Even though this food source is not in the best neighborhood, you cannot beat the friendliness of the employees and the low prices. I’ve been shopping here for the past 10 years and have seen some major improvements. I’ve seen a deep store cleaning, new paint job and new services such as recycling, redbox and coinstar. There is plenty of parking in this food source lot. The chase bank and Walgreens are also near this store. FYI, there’s a safe credit union ATM located in this store.

cheap but ghetto. The veggies are super affordable, but the meat didn’t look so great

Busy, busy, busy and prices are reasonable but Grocery Outlet has better deals in Midtown.

This place is ghetto as hell. I shopped at the Rancho Cordova location for a long time before ever setting foot in here. I expected it to be about the same, it’s much much worse. The food offerings are pretty identical but the people who shop here are disgusting. Good luck getting in and out without being approached for money ATLEAST once. The fruits and vegetables are crap and don’t last at all. You get what you pay for. The Oak Park Farmers Market is right down the street, why would you ever come here with that available to you? The people who work here are pretty unfriendly and not helpful for the most part. The security guard is a dick. He obviously failed the police exam because he takes every opportunity to be a jerk and boss around anyone and everyone. Keep trying maybe you can be another jerk with a gun someday, just what we need. The cops tend to avoid this area so if something goes down they may or may not actually respond. A friend of mine was surrounded and followed to her car and it almost was a very bad situation. There was a cop car already out front of the store and no one did anything. Long story short, if you want to keep your blood on the inside avoid at all costs.

This location may seem a bit shady and not very inviting from the outside, but it is actually pretty alright. They have real selection of fruits and veggies, like cheap priced Kale, good price on potatoes, etc. We usually go to WinCo, but this is just around the corner, and we aren’t sacrificing much. Give it a shot!

They do not carry good quality vegetables. Bit over priced for the quality. I found winco much cheaper and better compare to them.

I decided to try out this grocery store given the flyers that were sent to my house advertised some very inexpensive fruits and veggies. This is located on the corner of sad and up-and-coming, so there is a variety of people who shop here. Roaming up and down the isles, it reminded me of a warehouse store, plus grocery store. I passed not one, not two, but 3 individuals that were having a very very good day, a 420 kind of day. LOL True, the fruits and veggies can be a good price, but this is not top tier produce. I did buy some onions at $ 1 for 5 pounds! Cannot beat that! The rest of the store has some bargains, but also regular prices. Cereal for example is at the higher price end, but the dairy case was perhaps 20% less expensive than say, Raleys. Frozen food was limited, but again, this is not a specialty store so I should not be too picky. The cashier was nice, and you do bag your own groceries. On a funny note, the music was loud and rockin’. I did a little dance and shimmy in the drink aisle until a woman with a cart said«EXCUSEME!» very loudly. :-)

Food Source is a couple steps down the food chain in the world of grocery stores. A warehouse-like environment with a lot of strange brand names and items you’d be more apt to seeing on the shelves of a grocery store in Mexico. But their lack of flair and brand names is made up for by cheap prices and a great selection. Most appealing to me is their vast produce section. A ton of fruits and vegetables at cheaper-than-average pricing. The canned goods selection isn’t too shabby either. This is a lower end store that looks to appeal to bargain shoppers, so if you can get pass the lack of ambiance you’d find at a Whole Foods or Safeway, you’ll still find everything you’re looking for.

This is a decent grocery. It’s right by my house yay for living in oak park lol. As many have mentioned, yes this is the ghetto, and yes you will be asked for money from some loser eventually. I’m just as crazy as them so they don’t bug me hah. I seen one bum putting groceries in a woman’s car and she didn’t even ask for help lulz. It’s cool that walgreens is right next to it too. Nice little place to reup.

Large box type grocery store. Good prices overall. Do wish the meat dept. had a greater selection of cuts instead of catering to the BBQ crowd a lot. Well stocked with fruit and veggies. Over stocked with dry goods and cans. Early in he A.M. is the time to go. Afternoon the parking lot is as another reviewer put, «circus» with the crowd you would normally find outside sloshing around a really low budget Dive Bar on the outskirts of an unincorporated section of town. Staff are always courteous as they can be, especially the Dept. Heads and cashiers. Shop there 4x a month for the past few years. Never been there at night. Might want to bring a tail gunner if you do.

One time a guy waiting outside the store said he’d pee on my car unless I gave him one of the donuts I bought. So in a way, you have to pay for parking at Food Source. Only been here a few times for the location, not much going for FS otherwise. The produce has had an odd habit of looking okay when purchased but falling apart really fast. Over half the avocadoes I’ve bought here turned out to be inedible and strange looking inside. Also, interestingly for a place that tries to come off as really cheap, I’d say most things are within a rounding error of Trader Joe’s prices. So what’s the point of dealing with all the extra baggage that seems to come with Food Source? This would include the long, slow lines and the interesting characters other reviews have pointed out.

I can’t always afford to shop soley at the places I’d prefer to, so I come to Food Source a couple times a month for the basics and consider it a pretty solid grocery store. There is always enough parking but holy shit, the parking lot is a circus. There are always people parking crazy, people sitting in or loiting on their cars looking shady as shit, homeless people and people in scrubs wandering around asking for money, and inexplicably angry cholas without eyebrows or time for your bullshit. Bow your head, lock your car, and run for the entrance. It’ll be okay. For the most part, the crazy stays in the parking lot. I love the produce section. They have a great selection and some of the best prices I’ve seen. No, it’s probably not organic or local. Do you want to make it to pay day or not? I can usually buy enough produce to cook meals and snack for like two weeks for less than $ 20. And I eat a lot of vegetables. Their bakery is surprisingly good. I love their fresh sourdough loaves, dinner rolls, and they even make small sourdough loaves that are perfect for bread bowls. Also in the bakery section is their $ 4 rotisserie chickens. A great deal, and they are always good. Their seafood section is unimpressive unless you like catfish, but I regularly score great deals on decent-but-not-wonderful steaks, ground turkey, and meat that is already cut up for stew. You can also find reasonable prices on other perishable basics like cheese, lunchmeat, milk, eggs, juice, etc. Their canned food and some of their boxed dry goods are more expensive than the same stuff at Safeway or Target, for some weird reason, but they have a good selection if you don’t want to make multiple stops. Skip buying housewares, toiletries, and cleaning supplies here as they are weirdly expensive and they have a crappy selection. Surprisingly good prices on beer and wine(hello $ 7 Old Vineyard Bogle), but not so great prices on liquor. There is always a line, and the employees are friendly enough but clearly just waiting for their shift to be over. You will have to bag your own groceries, and make sure you double bag or bring your own bags, because their bags are made out of wishful thinking and imagination. I’ll be back once my milk expires.

This place is horrible — and did you know Food Source is part of the Raley’s company of grocers? Anyway, please do not take your business here. Let me tell you why. My husband and I are both bicyclists and live nearby. One day my husband went there, on his bicycle, and had a backpack to carry his groceries in on the way home. He also goes to school, and had his laptop in his bag. The security guard stopped him and told him he couldn’t take his bag in. He said he could take the bag and hold it. My husband refused. We have both worked in retail and we have both seen companies request to hold your bags but then hold no responsibility if they are stolen while in their possession. The security guard used cuss words like«f*ck» and«sh*t.» He was extremely disrespectful towards my husband. My husband decided we needed groceries enough he would leave his bag. The security guard dropped it on the ground behind a counter! He had a laptop in there!(luckily it was fine, but OMG). My husband grabbed items quickly and asked the security guard for his bag at the end. The security guard continued to be rude while my husband tried to tell him that asking for his bag was uncalled for. My husband asked for the manager and the manager was rude as well! Basically like, this is our policy, deal with it or dont shop here! I made a complaint to the company, found out it is part of Raleys. Raleys said, to prevent theft we do not allow backpacks or large bags. SeriouslY!? A? If any of you are bicyclists… take your bicycles and bakcpacks to Safeway. They do not seem to have the same untrustworthy standards and rudeness that Food Source and Raleys do.

I used to come here all the time but since the management change over, the friendly customer service is gone. I still go since its cheap and around the corner but its always in and out, no friendly chat with the crew not that it matters I suppose, as long as I get my cheap prices, right? Pros: Pretty organized and clean. They have hard liqour now. Cons: They close at 11 now. They have the littlest woman in the world hauling the heavy train of carts into the store.

Low prices aplenty! It’s pretty clean and well organized! There’s some crazy ass people up in here! Good prices abound especially if you don’t care which brand of this or that you get. There are some great deals every time. The fruit can be very cheap, but really watch out for less than ideal ripeness and condition. It seems like it gets more beat up and they don’t go through it, it all just goes out on the shelf. Shop carefully and you can do great price and quality wise. And watch out for the crazy people. They are definitely out in force here.

What do crack heads and oversized families have in common? A love for FS! If you don’t mind the occasional crack head or families of 10 running around you, then you’re in it to win it! I kept getting distracted by the people watching gold mine, while also trying to take in all the low prices! I may have only been perusing the isles, but I did end up with a few things in my hand. If you aren’t so concerned with the all natural/organic stuff and pricing is key, then this is your spot. Some things that made me smile: — 18 eggs for $ 2.28 — 3 avocados for $ 1 — Mo’beta Odwalla $ 2 The lure of bagging your groceries still makes me giddy, like it did when I was 5. I don’t really know why, maybe because you never get to at a regular grocery store. And like everything else, we always want to do what we can’t do, aka bag groceries. So simple, yet so pleasing ;) It may take a little tough skin, but your wallet will not be burdened. Tons of brand names and decent prices. The trade off might not be worth if for some, but the occasional visit wouldn’t hurt anyone. I’ll take my cheap stuff with a side of crack head every once in awhile…

If you love crappy customer service, ugly produce, narrowly escaping a gang shooting, and crying babies with their meth-addicted moms ignoring them, check this place out! There’s a reason why there’s ALWAYS a police car or 3 parked out front. I’m a sucker for a bargain, so ignored all the reasons to stay away from this place for a long time, but aside from a few REALLY good employees, most of the people who work here are rude and/or indifferent, the customers are annoying, and the food is pretty bad. Saving a few bucks each trip is not worth it… even for cheapo’s like me. I’ll go to Target with coupons before I’ll go here.

I’ve read a majority of the reviews and I can say this: Having lived in Long Beach(the ghetto parts), this Food Source is not as ghetto as many people have described. No, its definitely not Bel Air, Raleys or Traders Joes but it’s semi-decent. This food source is located on the corner of Broadway and Stockton. I know a good amount of people who are students or residents of the UC Davis Medical School and go to Food Source for the value given our economic times. Depending on the time you go, parking and people can vary. I went here after work(around 3:30PM) and there was ample parking. Once you enter, you can definitely feel the vibe that the store is focused on value. It’s set up where the produce is directly in front of you when you enter the store. There is a good variety of produce and healthy options with larger produce items and sale items in the front plastered with huge sale signs. As mentioned in previous reviews, you have to be careful not to load up on highly processed items just because they’re cheap. Yes, I’m referring to TV dinners, potato chips and candy. Just say no. I went to the customer service counter(to the left of the produce center when you enter) to purchase some concert tickets that were being advertised in the local radio station. The lady behind the counter seemed very focused on making her«on sale» sign with colored markers. She was obviously very upset that I had distracted her artistic creativity and rolled her eyes when she saw that I needed help. She proceeded to help me but not without looking very unenthusiastic with the transaction, thanked me and went back to making her sign. I’m sorry that life sucks for you lady. What ever happened to friendly customer service? She should be happy she has a job. The rest of the store provides the typical economy grocery warehouse chain. Tons of bulk items if you need it and multiple lottery scratchers machines in the front of the store. I don’t think I will be back here for a long time(unless I need more concert tickets) just because I’d rather pay a bit more for the friendliness and better product.
