I always keep donation centers in the back of my mind because I always seem to have accumulated stuff at home that I no longer have use for. Instead of throwing perfectly usable items away and needlessly adding to the landfill situation, my hopes are that someone else can make use of them instead. Clothes and shoes are often things that get overpopulated at my house. It does take some time and energy to go through my things and I usually have a bag or box started. Parting with the old sometimes takes some psychological convincing though. But recently, I got a reality check when some neighbors had to move from their long time residence because of a sad hospice situation that forced them to move out of state and closer to a medical facility. A lot of household items were left behind and they asked us for some help to throw stuff away, keep or donate. It’s times like this when you realize how unimportant belongings are, when ones health is a priority. We noticed this new Goodwill donation center had opened just across the street from my neighborhood. After loading up the truck, we went directly to the facility. As we backed in to one of the parking spaces in front of the store, a nice man immediately came out and greeted us. He gave me a donation receipt to use as a write off for taxes and proceeded to help unload all the items. His name was Andre B. and had a very likable personality. Joe K. and he started talking sports of all kinds and I almost thought a bromance was in the works. Ha! Ha! Anyway, Andre made the whole unloading ordeal smooth and easy. Now that this place is so easily accessible, I don’t have much excuse to put off clearing away my old things…
