Friendly & quick service. Clean & modern setting. Although there was a small selection of vegetarian dishes, the one I had was DELICIOUS; it was some type of curry. Also, they have the best Thai tea. The ginger ice cream was sweet, but not something I could eat on a daily basis. Regardless, I had a great experience here!

Came here for a casual lunch as my work building was over on 19th street. This place was a recommendation from my friend who’s been here before. This place is like a combination of various type of asian food including singaporean, chinese, thai, etc. I ordered the Singaporean Noodles and it reminded me of pad thai. Would definitely come back here again as the prices are cheap and the food is great.

I don’t know about their regular menu items but the gluten free is either not gluten free or it’s contaminated. Got horribly sick after eating here.

I really love the vegetable Bahn mi, although it can at times come off a tad too sweet. I used to order it at the food truck in Davis but it is a bit different at the main restaurant. Sweet potato fries are great, as is the aioli that comes with it. I get the lunch specials here only because the dinner and main items are too pricey. Overall, I think it is good.

We go here 3 times a week for take-out Bahn Mi’s after school. It’s clean, convenient, and really tasty. I love all the vegetarian options. I wish they had shrimp rolls…

I was craving some soup. My friend suggested I check this place out. I ordered for pick up Buddha salad rolls & spicy Thai chicken soup combo. It was very refreshing and tasty.

Okay, after many repeat visits since my 12⁄2011 review, I’m going to admit I was wrong. :-) This place is great! Order any of the dinner plates(lemon grass chicken, korean beef) to go and have plenty of tasty food for dinner and lunch the next day. Also, the phở is delicious! My only quip these days is limited parking, but that is difficult to reconcile.

I’ve been here a few times now and every time I try to go in with an open mind since most people seem to love it, but it’s just a «meh» kind of place for me. Sure the ingredients are fresh, the service is fine, the prices aren’t high… but the food just doesn’t really call out to me. I usually stick to the boon noodle bowl but the sauce is a little too sweet and I never really want to eat my leftovers later on. I’ll probably keep occasionally coming back for lunch when I’m craving something asian, but if it wasn’t so conveniently located to my work, I would probably go somewhere else instead.

This is definitely one of Sacramento’s best pad thais. The combination of fresh vegetables, thoroughly cooked but still crunchy, with noodles, not too moist and not at all dry created a dish which was holistically excellent. The sweet tamarind sauce coated the lightly-grilled chicken, and were delightfully contrasted by the crunchiness of the fresh mung beans and chopped peanuts. The plate was a study in balance, and this one could walk a tight rope. However, this was not a classic pad thai. Star Ginger incorporated many vegetables not classically in pad thai(e.g snap peas) and no tofu making this more American or maybe even a fusion dish. Furthermore the cleanliness of the dish, i.e. the distinctness of each ingredient, took from the complexity and depth one expects from a traditional pad thai.

Had the $ 10 Banh Mi, sweet potato fries and draft beer special. Great value for after 5 pm. The Banh Mi was their famous Korean beef and had a nice flavor with the cilantro, cucumber, carrot, jalapeño, and daikon. Regular price of the Banh Mi is $ 7.95 and the regular price of the beer is $ 5.50. With this deal, you get all three for $ 10! Also tried the happy hour salad rolls with chicken, noodles, carrots, and cucumber, and the Thai chicken green curry for $ 5 each. What a value! The Curry was very flavorful and a very generous portion. There were 8 pieces of the Thai Kao Soi Chicken rolls with a small side of noodle salad and a peanut hoisin dipping sauce. To top if off, I had a Thai ice tea for good measure. Environment was very clean, warm lines and inviting. the only call out is that the sun creates a large amount of heat thru the windows, so if you sit near the window in the afternoon, it will get a little hot. They were working several large space fans to try to cool the place down. Servers as usual were very helpful, efficient and prompt.

Never order beef phở here. Ever. Take the extra 10 minutes to drive to south Sac and get waaaay better phở. I think I can make that with«soup» with caldo, garlic, and salt. Other stuff might look promising. I know banh mi from Huang Lan is probably the best I can find in Sac, so if this is good then I’d have to bump up a star or two. The promotional ads on the video screens really were an eyesore though.

I would give this place five stars if the staff wasn’t so rude. Every time I am here both the shorter girl and the taller boy at the register are very rude as they take your order. Makes the atmosphere a little uncomfortable until you walk away. However, the food is always always always good and makes up for the uncomfortable experience ten-fold. I think with more pleasant people at the front it could even better but for now, I’ll take my food to go!

Hungry and want Thai for lunch? This is the place closest to my office. Is it amazing? It is your favorite Thai place? Is this your go to Thai place? I love Thai food, but the only time I go here is during work. There are a few reason. I tried to bring my father here on the weekend and there was no parking. We drove around the block a few times and nothing. If you can’t walk here or get a ride I suggest you pass. This place is perfect for the working class at lunch. You walk in stand in line, order, and pay. A quick meal. Tasty and perfect serving for one. If you are looking for a restaurant where you sit down and are served this is not the place. Happy Hours is great. They have some really good specials. They also have daily specials written on the white paper to the left of the cashier.

I came for the phở to cure my hangover. They use quality chicken in their phở, which seems harder to find these days. They have a big portion so be hungry! The parking is limited, but once you find a spot the food is delicious. The inside décor is so comforting and inviting. I will be back to try more dishes that I was eyeing as I was eating.

Star Ginger, you are still going strong. I came on a Sunday at lunch time and ordered the Korean BBQ Bahn Mi beef sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. This place still puts out amazing Bahn Mi sandwiches– juicy beef chunks, sliced cucumber, cilantro, shredded carrot, sweet pickled onion, kimchee, and a spicy red sauce on a crusty baguette. Wowza, an explosion of flavor in my mouth! I come for the delicious, value-priced food and stay for the chill ambiance in a beautiful location. Stay strong, Star Ginger, I know Ill be back.

I craved soup one day and ate at Star Ginger. Their parking is limited and the neighbors don’t like you parking in their lots so be careful. The service is standard with a little smile but no overwhelming feeling that they were glad I choose them over the nearby restaurants. Prices are as expected for a Thai restaurant. I ordered their Kao Soi soup. It was served fast and I made sure to mix it before the broth became cold. I liked the 6+ variety of vegetables they placed into the soup which made a simple dish seem complex. The broth was good and had coconut milk. The overall experience felt average and I’ll be back when it’s convenient.

After reading on Unilocal, I been passing this place for awhile and did not know it was actually connected with Mai Pham’s Lemon Grass Restaurant. I like their Salad Rolls, Thai Kao Soi with Tofu and lemon Grass Chicken. The flavors are the same as I remembered from Lemon Grass Grill in La Bou and on a cold night order a huge bowl of Chicken Phở with noodle YUMMMY! At night night dinner is full service, the wait may be a little long but be patient your food will arrive to your table. Their menu is simple and also serve beers and wines. This location is on a corner with limited parking stalls. I will return during lunch time to try other items on the menu.
