Dr. VDB is the best!!! I’m an avid CrossFitter who tore my subscapularis in my rotator cuff at a competition, along with really bad tendinosis in my shoulder due to overuse. My job is very physical, and requires me to be fit, strong, and healthy.
After months of physical therapy before UCD would allow me to have an MRI, I was ready for my shoulder to be fixed. Dr. VDB came highly recommended from my neighbor who was a resident MD at the Med Center. She said all of her resident coworkers would go to VDB if they needed shoulder surgery, so I requested him.
He explained my situation to me clearly, and with patience. He has a straight-​forward, professional bedside manner. He was up-​front with possible recovery times based on what he found when he went in, and was proactive in scheduling my follow-​up visits post surgery.
I’m ecstatic to say that once I recovered from the surgery itself, my range of motion has constantly been improving, and I am now pain-​free!!! Highly highly recommend Dr. VDB!!!

Really like this surgeon. He takes his time to explain everything and answer questions. His scheduler, Tanya, however, is a whole other story. She canceled and rescheduled EVERY. SINGLE. APPOINTMENT I had. Most recently she called me to say they were now only seeing new post-​ops at the Ellison clinic and so was canceling my appointment. She said I would have to call the other clinics myself — either his J St or the Roseville clinic to get another appointment. Neither one can see me until January (which will be 6 months post-​op.). The office staff at J St said they had no idea and are trying to fit me in sooner. It’s ridiculous. 5 stars for the surgeon, 0 stars for the post op experience.
Edited: I went to the appointment in January and the doctor himself apologized for the messing around. He said he was actively working to get the scheduling process worked out. I don’t know if he has as I have not had to go back.
