This place is now closed. I went by there a couple of days ago and they are now a native American store. Not sure if they moved or just closed shop

Info I had seen online indicated this place carried pipes. Chubby fella couldn’t be bothered to pull the stogie from his mouth to inform me that he no longer carries pipes. «Used to carry ‘em. Funny, now that I don’t carry ‘em, everybody comes in asking for ‘em.» Then I thought to myself, «Funny, that’s the second thing that shows me that you have no business acumen.» I get the distinct impression the only reason this guy has a cigar shop is to be able to smoke at work all day. I’m not saying he was unfriendly or curt. Just that it felt like him smoking his cigar was the most important thing. Anything else is an interruption.

I love looking for and buying empty cigar boxes. I like their feel in my hand and they make great storage boxes for various stuff that I many or may not ever see or use again. I spotted Jon’s Front Street Tobacconist on the way back to the Embassy Suites and decided to stop in. There’s an overhead sign on the sidewalk and the shop itself is the 2nd one on the right. It’s basically a small air conditioned room with a lot of selection per square foot and a guy at the counter with a big stogie in his mouth. It almost made me want to light up myself, but a settled for a couple nice flat boxes at $ 2 each. The next time I’m in Old Sacramento, I’ll probably stop by to take another look.

What. ME? At a Tobocco Shop? Yes, on rare occasions! SITREP Lunch time wanderings take me to Old Sacramento where I can wander in and take in the… interesting accessories… one finds in such stores. I am always looking for unique & bizarre lighters for all purposes. SET-UP This has(how shall we say) just about every imaginable device needed to BURN dried leafy substances to the smoker’s enjoyment. I should preface this by saying that I am NOT even close to a regular smoker, though you WILL catch a few times a month loitering outside with the goth kids smoking DJARUM clove cigarellos available here. I also love the selections of pipes(and the smell of pipe smoke). In fact, I often fancy myself sometime in the sunset years of my life sitting in a swanky leather chair, in some den, paneled with endless bookcases FILLED with many many tomes. NOT there yet… THELOWDOWN Quaint. Charming. A perfect fit into the vibe of Old Sacramento, and a great place to look for a smoke and all that entails.

This place was completely forgettable. Their pipe tobacco selection was slim at best, and they were totally out of all their bulk pipe tobaccos. They don’t have much of any selection of pipes, and their cigars are mostly out of stock. The shop is also dirty, and rundown. I can’t recommend going here at all.

Not a bad place except their cigar stock always seems to be low. Wonderful selection of pipe tobacco, ciggarette tobacco, and chew. Lots of different styles of briar/merschaum pipes for sale. Been in there a few times and the good cigars always seem to be sold out… all the time. House brands are always in stock but they don’t seem to be worth the wrapper they came in. They are situated in a great location with all of the tourist traffic, but with such a crappy cigar selection it doesn’t really help them any.
