tournament that draws in all kinds of folks from the surrounding areas. Additionally on the campus there is an IMAX theater, the Renaissance Resort and Conference Center, 500 South restaurant, the Tour Stop golf store and of course the renown World Golf Hall of Fame. I have noticed that a lot of the small shops located in the campus have gone under so I hope that soon this business area will once again prosper and some additional shops here will be added. Parking here is always easy unless there is some sort of convention at the Renaissance Center. But valet is inexpensive and speedy when parking in the Renaissance Resort area.
