HAVEAGAIN: Outstanding Mole Poblano and Arrachera Mexicana steak. The La Abuelita Ice Cream is very good, but it was so hard we had to ask for knives. Since the server was inattentive and we had to wait over ten minutes after finishing eating to even ask about dessert, be sure to ask for the knives when you order this dessert. Food is 5 stars, service is two stars.

Classy, Hugh quality Mexican cantina style restaurant right down town. We were there on a Saturday for lunch so the vibe was very mellow. Chips and salsa were great, drinks well made and balanced, large portions with amazing flavor. We’ll be back for sure.

This is possibly my favorite restaurant in all of Sacramento. The poblano soup is amazing, and the signature margarita and sangria are sublime. The dish with shrimp, mushrooms, and poblano pepper strips is so delicious. I just love this place every time I come

Ready to hear some shady shit? We came here a couple of months ago for my mom’s birthday as a party of 6 with reservations. As we waited and waited for our food(with a toddler, mind you), I finally went up and spoke to some waitstaff. They informed us that they had a large party in their banquet facilities that ended up ordering at the same time as we did and that’s why we were waiting for our food. First of all, banquets aren’t surprises and neither were we. Why didn’t you staff your restaurant for your reservations? Why were we waiting for the banquet people to get their food first? Other tables were getting their orders… So after TWOHOURSOFWAITING, we finally complained to the manager. He apologized and«sped» up our order(it all came out wrong and my food was refrigerator cold). He offered my mom a $ 150 gift card for the trouble on her birthday. As this seemed excessive, we first declined but he insisted. Fast forward to now: My mom(the angel that she is) felt that $ 150 in Mexican food was too much for her to eat on her own, so she donated the gift card to a local charity she works with for their upcoming large auction. Well, thank Christ that they checked the balance, because it turned out the gift card, a condolence from the manager for our terrible experience at Mayahuel, was never loaded. It had a $ 0 balance. I’ve worked in hospitality. I’ve pretty much worked every front of the house position. We were kind, calm, collected, and respectful. I never return food, I very rarely complain about wait times… this was ridiculous. And now, my mom who kindly donated a gift card to a charity, had to suffer the embarrassment of being told that her donation had a $ 0 balance. Shame on you, Mayahuel.

Really tasty meal. Authentic Mexican cuisine. The décor is inviting and the drinks are creative and delicious. Four of us enjoyed our meals ranging from chicken enchiladas to ceviche.

Both times we have come(Dec 2015 and Jan 2016), we have had the fortune of being waited on by Ernesto Munoz. He is friendly and knowledgeable, and anticipates the needs of the table. He makes a great experience even better. Both times, I have ordered the chicken pozole verde — absolutely fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the adobo this time — it was so tender and flavorful.

Maya… maya…mayahueeeeelllllllll… I enjoy coming here & I 99.99% of the time get the same thing each time. Why? Because it’s just sooooo good! I get the green chile chicken enchiladas. The chicken is the white meat, no chewy garbage, it is so good i always come back. I order it with Extra sauce & it comes with rice, I’ve posted PLENTY of pictures. Go check them out! My husband get the chicken mole, ALL the time, every time. He agrees with the chicken, very good. The spot would get 4.5 stars, if i could, ONLY due to parking AND inconsistent with the enchiladas, ONE day its’ 2 pieces, another time it’s 3. Can you just give me 3& i’ll pay for it? The parking garage next door used to be linked to Mayahuel, so you would get a few hours free, but not anymore. Meters it is, unless its after 7, i believe. They do serve coke products which i’m a fan of, as well as a full big bar. & water if you ask for it. The location is convenient & a nice walk on K street. You can always hitch a ride on light rail from here.
I’ve been here once for brunch & I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t recall what I ordered but it is good. It was Tostada, carnitas, egg, Pico, avocado, crema, cheese… picture is posted. Thank you Mayahuel for never disappointing when it comes to the food! i hope to see you soon. I hope to try the flan…

Been meaning to try this restaurant for a while now. Finally went in and I was not impressed. I went at about 1pm on a Wednesday. Their lunch menu is very small and their prices are pretty high. I actually didn’t see anything that sounded appetizing and the waiter told me that I couldn’t special order any items. I really didnt want to eat there but I also didn’t just want to walk out after I had been seated so I ordered chips and salsa with my friend. I won’t be returning. I would much rather eat at Zocalos, Ernestos, or Tres Hermanas.

I found out about this place from a Groupon that offered $ 40 worth of food/drink. Now, $ 40 for Mexican food, I was really expecting this to go a long way. I knew the place was in a prime spot, and kind of expected prices to be a bit higher, well, double my expectations and you’d be closer to the truth. They did have a very nice Watermelon Margarita, but it cost me $ 9, as did their«Spicy» Margarita. Add Chips and Salsa for $ 2.50 and we’re over $ 20 before the entrees. Enter entrees. I ordered their Chicken Mole($ 18), and the gf ordered their«Trocitos de Puerco en Salsa Verde» which is pork chunks with salsa verde($ 18). Total bill: $ 56.50 +tax, so over $ 60. I’ve got to say, this food was good, but not $ 30/person good. It was standard Mexican, the plate sizes were on the smaller size, nothing fancy or of a higher quality than any other Mexican place or the 2 I can think of just a few blocks away… Just a fancily decorated inside with a very large bar that stretched across the whole restaurant, and twice the price. When I come here with a Groupon, and still leave feeling like I overpaid(and that’s not counting the price paid for the Groupon), something’s wrong. Quality of the food, to be clear, was not the problem. The food was good. The prices were terrible. I will not be back, with or without a Groupon, I don’t recommend this place.

This place really pissed us off last night!!! Again, if you don’t want to participate in restaurant week, then DONOT. The food was freakin disgusting last night. The Relleno had what tasted like frozen bagged veggie medley that seeped out of it. There was absolutely no flavor. The pork chop was disgusting and appeared to be from a hungry man frozen dinner. There were old grill marks that almost appeared painted on and the Cilantro rice had no cilantro and tasted like and appeared to be boiled bag rice. Worst of all, we could tell that our server agreed with us, but did not want to admit it. For this, will never again go to this place.

This place is YUM. My friend and I came here for restaurant week, so three course meal for $ 35. Well worth the price! I ordered the taco con adobe de res, pork chop in a tequila guajillo sauce, and the margarita lime custard. All were VERY good and filling. Of the three, the taco & dessert made the most impression on my taste buds. However, I was thoroughly satisfied with the pork chop also. The service was GREAT. The food came out right after we were done with the plates before it. Water was refilled when it was low(Even their water was good!!). Our server, Ernesto Munoz, took the time to talk to us about tequila – how to tell their ages and quality – and gave us suggestions on which tequila options we should go for. Overall, 5 star experience and would definitely come back for their food and tequila!

Well the poblano soup always get 5 stars from me! The service was great and the butter cake was delicious!!! yum. Only mishap for me was that my enchiladas dinner was cold upon arrival while the soup was steaming hottttt. Also, I was told I couldn’t purchase an al a carte taco, which I wanted one. No complimentary chips here, but I didn’t need any. Overall, the service, butter cake, and poblano soup are the winners!

The first time we tried this place was on a Sacramento food /restaurant tour. Our food tour sampling that day included Crema de Chile Poblano an absolutely wonderful soup. It was so good my wife and I returned the very next day to have some more(and the following weekend). We also like the Ceviche(shrimp) Acapulco de Camarón. Another suggestion is the Bocaditos de México which includes a sample of six individual bites of tasty distinctive food selections. This restaurant has a very nice location on K Street which includes some shaded outdoor seating on the main drag. Nice bar and a backroom large enough to accommodate a good size private party. Parking at the Hilton makes for a convenient quick stop.

This is not your Father’s Mexican food… this is a new spin on some classic flavors with excellent service to compliment the food. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday. We were acknowledged and immediately seated with menus. Out server introduced himself and left a card with his name on the table. We ordered drinks and an appetizer of a pumpkin dip and chips. Now I believe that they have over a hundred types of tequila but the drink menu was fairly basic so I think if you really want to explore you have to ask. I just went for a margarita and it is very classic over ice and not sweet. This is one thing that reminded me of classic Mexico as I have had a few margaritas in my life at very classic hole in the wall places in Mexico and it was definitely how to make an authentic one. They had both a vegan and a vegetarian choice as well as gluten free guides on the menu. My boyfriend had the veg. Enjococadas Michoacanas which had lots of guac on the inside of an Enchilada with lot of mushrooms on the outside. I had the Chile Relleno en Salsa de Epazote con Camarón. The Epazote sause was very rich and was on the outside while the shrimp and crab were inside the chili with a lovely red sauce. At the end of the meal my boyfriend states«do you have cake or something because today is her birthday» Out server handle this with such grace coming out with a slice of pineapple cake with a sparkler on top. This is a special occasion type of place for us… but it was a memorable evening made special by the food and ambiance.

My honey called to place a take out order and it was ready to go in 15 minutes. I got the Tacos de Camarón en Chile Ancho($ 15) and he got the Mole Poblano con Pollo($ 18). We also ordered guacamole and chips($ 8.50) to share. At first I thought the prices were a bit steep, but upon opening up and consuming our food, I realized that the portions and quality are spot on. We were both stuffed and happy after our meal. My only disappointment was that my tacos seemed to be missing their sauce… although they were still quite good. I would definitely order food to go, or even dine in, when I’m in town for business again.

Was in town for a conference with a coworker, who looked this up on Unilocal. If you are driving here, you can park in the Hyatt parking and the Tequila Museo will validate 2 hours. The drinks are delicious! I had an «Así Se Llama México», which tastes like watermelon mixed with a Mexican saladito(the spicy one) with a dash of tartness. I had a second drink after dinner: a «Mango Chile», which is sweet spicy in a very delicious way(not so spicy that you can’t enjoy the drink) — it was perfection(pictures don’t do it justice). Ernesto Munoz was our server — he was very friendly and recommended his fave dish when I asked him what his fave was(I can’t remember the name but it had shrimp and mushrooms and I loved it). My co-worker had the steak tacos and she really liked her meal too. Am definitely coming back next time were in town. :)

After a fun night at Coin-Up, my significant other and I decided that we deserved a stiff adult beverage. While arriving at the end of K street, we stumbled upon Tequila Museo Mayahuel. I vaguely remember hearing rave reviews about the variety of tequilas offered here. However, based on the«cute» portions of food that I observed, this isn’t the place that you want to check out if you have a huge appetite. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and escorted to the bar(maybe the looks on our faces expressed that we needed to drink?). The tequila bar closes resembles another tequila bar by the name of Centro Cocina Mexicana(another great Tequila bar). We both settled on the«Mayahuel Fresca.» Which is a «tequila cocktail» with agave nectar, muddled cucumber, mint, and grapefruit juice. Even though our drinks were small in stature, they were flavorful AND tasted great. Imagine having a stiff sex on the beach(not like I’ve ever had one before… :). Think I’m exaggerating? Their drinks are so potent that two women at the bar, clearly good friends, went from having calm conversation to arguing loudly and getting escorted out of the restaurant. If the drinks at your bar doesn’t provoke you to fight your own friends, maybe you should reconsider your bar of choice(that’s the motto that I have assigned to Mayahuel)! I almost forgot to mention that this place has great customer service. After the small dispute, the manager came over to make sure that we were ok. I was tempted to ask the manager to offer us a free drink for the«troubles», but my significant other didn’t think that was a great idea… :( I will be back!

I walk into this place for the first time and my mission was I need to hit the bar and try some drinks! We sit at the exclusive bar with tacos and our bartender was very welcoming! He seriously made everything fun and enjoyable. I ordered flor de nopal, the smokey barrel(Mezcal) taste was so unique and I seriously could close my eyes and picture myself in Mexico in a novela LOL. Such an experience! Sitting there, curiosity peeked and I ordered a carnitas taco. The playing was so cute and my tiny little taco was perfect. The carnitas were cooked to perfection with flavor and no to mention the salsa on it was hot! So hot I had to of course order sabor a Mexico! Watermelon margarita … I finished it in less then 2mins. It was that good I regret not enjoying it hahaha . Defiantly coming back and brining my family this place makes me want to own my own!

My usual hangover spot. We come in almost every other Sunday. This place is beautiful inside. The murals on the walls are spectacular. Bartenders are great and friendly. We have never had a bad experience. The food is mexican but a lot of the spices, I think, are more related to South America. Can’t remember plate names specifically because we try new ones each time. Breakfast is off the chain tough, so much food on each plate. The steak with enchilada dinner is big enough for both of us, If you want spicy they have it. Special spicy menu. They have a damn taco bar for Christ sakes. The guacamole is really good. We order it each time. Not into tequila but this place has a ton of infused tequilas. They definitely deserve five stars. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. A little more pricey than other but worth it. You get what you pay for.
