We had the strawberry waffle and the biscuit Benedict. The waffle was actually salty. The Benedict had one flavor: sausage grease. Skip it

We tried to try it, but waited for over 30 minutes and left after no one took the order. I asked the bus boy what something was on the menu and he had no idea. The bathroom smelled like urine, and the whole restaurant was really dirty. Too bad. We were hoping to find a new place for breakfast in Sacramento.

So it’s been awhile since I did a review, but I had to give this place some love. It’s a quaint unsuspecting comfort zone. This is the diner equivalent to good dive bar. The food was beyond expectations, tasty and thoughtful even though not too flashy. Service was something ripped right out of the 50’s, everyone was so pleasant and made you feel like a member of the family. They were also great at relaying the café’s strengths based on your taste. Prices were good, and the meal was portioned right on the money. I walked in hungry, and left in a great mood. And when it was all over, I felt like«this is a place I want to give my money to». Really, I’ll support a place like this, that truly appreciates and connects with a customer over the giant overcrowded chain places. I’ll looking forward to another visit soon.

We have been going to UPTOWNCAFE nearly every Sunday for the past year or so… the service is good,(a bit slow at times) the food is good. The place is old and funky… But it has a certain charm. Unfortunately, the owner decided to cut back on portions AND raise prices! I get the need to raise prices occasionally… but you can’t do both. Most of us haven’t seen raises in years, so when you cut portions AND raise your prices… WEFIND A NEWPLACEFORSUNDAYBREAKFAST. SIMPLE.

The food was mediocre. Actually, I found it kinda gross, but the people seating around me seemed to be really enjoying their food I might have just order something lame(slams gravy and biscuit). The service was great and they have wifi. I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

I will start this out by the fact that we walked In at 850. Since we walked in 4 more tables walked in behind us. The owner is cheap. He only works one waitress at a time. This place needs at least 2. But 3 would be better. The waitress is very Pleasant but she is in fact only one woman. You can tell she is stressed. Not to mention the 4 tables that were already here when we walked in. So her her self was waiting on 10 tables. The table next to us has stayed dirty since we got here. That makes him cheap. I also sat here waiting for a refill for over ten minutes. I wouldn’t have to wait if there were more staff to work. They have brought the cook to get drinks. He has a filthy apron and Is all sweaty. The food is amazing. But when I come to eat I don’t expect to be asked a second time for my order after I already gave it. The food is amazing and the waitress was very stress but kept her cool. The owner defiantly should have a third working too.

I usually have an okay experience here but today was just not good at all. My pancakes were burnt, they were served on my plate so the burned part was on the bottom(like if I wasn’t going to be able to taste it) my son ordered an omelet with cheddar, bacon and bell peppers, they forgot the bacon. Overall not a good experience today and they weren’t as busy as they usually are on the weekends. They still get 3 stars because you can’t find a place that’ll beat their prices.

Honestly, don’t call yourself a CAFE, if you guys can’t even make hot chocolate from scratch. Wow. I went into this«café» with my date and we ordered hot chocolate together. The waiter said«I’m sorry there can only be one.» And I was like oh man, he’s quoting some starwars stuff. But I replied, «what do you mean.» The waiter looked at me and said«we only have one packet left.» So I ended up with the ice tea… Strange… Any café would be able to make hot chocolate from scratch, right? Food was OK, just not amazing for how long we had to wait. Wish this place would train theif staff members on hospitality.

This place is an awesome small tucked away café. I love the breakfast burrito! Loaded with everything I crave in a tortilla. The portions are big for most of their dishes. Worth the money :)

Food is good — exactly what you’d expect from a local greasy spoon. They’re so slow, though. Get this server and busboy some help. Our chorizo & eggs and breakfast burrito were great.

Prices up, food down, and new chef burns everything. George and his team are gone and so is my patronage. :(

Three stars for good food, minus two stars for annoying service depending on who you get.

I’ll be honest this place is a neighborhood joint. It could use the carpet removed, the seats need reupholstering, & a deep cleaning as well. A Fresh coat of paint with some patch work, dusting etc. But we were willing to give it a try. It appears to be the neighborhood hot spot for breakfast! Prizes are extremely reasonable such as the steak & eggs @ $ 9.99 Servers are definitely attentive and are courteous We both ordered the steak & eggs for breakfast My steak tasted as if it were thawed in a microwave then cooked, like they were in a rush. Didn’t enjoy it and definitely couldn’t eat even half of it… highly disappointed. Eggs and hash browns were tasty. The people there were very nice I just wished I could have given them a higher rating but I cannot see myself coming back.

Really enjoyed the food(ate it before thinking of taking a picture) the Cajun catfish was delicious and the tri-tip was cooked perfect. The place isn’t fancy but the service was good, very friendly staff.

This is awesome find on Groupon. Tia our sever was awesome she gave great service with a smile, very warm and inviting. We ordered the uptown benidict, the chicken pot pie(chef special), breakfast burrito, and tuna melt. All of it was good. I’m glad I came here great food, at a great price. Will definitely be coming back again on the weekend to try all the other benidicts(other varities only served on the weekends). Everything was fresh and tasted great. This is one of those hole in the walls you want to bring your out of town friends to. Smile(:

I’m giving them an extra star since I can’t give 3.5 stars, but I think because they have good service that that’s fair. I love the old buildings along Del Paso Boulevard and I’m glad Uptown is there still drawing people to that area. It’s a little run down because it’s old, but it’s comfortable, and somehow when a hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream passes by the table, it feels a little more comfortable. I don’t always order the hot chocolate, but I love knowing it’s there! The bennies are good as is the catfish. I’ve also enjoyed the hot links and I think I had fried chicken there once also. The portions are generous and the servers are always friendly. I recommend it for a good hearty breakfast.

Uptown Café is interesting… it’s located in a somewhat bummy area with not a lot of businesses around. It’s across the street from SNR& nearby Son of a Bean coffee. I don’t usually come to this part of town, but since it’s not too far off the track on the way to Arden Mall, it’s not too far of a detour. The café is okay. There is decent food, good service, and so so ambiance. And on the plus side, they offer free wifi and have a free parking lot.(Not that it matters, but I also like the mural artwork on the side of the restaurant.) Restaurant ambiance — not the best, but will pass! We sat indoors at a booth that had a very looong rip in the seating. Inside was dark and the décor was a little antiquated. It’s not the cleanest restaurant. There were flies flying around and the bathroom was a little dirty. Food — not bad. Everything tasted fairly good, especially the house potatoes. I ordered the corned beef hash, which was pretty decent. The chef grinds the fresh corned beef really tiny and mixes it with potatoes and seasoning. The eggs were a little undercooked for over medium, but tasted okay. Their sweet cream pancakes were not as good as Black Bear Diner, but overall good. Service — The servers kept coming in and out of the door, which leads to the kitchen, which is outside. Despite them not being in the room a lot of times, they did come to check on me and brought me anything I asked for. Our waitress was friendly so therefore pretty good service! I would come here again.(Actually I have to… because I just bought the Groupon.) One thing to note about their Groupon — It’s only valid from Tuesdays through Fridays, HOWEVER, their delicious Benedicts that I want to try are ONLY offered on the weekends. Dang it! :p

As much as I hate to do it, I have to give Uptown a three star review based on the last couple times I’ve had breakfast here. Service is still spot on, but the food has been just okay. The hot chocolates we ordered were tepid in temperature, the eggs were too runny, and hash browns were greasy(greasier than acceptable for a greasy spoon). I will continue to come here, but I hope the food gets back to where it originally was when I loved coming here.
