The man who answers to phone when you call to ask about availability is the absolute rudest. He’s not just monotone or bored sounding. He is RUDE. First time I called from an online listing for the complex, he sounded like he hates everything, very grumpy, very curt. Second time i called, about a month later, same voice, not any better of an attitude, said that I called the wrong number, that they don’t have a listing for the complex online and actually claimed that I called his personal phone. I also checked the place out in person. It is very small and an absolute dump. Don’t bother unless u r equipped to put up with all this bs.

Roaches galore! No surprise, since they don’t maintain the property. Cottage Square puts tenants’ lives at risk by refusing to keep electrical in good, working condition and concurrently failing to have the legally-required working smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors in every apartment. Bare wires and faulty outlets abound!(try every plug and switch before you think of renting here– you’ll see for yourself when the outlets cave into the wall and short out. Check behind the refrigerator and stove for dangling wires instead of outlets, seriously!). Open the cabinets above the stove and refrigerator and you will find holes and bare wires and wood that blocks the use of the cabinets. When you call the manager, Tonee, to request maintenance he will call screen and avoid you for as long as he can. He’s fine with you going without power and heat or having an unabated leak or a roach infestation. If you persist, he’ll tell you to fix it yourself or just make up a time that someone will be there and no one shows up at that time to do the repair. He will tell you they do bug spray every two weeks, but«forget» to put you on his non-existant list and your roaches will have great-great grandchildren before anyone shows up to spray. Love roaches? this is the place for you! It’s hard to decide what the worst part of living at Cottage Square was: lack of maintenance, refusal to respond to repair requests, being lied to by management about when/if things will be done, the roach infestations, or the general attitude that the only thing the owner and/or manager cares about is collecting rent. The tenants are in the habit of doing their own repairs because they can’t get anything out of the owner or manager. In a word: slumlord. If you dare to complain, be prepared for the harassment campaign which includes such illegal activities as providing a copy of your front door key to another tenant. Don’t believe them when they say it’s new management and/or ownership and everything is being turned around. That’s how they got me to sign a rental agreement. Lots of promises to put things in proper condition– never done. Needless to say I couldn’t tough this place out when it became clear that the only one that thought they were going to fix things was me. Three months after moving in, they still hadn’t replaced a missing kitchen cabinet, repaired a 1′ hole in the wall or replaced the missing kitchen flooring. Meanwhile, I had to hire an electrician when I lost my heat and electricity(to the tune of $ 500) and they didn’t fix it. They have yet to reimburse me. I could keep going about the shorted lights in the bathroom, the leaking garbage disposal, the dangerous stove, the missing screens, the rattling ceiling fan, the few inch holes in walls, the stained carpet, etc. but I think I’ve made my point long ago: this is not a good place to even consider. I took the time to give the owner an opportunity to make things right, and he declined to do so. This place won’t change until it gets sold altogether.
