The food is tasty without being rich and over fulfilling! Just superb flavors!!! 2 thumbs up!!!

The Supper Club is Sac’s best kept secret! A must do date night. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. The most delicious food I’ve ever eaten in Sacramento. As a bay area foodie, I can tell you, Matt has outdone even Alice and most of her offshoots. Besides being a culinary genius and wine sommelier, he’s truly a down home nice guy who comes out of the kitchen and chats with you, without a hint of stress about him. Nice ambience, not too foo-foo, you feel as if you went to a nice dinner party at a friend of a friend’s.

Kind if pricy but Not worth the money. To me, the Supper Club is like going to a slot machine and drop $ 100 after 10 mins and walk away feeling like a loser. Would rather go to a place that’s a lot more classier with better food quality and leave feeling good!

Supper Club is nothing short of incredible! I go there several times a year to celebrate family events and every single time, they wow me. The duck four ways a month ago simply blew me away. It’s like they get better with age, unlike most restaurants that stagnate and rest on their laurels. The wine pairing is always spot on, their staff is courteous and efficient, and the owners are charming. I’m also a huge fan of Charlie, the owner’s soft-spoken, behind the scenes right hand man. I also can’t recommend their catering enough. They’ve done our rehearsal dinner, wedding for 250, family and Christmas parties and not once have we been disappointed. They even mop their way out of the kitchen. You can’t get much more impressive than that!

Kevin H. really nailed it. I feel sorry for the people of Sacramento. Not only was this meal mediocre, the«host» insulted the diners: «There is a surprise course. It reflects the regional cuisine of North Carolina where I just visited. It’s called ‘grits’. Now, don’t be afraid. It’s a lot like polenta and you have all had polenta.» I’ve got news for this guy: you can find grits on the menu in any Denny’s!!! If you have ever had a convention dinner anywhere in America, you have tasted the food represented by The Supper Club. The price was simply outrageous for the quality. This is NOT The Kitchen and even The Kitchen is not that great. Everyone receives the same fixed menu at the same time. We suffered for three and a half hours through underwhelming food, some of which was downright BAD. The duck was too chewy to even swallow. The chef couldn’t bring himself to recommend the one dessert on the menu and recommended instead the cheese plate. What was on the cheese plate? Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, which are fine, but can be found at any Whole Foods store(among others) and aren’t anything exotic. The real purpose of the outrageously mediocre and expensive meal was to push their wines. Their wines are mostly fortified… with alcohol contents in excess of 15%. We were all pressured to purchase(at an additional $ 35.00, exclusive of tip) the wine pairing. Anyone who selected this left The Supper Club too drunk to drive and about $ 175.00 per person poorer. For 30 minutes more of the diner’s time, the Sacramento diner could make a reservation at Canteen or hundreds of other spectacular places, drive to San Francisco, park the car, eat a meal TENTIMES better than the Supper Club, for HALF the price, including parking, gas, and depreciation on the car and not face a DUI charge. My husband and I were ripped off at this place, and believe me, we resent it. Be forewarned.

Holiday dinner party in December. Two previous visits as well. Just OK. They have improved the setting of the lobby/foyer and some indoor décor. Plastic chairs as noted are just plain wrong. Food is ok, but not enough or surprising in any good ways. I noted presentation was inconsistent among plates in our group. While they say they offer more, it is not promoted further than the intro speech by Matt. They did get me pretty tipsy from the wine pairing to the point I started to not care about the food as much. After dinner wine sale seemed to be a good deal, but I was unable to think clear enough after dinner so did not attempt purchase.

I just attended The Supper Club for the first time. We had a company Christmas party there and had the whole restaurant to our selves. Each course and wine pairing was right on. The Kobe Bevette, and Sea Bass were excellent. I highly recommend it!

Ummm, not quite Amsterdam or SF but I guess it will do for Sacramento. Never quite figured out if this was supposed to be following the international Supper Clubs. Far cry from even close.

Overrated. Some kind of shenanigans has to be going on for the rating this place has on Unilocal. I can’t think of one dish that was good enough to serve in a real restaurant. Every dish was«one note» and tasted as if it came from a jar. Don’t get me wrong, nothing was bad, it’s just nothing was really good. This lesson cost me $ 240 for two people(after tip with one glass of wine). The chairs were plastic deck chairs and the table decorations were the green colored rocks you put into vases spread out on the table. Seriously? Service was great(a little too casual though) and room had a nice ambiance. Unfortunately this is not enough. I would never pay to eat here again. If you think this is good food, look up a nice place in San Francisco and eat there. Pocket the left over cash for you’re kids college fund. You’re welcome.

One Word: AMAZING!!! My fiancée surprised me on my birthday & took me to the Supper Club for dinner. As soon as we walked into the courtyard, we were greeted and offered glasses of wine and appetizers. The 1st appetizer was a tree huggers BLT made from portobello mushrooms instead of bacon and wow, was this delicious! We kept waiting for the server to come around again so we could grab some more! Now onto the main dinner… The course that stood out for me the most was the olive oil peach cured salmon. We literally ended every bite with a «mmmm» and were sad when we finished our plates. My fiancée especially loved the pork & beans dish. The pork belly was seared to perfection with a nice crunchy crust. He definitely got seconds on that and even took some off of my plate. The meal ended with a rosemary walnut crusted cheesecake. I’m not a huge cheese fan, so I only took a few bites of this. But I did eat all of my homemade chocolate truffles they had on the plate! Overall, this was by far the best dinner experience I’ve ever had! From the décor to the staff and of course the food…

Food: They offer a five course meal and you can also get the wine paring option(recommended). The food here is fabulous. The portions are just right and you will be full by the end of your meal. Other: Yes this place is a bit pricey, but worth trying. The whole experience was top notch. Before you sit down, they will offer some small bites and a glass of wine which was a wonderful touch. The service was excellent and the environment was very relaxing. Definitely will return again.

This place is worth the price tag. Matt Woolsten is a Chef God and everything he touches is absolutely delicious and is paired with the perfect wine. When in doubt, trust your chef! I recently took a large group there and Matt worked with us on the cost. The initial portion appeared small, but then there were seconds and thirds. I have only been here for private events, but it has always been amazing. I am dying to go for one of his prix fixe dinners.

Blair Anthony can kiss my ass. The Bee needs a new food critic. 3 stars because the waitress couldn’t answer a question? This was without question a 5 star dining experience I went the same day as the last two reviews, but just haven’t gotten to this review yet. Bryan J. detailed the menu, so I won’t.(Except the surprise course of scallops on a pesto rice after the appetizers [which also included rosemary shrimp and baby potato skins with gruyère]). But I will tell you what it’s like. It’s so intimate, it seems inviting to go ahead and talk over to the strangers at the next table. It’s a lovely experience for everyone, and a number of times I felt like talking to the others who were sharing it with me. Yeah, it was quiet, but I think that night, the attending customers we just being a bit reserved. I wish more tables that night were like Bryan J. It would have been more fun. And maybe thats the difference between here and The Kitchen, or just a difference on nights, but I get the feeling The Kitchen harbors interaction between patrons a bit more. With that, there is NO reason whatsoever to say that because it’s a bit different, that it’s not a 5 star ‘culinary experience’. The chef comes out before hand and explains the entire menu including the wines. If you want to experience perfect wine pairings, go here, the menu is designed around the wines and it shows. Course after course come out, with seconds offered on a few of them. Dare to take some seconds if you will. They are absolutely generous with the wine. This restaurant was created by a foodie chef, who wants to share. Not by a businessman who wants to make a buck. It’s fair to compare the Supper Club with The Kitchen, but not with the exact criteria. If I judged The Outback and Mortons in the same criteria because I ordered a steak at both, I’m an idiot. If you’re a Steakhound you should go to both. If you’re a foodie, you need to go here. Make sure the owner makes a profit so a place like this sticks around. It is significantly less expensive than The Kitchen. $ 85.00 is a lot less than $ 125.00, and The Kitchen wine is much pricier as well(Always $ 35.00 at Supper Club, $ 64.00 this month for a glass at each course at The Kitchen). I think the price points make Supper Club a BARGAIN. Albeit an expensive one.

We went to Supper club last weekend and I have to say I Loved the appetizers and the wine selection, but the food was just not very good and super meaty(goat followed by meatloaf as your last 2 courses, I dont think I ate anything green at all.) The service is great — a cute young guy and an even younger girl who says she is 21 was very friendly almost too casual but cool nonetheless and the ambiance is okay but you can hear a pin drop and boring tables around us but if you are to spend $ 200 a person which is what it ends up being, go to the Kitchen — so much more fabulous and so much more delicious. ADDITIONALCOMMENTS: (due to the foregoing experience, I subtracted 1 star) ALSO, i have to say I bought 12 wines from their selection from their wine club and the first one I opened was COMPLETELYTURNED. SO I wrote an email and left a message, well the gal«alexis» tells me I have to return the bottle to prove it turned. I live in Oakland! This is after I PERSONALLY spent 1000 at their establishment, I bought my friends dinner for his bday and I bought the case of wine for myself, WOWGUYS this is not how you treat customers. Anyway, I finally got a hold of the owner and she did not even know about the issue, I’m still waiting for my 19dollars. All told, very dissappointing. Simply not worth my time and effort dealing with these people. People in Sacramento are easy to please — this is NOT a five star restaurant but compared to Chilis maybe it is.

Went here last night for my birthday dinner. Overall, it was a great experience. The atmosphere is conducive to a quiet dinner and I was with my brother and three friends and I think we were a bit much for everyone, but then again, it’s about what you make of it. I had a great time. It’s borderline painfully quiet. If you happened to peruse my review about Wood Tavern in Berkeley, what I enjoyed was the noise level. I personally don’t like it when I feel like everyone in the restaurant can listen to your conversation. For me, they music(which was great) could have been a bit louder so as to alleviate a few moments of ‘uncomfortableness.’ But really, if you do go to Supper Club, it’s about the food and the wine. Oh… the wine… the never ending wine. Plan ahead if you go — it’s a lot of wine consumption. Be absolutely sure to get the wine pairing as it pretty much unlimited. Sometime a restaurant will offer a wine pairing but doles out 1.5 oz and that’s it. Not at Supper Club. They just keep coming around and topping you off. Now, as far as the food goes… I’m pretty picky. I was reading through all the other Unilocal comments on Supper Club and I really wish my darn birthday was in the summer. The Supper Club prides itself on cooking sustainable, local, organic food. I hibernate in the winter and do all my eating in the summer. It seems very much like the summertime sustainable food/meats/veggies would be more up my alley in the preference department. Our dinner was excellent, but I really wanted a lobster crêpe, a lobster corn dog, a BLT mini sandwich, a tuna steak with mushroom latte, duck with creamy ravioli, lamb and potatoes, or kobe beef. We arrived right at 6.30PM and had wine accompanied by a roasted date filled with shaft blue cheese, spiced pecan and house made goose prosciutto. Also a potato skin that was a knock out and a shrimp appetizer. All were awesome. For the first course, we had a millionaires salad with pan fried foie gras, poached lobster, arugula, blood orange confit and avocado salad. Great creamy textures and nice balance. It was served with Caymus Conundrum White, 2008 which was a great compliment to the first course. Second course — A sumptuous eight hour french onion soup topped wtth gruyère and brioche toasts. Paired with a Talbott Pinot Noir 2007 out of Monterey County. By far, the most revered wine at our table. The soup was so incredibly sweet, not from adding sugar, but from the extensive amount of time that the onions were caramelized. Really nice! Could have had three of them! Third course — 4 cuts of Bledsoe Farms Goat with roasted brussel sprouts. My good friend had some issues with the goat thing, but I thought it was delicious. There was a chop, a filet, shredded shoulder and another piece that I can’t remember off the top of my head. Paired with a Bodegas Monastrell 2008 out of Spain. Delish! Fourth course — Truffled Dry Aged Angus Prime Rib Meat Loaf served with horseradish créme fraiche over scalloped yukon gold potatoes and smoke tomato broth. I enjoy the heady smokiness of the dish and thought it was very well presented considering what I was eating. I would never dream of ordering meatloaf in a restaurant — that’s something one makes at home. I thought it was delicious. My dining partners did not agree. 3 out of 5 didn’t care for it. It was paired with a Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 out of Napa. Again, the wine pairing is done very well. You can’t go wrong with the pairing if you enjoy good wine. Dessert — Meyer Lemon Tart with Moscato Zabaglione in a toasted almond shell on scarlet orange caramel with Grand Marnier whipped cream. Paired with a 2007 Michele Chiarlo Moscato D’Asti from France. Really nice, though I am not a big Moscato fan. We also had a wonderful selection of artisanal cheeses served with a port poached pear, rosemary walnuts, mizuna salad and baguette. Paired with a 2004 Pedroncelli Four Grape Port from Dry Creek. Nothing makes me happier than stinky blue cheese and a glass of port. Whoa. Should you have the chance… go. It’s really good. Remember that the menu changes every month, so check the website for an updated menu. I think everyone should ‘dine’ every now and then. Us Americans are too focused on doing everything at light speed and not truly enjoying ourselves. Shout out to Greg and Cassandra, our servers, who did a fantastic job at their jobs.(I’m a National Server Trainer for a large restaurant — if there is one thing I watch, it’s service.) I think I will try it again maybe in July. I enjoy summer foods so much more than winter; although… if you are really in to hearty winter time food… Check it out and thanks for reading.

What I love about this place(aside from the food) is how laid back it is– the service is excellent and they aren’t at all pretentious or snooty. The prix fixe menu at Supper Club is innovative, creative and balanced. Everything just melts in your mouth. The lobster crêpe with carrot/ginger emulsion(they reduced 50 lbs of carrots into this most delicious reduction sauce) was an inspiration! The portions are perfect– you need to pace yourself or you won’t have room for dessert. Yes, it’s $$$ but if you’re serious about food and experiencing quality and unique dishes, Supper Club won’t disappoint you. Just go!

I have been to Supper Club several times over the years and they are amazing. I usually go for the wine events. But the food, wine and service are outstaning, The people are great, from the owners, to the cooks and the staff. The ambiance is enviting and I always have good memories of this place. My friend got married here too! Highly recommend The Supper Club

My boyfriend and I came here for New Year’s Eve, so we didn’t experience the whole dinner presentation. However, we were able to try endless amounts of passed and buffet appetizers including lobster corndogs, rack of lamb lollipops, seared ahi, smoked salmon, lobster crepes, and more. Everything was absolutely delicious and well-worth the $ 55/person pricetag. Good food, good wine, and Nintendo Wii made for a great way to welcome the New Year. Plus, the Woolstons are wonderful hosts! Hopefully we’ll be able to make it back to try their typical pre-fixe dining experience.

Oooh I think I’m going to be a regular at this restaurant! You start out in the lobby with some drinks and hor d’oeuvres from 6:30pm. You then get seated around 7pm, then be ready to be wined and dined till 11pm. Dinner started out with lobster corn dog, BLT mini sandwich, and potato skin for hor d’oeuvres, followed by Tuna steak with mushroom latte(sounds strange, but so rich and delicious!), duck with creamy ravioli, lamb and potatoes, kobe beef for entrees, then molten chocolate cake with home made banana ice cream for dessert. Everything melted in my mouth. I highly recommend getting wine pairing with the food, too. I thought their food was much better than the Kitchen. A must-go!

This is my favorite restaurant — it’s not even a restaurant, it’s an all-night dining and entertainment extravaganza! The cliché about living in Sacramento is «the best thing about Sacramento is that you’re an hour from Tahoe and an hour to the City.» For me, the best thing about living in Sacramento is that we have the Supper Club! For the unfamiliar, the Supper Club serves pre-fixe meals on Fridays and Saturdays, with or without specially selected wines that are served with each course. Matt and Yvette Woolston are the chef and hostess respectively, and both fulfill their roles to perfection. The evening begins at 6:30 and we usually roll(literally) out at about 10:30. Yet the evening is perfectly paced and by the time it’s over one wonders how it could have gone by so fast. The evening always begins with passed-around appetizers and wine or a special cocktail for the evening. At about 7 p.m. the guests are seated. Chef Matt then comes out and talks with the diners, explaining what he’s serving, how he made it, and why he selected the wines he has paired with each dish. His speech is always entertaining, especially when he nonchalantly explains how he threw together some ridiculously difficult-sounding item such as the pickled watermelon rind salad that went with the spinach and seaweed-infused rice cake for the tuna course. There is always a «surprise course» not listed on the menu. His wine selection skills are stellar as well. As we approach 8:30, then 9:00, the anticipation began to grow for the main events of the evening, the meat courses. I could go on all day about Matt’s appetizers, soups and salads but I’d need a week to describe his presentations of meat.(I must mention here that the Supper Club also has now added a vegetarian menu served in a similar fashion. I imagine that it must be very good, but I’ll never know.) Past menus have included rabbit, wild boar, and buffalo, but also usually include some combination of chicken, pork, lamb or beef. And they give you seconds! Another element of the Supper Club experience is that they pass around seconds of the meat courses. As it approaches about 9:30, one wonders if it is possible to continue. Yet the menu says that there is still dessert. Be prepared that the desserts at the Supper Club keep up the level of artistry and quality and that you will simply not be able to avoid eating every bit and wishing that they passed seconds on that as well. There is always a cheese plate and a dessert available, both paired with dessert wines. If you’re a couple and smart you’ll order one of each. The cheese plates are always excellent, usually three types of cheese varying in flavor and texture along with a port-poached pear and, as usual, some micro-salad greens, spiced rosemary walnuts and baguette from the Old Soul bakery. Cheese heaven. The price of the evening is $ 85 without wine and $ 120 with wine(poured generously). For one of the very best meals, and very best evenings you are ever likely to have, it’s a bargain. Go.
