I really wanted to like this place and for reasons I definitely did. The people there were so nice and had beautiful local art hung up everywhere. I got the crab cakes with fries and salad. The salad was good, the fries had a good taste but were greasy. But the reason I’m posting is that the Crab cakes… Were made with imitation crab! I was shocked I wanted to like them so much Cuz it’s hard to find good local food. But it wasn’t cheap and it was fake crab ‚(such a disappointment.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. The ambiance is great for the artsy type and just for those who want to sit and chit chat for a bit. The environment encourages you to sit down and just relax. The food was good but I had just way too much sweetness for my palate. I needed some tartness but it was a good healthy meal – shrimp tacos with a side salad. Also the lady who served me was great. Very mellow and was very helpful with any questions I had. A great lunch experience.

Off the Hook is just that! Off the hook. The ambiance is fantastic. Very clean and comfortable. I love the art work and the fact that they feature local artists. We went to celebrate my mothers birthday and what a celebration it was. Tanya was very welcoming and Andre’s cooking is exceptional. You must try the Honey Ginger tea and the crab cakes. We will be back.

Off the Hook is literally off the hook! All of the food is exceptional, especially the crab cakes and the salmon plate. I love everything about this oasis including the food, the owners, the cooks, the servers, the ambiance, the live music, the décor and the Love! They are very capable of handling large parties and we have had several events there from birthday parties to graduation parties. They also have great desserts.

Off the hook told me a story. It was like when we first had to pay rent and get a job, when we were young and hungry for good taste but no one had anything to offer. We had Mc Donalds, we had Denny’s, but we did not have a place that cared for our inner needs for culture, art, and good taste. With«Off the Hook» we have something in the neighborhood that is expensive but not expensive. We have taste, culture and art and at little cost really. Off the hook is warm, romantic and fun actually. The food is good and the service is personalized. Go see it for yourself.

We had a great dinner experience tonight. We had the Catfish Nuggets and Seafood Sampler and were very impressed. Great flavors and fresh veggies. Please give this neighborhood gem a chance, you will be pleased!

Off the beaten path, but worth the trip! Excellent Brunch, Beautiful and«tastefully» decorated interior, Gracious Host and Staff. My daughter and I had a beautiful brunch that started with a mango bellini, assorted fruit and tasty bite size muffins, crab cakes & mixed green salad, followed by a beautifully plated and delicious entrée. My daughter had the catfish nuggest and waffle and I had the swai fish entrée. We ended our meal with the house speciality ginger lemon tea. Highly recommend becasue the service and food are OFFTHEHOOK!

Sunday Brunch was absolutely delightful. Mango Bellini, baked goods, fruit, salad with crab cake, veggie frittata, cheesy grits, cat fish nuggets and waffles — you will not leave hungry! Beautifully decorated, delicious food and charming owner; I will definitely return.

I called one Saturday evening to check their hours. Tanya stayed open for us! The food was great and we were the only customers in the restaurant. We have to support this great business.

Let me start this off by saying, I should probably give them 2 stars but my conscience won’t let me. Here is how my experience went… Ambiance: The restaurant is designed as a more upscale eating environment, so you have glass tops with glassware and table cloths. There is soft music playing in the background and simple and classy decorations around the room.(I don’t believe there is any AC though). The menu: On Sundays they do a set brunch for $ 25.00. You get a lot of food with it. You start with some fresh fruit and a small assortment of mini muffins, then move on to small, mixed starter salad and a crab cake, you are able to chose from about 5 different options for your entrée. They offer a peach bellini and a house made honey, ginger green tea for a beverage(not included in the $ 25). The Food: The starters were great! The fruit was very fresh and the muffins were tasty. The salad was really good but some of us had more dressing than others. Mine was dressed a little too heavy while my friends had barely any on it at all.(easy fix). The crab cake was really really good. It’s a nice size a filling. Me and my friend ordered the chicken and waffles for our entrée, while her husband ordered the catfish nuggets and waffles. It comes with the 2 pieces of chicken(handful of catfish nuggets, good amount), 1 waffle cut in half, a side of cheesy grits, and a vegetable frittata. –The waffle was just a waffle. Mine was burnt on the bottom. Reminiscent of the kind you would find at like a hotel continental breakfast where you have to make it one of the actual waffle makers. –The chicken was over done. It was cooked for way too long and tasted burnt. We asked for it to be remade, which they gladly obliged. But it came out the same way again. It was just fried for too long and dry. What I did taste wasn’t seasoned. –The catfish nuggets were bland(per my friends husband) –The cheesy grits were good(I’m not a fan of them in general) but everyone else thought they were tasty. –The vegetable frittata was very flavorful and good. –The honey, ginger, iced green tea is AMAZING The Service: Our waitress was very nice and checked on us regularly. The owner(lady) came out and chatted with us for awhile about the restaurant and her story a bit which was nice. She is very, very nice. My ONLY gripe with her is that she tried to convince us that the chicken wasn’t burnt and that it was just the«seasoning» that made the chicken dark. She kept repeating this after the entire table said multiple times that the chicken was just over cooked. I’m black, I know fried chicken. If there was seasoning on the chicken then you can say that but it wasn’t even really seasoned, period. Don’t debate with me. Overall, I may give the place one more chance because it does have great promise and potential.

OK, all I’ve tried so far are the fresh homemade crab cakes, and for this item they deserve 5-stars! I have tried crab cakes at dozens of places(it’s perhaps my favorite indulgence), and these are among the best I’ve ever had. And very reasonable too, for $ 10 you get 2 large cakes with fries and a gourmet salad. I’m used to paying $ 14 – 16 for 2 cakes by themselves as an appetizer at nice places, so I was pleased, to say the least. My wife and I are hooked on these now. She just brought some home and we made crab cake sandwiches on sourdough, with lettuce, tomato, a squeeze of lemon and the sauce they provide. OMG… Heaven!

This little gem is hidden in a part of Sacramento that seems to be forgotten about. I live nearby, so I tried them out. FIrst I must say the interior is gorgeous! You forget you’re on Del Paso Blvd.(smile) The owners are very welcoming and professional. Now, on to the food. Yes they pretty much fry everything! LOL so if you’re one of those that isn’t into fried food for whatever reason. this might not be the place for you. Sidenote, they do have a steamed dish, which I have not tried yet. The crab and salmon cakes are divine, they have a spicy slaw which is just that spicy! Overall its a good place to eat with traditional fried fish recipes, along with Chicken and Waffles, Catfish nuggets and Fish Tacos, just to name a few items. They have a nice brunch on Sundays with an occasional small Jazz ensemble. Oh, and let me not forget the Honey-Ginger Tea and Mango Bellini! Yum! I am huge supporter of this neighborhood and would like to see this business succeed, if you are near North Sacramento, please stop by and say hello to Andre, Barry & Tanya, you will be glad you came.
