This is the place you go to if you want to dress up or not dress up, show off or hide out, socialize and or escape, all under a great sound system with DJs that play classic gothy hits, industrial favorites, and stompy-out-of-control high speed techno. The DJs take requests if you can find the notepad next to the DJ booth in darkness among the swirling flashing lights. And the door charge is super cheap, under $ 5! Drinks are super cheap too – $ 3 sometimes! One of my friends likes to call Factor 9 the«goth rave.» I couldn’t agree more. Someone is always wearing black and juggling light balls. Usually there is a hula-hooper(I think the hoops light up too), wearing black no doubt. I’ve seen magic canes on the dance floor and people who need canes to stand up and dance, and a few wheelchairs. In my book, it doesn’t get any better or obnoxious than this! It may not be for you but for many it’s a place they can be themselves or what they dream of being – it’s their thing – don’t judge.

Sunday Night Industrial Dance Mayhem & Fun! SITREP Pre-History. For nearly two(2) decades since 1994, The Asylum provided a strong core of the Gothic-Industrial-EBM music scene here in Sacramento. Based most recently out of the venue«BARCODE»(previously known as «THERAGE») located across from the Arden Faire Mall, The Asylum was a meeting place for lovers of this music format, from the foothills, up from Stockton, down from Chico and Redding, and even over from the Bay Area. HISTORY Originally begun & promoted by DJ Arnold, DJ Bryan Hawk came on board later on in 1994, and has been the only continuous DJ of The Asylum during the period from 1994 to 2012. Serving both as a club-forum for cutting edge music acts such as Hate Department and Savior, as well as hosting outstanding guest DJ stints, including Ken Wilson from Marilyn Manson, and Joe Letz from CombiChrist, The Asylum provided an excellent alternative music scene. THESETUP Child of The Asylum. When Barcode was razed to the ground in 2012 because of construction development, The Asylum found a new home for about a year at The Park Ultra Lounge @ 15th& L Streets. Eventually, The Asylum lost it’s home at The Park, and as a club event, the most sadly, The Asylum faded away… However, the spirit of The Asylum found new form when DJ Bryan Hawk re-founded this same Sunday club night, hosted now at Midtown Barfly, with the new branding of FACTORIX. FACTORIX Factor IX now continues this Alternative dance club legacy. It is a smaller scene, commensurate with the fact that it is in a smaller venue, but it is nice to see the same energy of this segment of the Sacramento music scene finding renewed life and continuing forward. THELOWDOWN Factor IX continues an enjoyable 20+ year music legacy here in Sacramento.
