I went to this location for the first time yesterday, I used to go to the one in downtown San Jose when I lived down in the bay area, and can say my experience was absolutely amazing!!! I had Megan, a phase 2 student, do my hair. I wanted a golden ombré look since my hair before was box dye black with some red mixed with it(hot mess!). Showed her and the instructor what I wanted and they went to work. She was very concentrated in her work which I greatly appreciated! After about 4 hours we were finished and my hair looked exactly like it did in the picture! LOVEIT! I’d highly recommend coming here not only for their decent prices, but to also help and encourage the students here as well to build up my experience and confidence. MEGAN, THANKYOUSOMUCH! I will be returning soon!

I could not be happier with my experience! I came in long, blonde, undyed and left platinum, silver with lavendar shadow roots in a pixie cut! I am so pleased with high level of customer service! My consultant Morgan was professional, knowledgeable and confident with kickin’ hair. Her instructor Ali only added to the consultation, offering advice, encouragement and support. I loved hearing the technical knowledge and terms as my hair dresser was instructed. I highly recommended Paul Mitchell School, Sacramento, and will be back! Get the Unilocal deal if you are going for coloring and cut! ;)

I come in to do toning and keratriplex and its amAzing. They do a good job. I won’t ever get a haircut though as it did cause me to have choppy layers that I needed to have redone. However, will continue to do toning and deep condition. Also expect to spend a lot of time! As the students are learning. Overall, carefully pick and choose what your okay with.

I love this place. Ive only gotten hair color here, no other services. I have red /strawberry blonde hair and I get it darkened to dark brown black, costs me half or less than a regular salon. But my hair isnt complicated, basically slap on the color, no highlights or low lights or anything like that. I used to do it myself at home(which is cheapest of course but a hassle doing it on yourself) but it’s worth it for me to get it done here since it’s so affordable, plus I’m a student and they give 20% off for that. It’s taken awhile to get the correct color formulation to cover my roots completely but I went through that at a fancy salon in a country club as well. So for me its great

I really enjoyed my highlight service with Kenisha. She was friendly and personable, the students and staff were accommodating! Overall, the ambiance of the school and how nice everyone is, as well as the quality is just as much as you would get at a higher end salon for a wonderful price! I would recommend going here, plus they have a Groupon up(which I had) and it was a steal for the job that they did on my hair.

My service was wonderful. I had a wash and blow dry/style plus the Keraplex treatment which I had chosen to add on based on their supervisor’s suggestion. It was a good add on because my hair is coarse, thick asian hair which has been bleached and colored so it’s definitely in a state. The treatment was very restorative and made my hair feel wonderful to the touch. My student stylist was wonderful as well, she was nice and friendly, same ambiance as someone you would meet at a pricey salon. The staff and students give the place a great vibe, plus the cost of the services are honestly such a great deal; it’s what you would get an an expensive salon for way less! Give it a chance and you might just find your next go to stylist for future colorings and treatments!

I am very disappointed in the job they did on my hair. The girl who did my hair obviously did not know what she was doing and they do not properly supervise their students. Now I am going to have to go somewhere else to get it fixed

When I walked through the doors to chaos, I should have run back out! Unfortunately I did not. My whole experience was terrible. The appointment system was down, so nobody was prepared for incoming clients. I drove an hour for the appointment. I was assigned to a «Phase 2». I explained what I wanted & showed several pics so the student & instructor had a clear idea of what I wanted. I understand that my hair would not turn out exactly like the pics, but I walked out in tears! I do not blame the student. He was nervous & unsure of how to do what I wanted. His instructor, Robert, what not helpful. In fact, most of the time(while my stylist was struggling), Robert was wandering around chatting rather than supervising his students. I was very specific about the fact that I did not want any warm/gold tones, ash only, but that was completely ignored. Neutral color was used on my roots to create the ombré, then the same color was used for lowlights. Unfortunately, the color went very gold & darker than I wanted. The«lowlights» turned out to be dark chunks making my hair look leopard spotted! The student did not weave in small darker color, he covered whole foils with brown. The worst part was my cut. It was a pretty basic cut, A-Line without losing front length. Definitely NOT what I got. The front was 4 inches shorter than when I walked in. There were 3 distinct layers which were not connected to the over all cut(if that makes any sense, picture a little girl’s dress with layers of ruffles). I actually had to have my cut redone the next day somewhere else because it was so uneven & choppy. I was in the chair over 5 hours. 2 other instructors were consulted by the student. Robert was too busy socializing, the first female instructor was the one who told my stylist to use neutral color, was busy with her own students & the third was too busy styling a student’s hair to prepare for a Marulaoil presentation. When I left, I was in complete shock. I have never had such a terrible experience in a salon.

This location had a Groupon for highlights and because I once was a student back in the day I thought I give it a try. So I pride myself in honest reviews, here it goes. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The good… the location was great and parking is ample. The atmosphere was professional and clean. It felt like a salon worthy of Paul Mitchell. They were very busy when I arrived which is fine. When I got called back the student was inquisitive appropriately and she was going to be graduating in August… I’m thinking okay great she’s not a complete newbie. I mentioned to her I wanted to add ashy blond highlights overall to brighten up my ombré and blend it a little more for depth. Mind you I’m very specific since I’ve been getting my hair done for last two decades almost. She’s says fine no worries. I sign all my paperwork and the allergy test is suppose to be done 24 hours in advanced to coloring but I guess she didn’t know that or forgot as the instructor corrected her… and I read it clearly on the paperwork too. So thus no patch allergy test for me. She started mixing her colors for me and they mixture seemed dry to me, but I’m not a hair stylist, so I’m trying to have faith. Another student who was newer came to assist. She seemed actually more knowledgeable. Thank goodness. After 3.5 hours they finally rinse out the color and tone it. Halfway through the color wasn’t taking because she used the wrong developer and had to go over the foils with a new dye. Okay fine. They’re students. They tone my hair and she again used a too low level toner. The color was okay but still a bit brassier than I cared for. She only used a level 10 but because my hair is dark a level 20 should of been used. Even I knew that. Okay… fine…she’s a student. She says I can tone it at home. Ummm… okay. I probably will, but that’s why I’m getting my hair done. After 4 hours I got wet brassish hair and she and the other student quickly blow-dry it but they have to leave… since its 5pm and night shift comes in… okay? So I wait to see if they have another student to finish drying and curling my hair… luckily they do and she basically blow dries it and at this point I’ve sat the whole 5 hours from 1 to 6pm and I’m numb and I want to leave that I don’t care anymore. I pay with my Groupon and leave. I always tip though I felt a little dismayed. Don’t get me wrong, the students were nice and they were«students»…just be prepared to fix your own hair and allot for a double the average time to hair but for the Groupon deal… I guess it was worth a try and my color is ehhhh… okay. I’ll have to «fix» it myself but hey at least I still have hair. Lol.

I got there and they told me that the person who was originally going to do my hair had left. After 30 mins a guy with blonde highlights came to get me. I got the marula oil service, and my hair felt pretty soft. I could tell my the way he was handling my hair that it wasn’t going to be a good outcome, I was still patient with him though. He was touching my hair like he was scared of it, he tried to blow dry it with out combing it etc. I told him he was being to rough with the bore bristle brush so then he switched to a paddle brush. Once he was done blow drying, he proceeded to flat iron my hair. He failed miserably. My hair kept curling up and he blamed it on the fact that my roots were too kinky. He said that he felt bad but there was nothing he could do with my hair. I wasted 3 hours of my life in this place and I won’t be returning. The services I want were deep condition, flat iron, and trim. All I got was the deep condition and it wasn’t spread thoroughly throughout my hair because as I said he was maneuvering as though he was scared. He didn’t get down and penetrate my hair follicles. I was still nice and told him that it was okay. Even though it clearly wasn’t. On top of that I went to the front desk to pay for the service and the lady tried to still have me pay for ALL of them even though I didn’t receive ALL of them. The guys name was Shaun and he asked me if this always happened to my hair, I responded by saying«no, I’ve never seen my hair in this state. I’m hoping he stays in school for long than the 10 months he plans on going because he needs to learn everything from scratch. What made it worse was that he said he had been doing hair for 8 years.

I came in happy with a smile on my face and an open mind. Even after several red flags I still was excited to get my hair done and determined to enjoy the experience… But they managed to suck the life and joy out of the whole room. Would never come back, not recommend. Mainly because of the attitudes of the teachers and that flows down into the students they are training. Not mindful, not caring, treating people like they are manikins and don’t care if they fry out your hair or even if they highlights get anywhere close to the root of hair. The first stylist wouldnt even talk to me for the first 30 min and when I asked her if she ever gave highlights before to a person she said no. The only reason I asked her in the first place was because she seemed so uninterested in doing my hair or even being there in the first place. Asked for a different stylist who was very nice but couldn’t do anything because the trainer told her to do it a different way with different colors then I asked for. Cost as much as a actual salon with all of their add ons and terrible service and all over experance. Everyone that left had a scowl on their face. How could this be a school that teaches the next generation of hair stylist? My hair looked 10 times better before I went in. I ended up leaving after getting soaked from head to toe twice when my hair was getting washed out and the trainer decided that would be a good time to go on break so another trainer ended up signing the stylist out. DONOTGOHERE…

May 6, 2016 Hello, I’m so glad I found this page. I live in Sacramento California and have been going to the PM school for years to get my Virgin hair washed and blown dry. This past Friday I went in to get highlights for the first time and expressed to the girls how nervous and unfamiliar I was to the whole process. I had a picture in hand and told the ladies specifically that the color in the picture was what I wanted in my hair. Not only did they NOT give me the color, but they bleached my hair and put a completely different color then the one expressed. What should have been a rich honey Brown is now a dirty blonde greenish yellow color. And to make matters worse, the instructor said well we felt that this color better suites your face and skin tone. May 13, 2016 Went back today to have my color corrected. I must say I am very pleased with the outcome. Will return for a deep conditioning shortly to ensure the best care for my newly treated hair.

They rock :) So far, every time I went, I had my own very skilled«future professional» who was well supervised by a mentor and everyone was very friendly. The hair cuts and color was very cheap but well executed. I went for the«VIP» card at the first visit, and so far, it has only had great effects(like 10% off and such perks). Today’s haircut could have gone bad(lots of hair cut off in a modern style) but they nailed it. Yay for the Paul Mitchell School :)

I love Marwa!!! She’s so amazing and did such a great job on my hair. It was a simple cut and root touch up but she made it so enjoyable and is an absolute delight. I’m definitely going back to see her!

The worst experience ever. The instructor helped the student through most of the cut so I was impressed at first. I was very specific on my haircut. Happy e length in front and shorter in back. After the cut was done. I have shorter hair in front and it looks like w mullet. I will never go back. I don’t know who is training who. Thanks for the worst but ever

I wanted to save some money on a haircut and highlight and came across a great deal at The Paul Mitchell school. I expected the results wouldn’t be PERFECT, the students are learning after all. They are«practicing» after all. While there I couldn’t really see how bad my hair had turned out. I would not ask for a refund. I am going to go there and talk to the instructor about the problems with my hair, so this student(who is graduating soon) isn’t sent into the world thinking she’s ready. She is not. 1) When making my appt. I asked how long I’d be there. She said my cut/highlight was simple and would be pretty quick. I expected a few hours. I was there 4.5 hours. The stylist took 2 hours to wrap my hair in foils(I have fine hair just past shoulder length). She had offers from 2 different girls to help wrap, and refused. It took 30 minutes just to blow dry my fine, shoulder length hair. 2)(THISWAS A HUGETURN-OFF) When other students talked to her, my stylist rolled her eyes and said they annoy her and she doesn’t like interacting with them. She said just wants to do her own thing and doesn’t want them to talk to her. I found that to be unprofessional. 3) My haircut was so uneven I had to go the next day and have it «repaired». The right side of my hair was 2 – 3 inches shorter than the left. I could not see it at the time because she awkwardly attempted to curl it. The instructor did not look at my hair cut. The stylist that repaired it just kept shaking her head. I had to have 2 inches cut off the length just to make it even. 4) For the highlight– the foils were too far from my roots. I know they can’t get right up to the scalp, but there was 1.5 inches of my dark roots still showing, while the back of my hair was turned almost platinum blonde. She took 2 hours just to wrap the foil. The back pieces had bleach on them for so long that the hair is almost see-through it’s so white. The top and sides of my hair didn’t process completely so they are yellow not blonde. There were about 8 foils that had slipped or bled and made cheetah type spots. The stylist pointed them out and said«there is a couple of holidays from checking the foils». She called the instructor over and pointed it out; instructor said to mix some color that was close to my natural and dab on the«holidays» so they weren’t as noticeable. No highlights around my face, just my old highlights with dark roots. I left there with dark roots, several different colors of blonde highlights and dots. I went to sally beauty supply to buy bleach and made a few pieces look a little better by applying some to the bad spots. I can’t afford to go to another salon right now to have the highlight fixed. I feel like this stylist hasn’t been sufficiently trained. The instructors walked by several times but didn’t check anything. This stylist is very confident and it scares me that she thinks she’s doing a great job. I should have listened to the little voice in my head warning me not to go to a beauty college. It is WELL worth the $ to go to an experienced stylist. I would only recommend using the Paul Mitchell School if you have TONS of time, and don’t mind letting the students get your hair«almost» right. Lesson learned!

Ok well I have been cutting my hair for years and now that its getting longer its harder to get the back straight so thought why not try out the school here since a friend and fellow Unilocaler of mine has been a few times and told me about the great deal they have. So if you buy the VIP thing for $ 40 for Level 2 stylists you get free hair cuts for a full year. It includes a wash with scalp massage, cut or trim and style. So you probably thinking wow well then why only 3 stars? Well its not because of the stylists or the friendly front desk staff(they were great) but the process was 2 ½ hours from appointment time(when I arrived) till I walked out the door so it isn’t a quick thing. I knew that after going with my friend, who only got a tiny trim and a quick dry and that took over about 2 hours, that mine wouldn’t be any faster since I was thinking of actually having them do more than a trim depending on how comfortable I felt with whomever I got. If you have the time and aren’t in a hurry this is a fabulous deal I will certainly go back even though I wasn’t too thrilled with the cut I received. It might be a great deal to just go get a bang trim and then you get the wash and style and maybe have them style you with some curls or something different. I think thats what I will do next time and try a different stylist. Oh the teachers are right there too so they will go through the cut after and fix or correct and they are there observing and instructing the stylist to do things correctly as well. So as long as you pay attention and speak up there should be no crying moments. LOL I however was kinda tired by the 2 hour mark and when they finally got to my bangs they ended up a bit on the short side… so that will be fun to deal with for a few weeks LOL. But hell it all grows back eventually and you are helping a student practice and learn so its a win win.
