My favorite sushi place in Sac! They always give complimentary edamame in the beginning of the meal to start you off. I always get the nigiri set and the amaebis. Some of the other things I tried that were great as well are the chirashi bowl, the firecracker roll, the spicy tuna and the hamachi green onion handrolls, and the chawamushi. They all were great trys but my favorite would probably be the two handrolls. I also heard the mussels here are bomb af but have not try them myself.

A great sushi spot in Sacramento. It’s in downtown near all the action so with so many choices it’s hard to settle on a place to eat. Looking at the menu, I’m impressed that they have so much to offer. They have your traditional Japanese appetizers, some upscale tapas, sushi rolls and sashimi as well. Food *Spicy Tuna Tartare — Comes in a nice portion. The tartare is flavorful with a side of chips. It’s also come with the egg on top to complement the tuna nicely. *Tesla — I loved this roll. My favorite touch on the roll is the garlic cream sauce. Not your everyday sauce on a sushi roll. The soft shell crab inside is very crunchy and the salmon and avocado on the outside works so well together. It’s a different roll and it’s delicious. It’s a must try. *Spicy B — a solid roll. Shrimp Tempura, spicy tuna, garlic, teriyaki, and chili suace. I couldn’t taste everything in the roll. And unfortunately because the 2 rolls i ordered, I could only taste the similarities from the other two. *Sunshine Roll — Best roll of the night. With so many elements packed into this roll, it’s hard to not be impressed. The roll has a sweet and savory bite. And to put the cherry on top, it’s soft on the inside and the outside of the roll has to crunch for some nice added texture to the roll. *Krazy Kali — The most disappointing on the night. After comparing to the 3 other rolls, I wonder how this one got on the menu. It’s a basic deep fried spicy ca roll and a dish full of sauce. This roll came out 10 minutes before the other rolls did. And there’s probably a reason for that(Don’t order this) * Miso Soup — Miso was delicious, good stuff. *House Made wasabi — Extra 2.50 but worth it, if u like wasabi. The service was great. For the most part it was speedy and our server had great energy. She consistently checked in with us and also had some great recommendations. If you happened to be craving sushi in sac, I would recommend heading here. There is a lot of finesse in their sushi rolls. So complements to the chef. If you like eating sushi rolls then you must try the rolls here. A lot of sushi places have your basic sushi rolls and just have fresh sashimi. I love seeing and tasting unique rolls. I also need to check out their lunch specials and try some of their desserts.

Beef tongue skewer — yummy! Love the sauce :) Spicy tuna tartare — this was good, but I wish there was more chips! Poke trio — presentation was good but it was a little over the top in terms of fanciness. Didn’t see the point of the various salt. Sashimi tapas — good selection of fresh sashimi Duck confit ramen — to be clear, it was more like a deep fried duck ramen. I was expecting the duck meat to be tender and juicy, but it was hard and dry :(

I ordered the hot ramen with pork belly and spicy miso broth and I loved it! The taste was just spot on and it satisfied my cravings. I’m definitely coming back here for that bowl of ramen again! The customer service was also excellent. I usually finish my cup of water and don’t get my refill until I’m basically finished with my meal, but they continuously refilled my cup for me immediately as I needed it. They also seated my date and I at a table a little too crowded near the neighboring table and we asked to be reseated at a more spacer area. They kindly had no problem with reseating us. Great job!

One of Sacramento’s best! Have been going here regularly for years & it never disappoints. A favorite sushi stop for friends & out of town guests. Consistently fresh, inventive Asian faire with artful presentations. Always get something from their daily specials! Recent sturgeon & mackerel sushi specials were incredible. Highly recommend the warm mushroom salad, calamari, lobster tempura, the kings roll, the spicy tuna roll, the firecracker, and duck confit ramen. Can’t go wrong with anything– you can create your own sushi combinations & even if you’re not a big fan of sushi, there’s something scrumptious(and cooked if you want) for every taste-bud. A happening place with excellent service & well-earned accolades. Be sure to make a reservation if planning a dinner visit.

Customer service needs work. The past 5 times I’ve ordered(or tried to) order takeout it’s been over an hour, this past week I called and they said they wouldn’t even do it at all, didn’t give the option to wait. Kru is the best sushi in town, and I know this app isn’t intended for takeout reviews. That said, I’d imagine hey are losing customers left and right and it seems like a large enough problem to work through. I’m commenting after yesterday’s call which was ‘we don’t do that’ re: takeout. Obviously the teams there are doing the best they can, but I find it so strange that they haven’t found a way to work through this. I have a handful of friends who have experienced the same thing and also will not be attempting to go back for dine-in or otherwise. Kru, you’re the best sushi out there, can you try to work this out?

Mmmm… Mmmmm… by far, this is one of the best sushi restaurant in Sac. We were seated immediately. The service was quick on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered sunshine roll, spicy b roll, tesla, duo of ribs, and sashimi mix. The sunshine roll has a hint of citrus and melts in your mouth. As for spicy b roll, this is spicy and flavorful. Tesla is okay. I would say it is dried and lacking on favor. The duo of ribs is soft and tendered as you take a bite. My favorite one is the sashimi mix. Every piece was so delicious. Décor is nice and relaxing. They have two rooms with plenty of seats. Parking is on the street. We didn’t have a problem with parking. Will be back to get my sushi fix.

Went to midtown to get Rick’s and ended up getting dinner at Kru. Spontaneity has its perks. Food: We started off with the Kings Roll. Honestly, the best specialty roll we’ve ever had. Why? The versatility and uniqueness of this roll was beyond compare. All of the senses involved with eating were pleased. Aesthetics — killed it. The roll was composed of lobster tempura, crab, lemon, avocado, spicy cream sauce, cilantro, shrimp, etc. Usually when you have a roll with a ton of ingredients, it’s really difficult to gauge whether everything is really in there. With each bite I tasted hints of the lemon, cream sauce, cilantro, lobster, etc. The fact that everything complimented each other was so satisfying considering the variety in ingredients. Healthy portions of lobster, shrimp and crab. Worth the price($ 16.00). I ordered the lamb ramen with spicy miso. Overall, the ramen was okay, not the best or worst I’ve had. The broth was wonderful, but I like it a bit spicier so I added chili oil. I wasn’t too happy with the quantity of lamb, but the quality is exceptional… so I guess it balanced it out. Noodles were great, but the bowl was mostly broth. Wish it had a bit more veggies and protein. My boyfriend had the pork belly ramen which is what I should have ordered. The pork is extremely tender and exquisite. You can tell the quality of all of their ingredients is above par. Service: Busy Sunday night, but our server was diligent in attending us and also very friendly. Ambiance: Warm and cozy! Décor is a bit weary, yet cunning. Large dining area in the back portion of the restaurant. Busy, but calm overall. Price: Steep, but quality and taste of food is very prevalent. Overall: Friendly service, reasonable prices and aesthetically pleasing, tasty and unique menu! Can’t wait until my next visit!

Came here for an anniversary dinner and was not disappointed! We ordered the chirashi bowl, as well as lobster tempura and hokkaido scallop nigiri. Everything was delicious– and as mentioned in previous reviews, the freshly grated wasabi was delicious. This place had the air of a hipstery sushi place but the presentation and freshness justified the décor. Definitely would recommend!

I have been here 4 times and it’s been a pleasant experience every time. The customer service and food have been great! Kru’s offers a large variety of fresh seafood and I enjoyed the Japanese uni a whole lot. The duck ramen and pork belly also tasted great. I’d definitely return in the future.

Food: Excellent! Ordered Sashimi, a roll of which I do not recall the name and the highlight of the night… Belt Fish Nigiri!!! Booyah! That stuff is bomb! The sashimi was fresh, the roll was decadent, bla bla lets get back to the belt fish. I had never tried this before and it is absolutely delicious. Imagine soft creamy Mackerel minus the funk. They dotted it with a soft sweet mustard. Absolutely perfect. Oh and the honorable mention was the authentic chopped wasabi root. Very very nice touch to the sashimi. This place is a must try. Service: Great! Friendly, prompt and ready to explain things for us. Our waiter made sure I didnt dunk my delicious belt fish into my standard soy wasabi bath

The food here was absolutely awesome! They received five stars for having great food, but I had to take away one just for the wait time. Now let’s get onto the review. Pros: the fish is absolutely fresh and amazing. We both ordered Chirashi. They were $ 29 each, which was a little bit on the expensive side. On the menu it stated that 15 items are on the Chirashi. I have to say that I was impressed with the presentation and the quality of the food. Cons: 1. The wait time in between was extremely long. I think we waited some 30 minutes to get our main course. That was definitely a downer. 2. There

I already knew how this place was from my friends’ posts. Portions small and pretty pricey. I’m guessing«contemporary» means«fancy». We got there, and were greeted by the chefs. We didn’t have a reservation, so they placed us in the back, in an empty room, near the bathroom. Out of the whole room, they place us near the bathroom. Okay… The tables in the place are super small. I also think contemporary means small. Whatever. We went there for happy hour to celebrate our boyfriends’ new jobs. Our friends wanted to go there because the food was good. Even the happy hour wasn’t worth it. Each dish was good for ONE person. There was four of us sharing each plate. We ordered several times. We had the chicken lettuce wraps, red lotus roll, spicy tuna hand roll, chicken karange(?), and some other tiny plates. I liked the red lotus roll, but it didn’t give me the WOW factor. It was deep fried spicy tuna, it seemed like. The lettuce warps were okay. Very messy, very sweet. The teriyaki overpowered everything. The hand roll, please PLEASE do not order this! It’s a joke! I’d rather spend that money on a real dish. The karange or whatever was okay. It tasted like KFC. We had like 4 round of beers and my bf got their sangria. The waitress made it sound amazing and that it was to share. However, it came in a glass. It also had a weird taste. Had some alcohol taste, lemon, then gone. Huh? We all had a «wtf?!» look on our faces after trying it. Not sweet enough. It just disipated hella quick. The service. Oh man, what can I say about the service. I’m guessing they just hire good looking people who don’t have experience in customer service. No smile. No sense of humor. Just there to get work done. Okay, you’re in the service industry. Please learn to be friendier. When we had like 15 minutes til happy hour ended, our waitress was nowhere to be found! I guess they usually do this, so if you’re there for happy hour and you want to take advantage of their happy hour, you gotta get up and get somebody to take your order before 6pm. Overall, I wouldn’t come back. Contemporary meals I guess mean expensive and small portion. Service sucked. Dishes were a tad above mediocre, but I’m not coming back. Please work on your staff’s customer service. Thanks!

I can see why a lot of people like this place the fish is very fresh and delicious. I came here with a party of 5 no reservations the wait was about 10 minutes. Once we got to our table our server greeted us, a nice gentleman who told us about their daily/weekly specials. We kinda knew what we wanted. We ordered a few items salad, bone marrow, ramen, sashimi combo, sushi rolls, etc… I understand we ordered items from the kitchen and sushi bar but JEEZZZ the food took forever! The plates were hitting the table one by one, to a point where I was done eating. We ended up taking half of our dishes to go. The staff is extremely nice and super attentive but my biggest complaint is the wait on the food. If you’re starving and looking for a quick meal this place is probably not for you. Although I would say, it is a great place for date night. Would I return? My sister loves Kru, so probably only with her. The place is a little pricey, but the quality makes up for it.

Came here because I wanted some quality Japanese food and I was not let down. This place is amazing. I came in knowing that it was on the pricey end so I wasn’t surprised that our bill totaled to be more than our usual Japanese meals. But I think that the price was well-justified by the top-notch quality food. The environment is casual/semi-fancy. They have a sushi bar in the front but they have a quieter section in the back as well. Service was great, the waitresses were really accommodating and really took their time explaining each item to us. The panko-crusted salmon was to die for. One of the best dishes we had that night. It had spicy crab remoulade on the bottom. The slices of salmon was cooked just right(crispy on the edges but raw in the middle) If you like fish, you should get the hamachi-kama! The fried fish was very fresh, clean and crisp. We also got the Firecracker Roll. Their rolls weren’t all that great, but this one had some special tangy sauce. Not the best thing on the menu, but worth trying. The BEST thing we got… was the blue fin tuna nigiri(cho-toro). Even though it was $ 15 for 2 pieces, I didn’t regret getting it because it was SO good. It literally melted in my mouth and the fish was super fresh. I mean their sashimi in general were all really good but I think their blue fin tuna was one of the best they offered. I would definitely come back again(maybe after I save up a little bit)! Make sure you make a reservation on weekends, they seem to be packed.

So this place had major hype so I wanted to see if this place was worth it! My parents, sister, my my cuz said this place was one of the best sushi pads around!!! Even my boy Eddie from Taka sushi told me to try it! We came on a Saturday and beat the rush but still had to wait roughly 15 minutes… No problem! However the hostess informed us that our table is ready but we had to leave by a certain time because of a reservation!!! You kidding me? We were on a time limit??? That’s bullshit… But she informed us we would have and hour and a half to eat which is legit… We ordered the bone marrow and duck ramen for appetizers… The bone marrow was extremely tasty and rich in flavor! It came with toasted bread which mixed perfect with the marrow! The marrow was so rich in flavor, you had to mix the bread! The ramen was probably the most disappointing… However the broth was slightly spicy, there wasn’t much noodles in the HUGE bowl but the duck was crispy and has good flavor! But for the $ 15 for a bowl of ramen is slightly over the edge! We ordered two rolls… I ordered a roll where I created which is the«build your own,» and I included shrimp tempura, crab meat, avocado, and green apple… And the whole roll deep fried! It was pretty good by I enjoy the rolls at Ju Hachi by Taka better… My lady ordered the modified spicy B roll… And the white tuna was the best tuna we tasted… Sooooo fresh and it melted in your mouth! Wow!!! Overall, it was pretty good… So much hype yet i feel Ju Hachi by Taka is just as good! Kru deeply cares about presentation… Which is cool but I care about taste and quantity! Service was pretty good… Friendly and hard working! I will be back definitely to try again!!!
