Let me preface this by saying its 5 stars because for a quick grab salad and sandwich counter it hits all the points. I just finished what is now called the sesame chicken salad. It was enormous, enough for 2 people and it was delicious. They provide the right amount of toppings to salad ratio and a good amount of dressing. Will I be back? Sure will. I was very tempted by the Cobb. I have had the falafel sandwich in the past and I agree with some that it was a bit dry but I prefer that to being sopping in sauce. The quality of the salads and other sandwiches I have had overshadow that singular complaint. On another note, all of the produce involved tasted good and fresh.

I eat here regularly. Extremely hard working staff/management/owner. The provide well sized portions of great food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Big, big, big, big salads. These are two-meal salads. I am not the kind of person to say, «Oh, I’m so dainty and a healthy mild diner, I can barely finish these two leaves of lettuce so I’d better take the rest home!» I can EASILY knock out a two-cheeseburger meal at McDs, so when I say this is a two-meal salad, it’s no joke. This is a super great lunch spot for those looking for a healthier, to-go style option. Rather than going to a sit-down restaurant and spending $ 14 on a fancy salad, I can get the delicious equivalent in a RIDICULOUS portion size for $ 8 or $ 9 bucks. I’ve had a few different items here and they’ve all been extremely tasty, no skimping on toppings! They have a wide variety of yummy dressings, and the staff are super nice too.

I use to love this place when I lived here 4 years ago. Now the place is old and the food quality has really gone down. I ordered to go on a Friday and headed to my boyfriends office to eat lunch. We shared the falafel sandwich and the Asian crunchy salad. The Asian salad was huge and very good. It comes with chicken and lots of crunchy noodles. The falafel sandwich was so disappointing. Completely dry. At one point my boyfriend took a bite and he started coughing and choking because of the dry falafels. We stopped eating the falafel sandwich because we were so disappointed and we just ate the Asian crunchy salad. The good about this place is that you can get a healthy salad for a very good price. This order combo only cost me $ 16.71. If I return, I’ll just order a regular Caesar salad.

Biggest salads ever! They have a bunch of different options to choose from, and they also offer delicious sandwiches, wraps, and smoothies. They’re a great healthy option for lunch and their portion sizes won’t leave you hungry!

I tried this place several times before I did a review. I must say that I’m quite pleased at the many selections and quality of food. The place is small and can fill up quickly, but most people do to-go orders so that’s okay with me. Their serving size range from normal to friggin huge so you get your money’s worth. The staff are always friendly and have gladly accommodated my «special requests» on certain dishes when I asked which is awesome. I would recommend arriving a bit earlier than the lunch rush.

Huge salad, $ 7. This is my new healthy lunch option. Tiny nitpick is I like my salads to be heavier on the tasty add on toppings, with less greens, but for the convenience and price(and friendly service) I won’t dock a star.

Great place! Their salad is fresh and they serve you fairly quickly! I go during my lunch break, so it’s perfect! I love the Big Salad Cobb! It’s delicious! I haven’t had their sanwiches, but friends of mine have and they said they were delicious, too! Highly recommend for healthy salad or yummy sandwich!

Delicious salads, blazing fast, excellent service. Love this place, it doesn’t deserve the 3.5 rating that was tarnished due to the old management.

This is my go-to salad place downtown. They have a solid selection of different salads, the portions are very large, and the prices aren’t too high. The staff is friendly and quick. I almost always get a salad, I’ve only gotten a sandwich once, and a breakfast burrito once. Both were excellent as well. There are other places where you can get a good salad, and other places where you can get a salad for a decent price, but the Big Salad Shop has the right mix of great salads, large portions, and good prices.

Best spot for breakfast near the capital. Can’t beat their bagel sandwich for less than $ 5.

This spot is my go-to spot when I’m too lazy to make my lunch. Food is always super fresh. They have tons of options that aren’t the normal run of the mill sandwich shop. You can get sandwich/chips, or sandwich/salad combo for same price. Owner-operated. Always clean. Great place.

To be honest I have only been here twice and ordered the same thing each time. Today the Falafel Wrap was one of the best items I have had downtown for lunch in a while. The first time I went here they were having oven issues(a good 6 months ago) and I was left with a huge and tasty but lukewarm wrap. Well now I can state that the oven issue must have been resolved. The Falafels themselves are big and fluffy with all the right fixings stuffed in a large and perfectly toasted tortilla. It came with my choice of side all for under $ 8. I was impressed when the gentleman taking my order informed me that the potato salad I had selected as my side contained bacon since I had ordered a vegetarian wrap. When I asked for extra hot sauce the young lady making my lunch offered to add a side of the hot sauce in addition to my request. Service alone won an extra star. I will be back to try additional items in the future(or maybe just order more Falafel).

I’ve never been disappointed with this place, even with previous management. Prices are a little high, but whose prices aren’t? And at least the food is great! I must say, their smoothies have me hooked… not to mention the Big A$$ Cobb Salad… and the Hot Pastrami sandwich… good stuff… fills my belly on lunch hour.

The Salad is fresh. Great portions. It’s a little pricey, but I’m also really cheap so… I might be a little biased.

Stopped here due to a local recommendation as I was in town. The salad was fantastic. Called the Sonoma, it was generously piled high with Gorgonzola cheese walnuts cranberries cucumber green apple and lots of spinach and lettuce. The price is right @ $ 7.55 and I went away feeling healthier too.

Under new ownership, I was truly pleased by the friendly and quick service as well as the delicious and fresh food I encountered on my lunch break. I had the soup and salad combo(Tomato Basil Soup/turkey sandwich) and they were both very tasty and fresh! You need to check this place out if you are near the Capitol area! As I was at the counter paying, Kim the owner was preparing a delicious salad called the Sonoma that had gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, dried cranberries and green apples — YUM! That’s definitely on my list to order on my next visit. I highly recommend trying this place out and bringing your friends!

Ok, all the bad reviews must have really set my expectations low, because I would rather eat here than flush my ten dollars down a toilet. It’s not a hidden gem, it’s exactly what it looks like, a plain little storefront that isn’t making anything you probably couldn’t already make yourself, except you didn’t, so now you’re looking for something to eat. I would say the salads here are a half-step above what’s available in the Capitol cafeterias(sorry, but bagged iceberg and canned vegetables do not a salad bar make). The chicken more closely resembles chicken, at the very least. The salads are big for sure, I will never again make the mistake of trying to eat the whole thing in one sitting, because I don’t feel that great after consuming a full cup of Gorgonzola crumbles. But if you find a «full» salad from Ambrosia or Bernardos(though delectable) doesn’t really leave you feeling«full» then you might get more for your money at Big Salad. My one pet peeve, they always give you the dressing on the side and even if you ask for it on, they just pour it on top rather than mix it in. Totally personal preference, but as a salad snob I am annoyed when each lettuce leaf is not fully and uniformly coated in dressing. And I am not a fan of bottled salad dressings, which I am sure they use here. However, I expect to return to this place when I am feeling cheap but need something more substantial than canned corn and garbanzo beans atop my salad.
