Canton House

After I picked my dad up from the hospital, we went to go get something to eat. He was hungry from his overnight stay at Mercy General. We came across this place, which is down the street from Mercy General hospital. When we entered, the owner politely greeted us and told us to sit wherever we want.
My dad ordered the chef’s special, seafood fried rice, which is fish, shrimp, and calamari. On the recommendation from the owner, I went for the dinner special, Kung Pao Beef, which is served with spring roll, fried rice, and chow mein.
While the dishes are on the pricey side, the portions are huge! I was surprised by how much beef, chow mein, and fried rice they gave me. And, yes, I ate it all! No doggie bag of leftovers for me. I ate everything that was put in front of me at the dining table.
The owner made it a point to come over to our table and refill our glasses whenever our water was low. The décor is simple: decorative lamp lights, a few paintings on the walls, and a flat screen TV. We had a nice dinner on a Friday evening at Canton House.

If I could give no stars I would. I stopped trying after a two or three bites. It was absolutely DISGUSTING.

i ordered the sizzling rice soup to go. Everywhere else i’ve ordered this soup it comes with shrimp as a standard, which would account for the higher price.
there was no shrimp in this soup however. i called the restaurant thinking there was a mistake with my order and the gentleman spoke with the kitchen and confirmed there was not supposed to be any shrimp in my soup, and no meat of any sort for that matter.
I don’t understand why there would be a charge of 7.95 for this hot water with vegetables?
never eating here again, ridiculous!

This is the best Chinese food. We live in Oakland and every time we come to Sacramento we always eat here. The sweet and sour prawns are the best!!! The fried rice and chow mean are the tastiest. Best chicken wings also. I would give this place 10 stars if I could.

Used to be my go to place for Chinese food. Something has changed. I always order to go and the last 2 times I’ve tossed the food after tasting. Just not good. I’m done!

Home sick with the flu I ordered food to be delivered even though a lot of the reviews said it takes a long time to get your food. Not the case for me the nice delivery man was at my door in about 20 mins! The food was hot and fresh and overall very good! I ordered the wonton soup, general tsao chicken (delicious) and it came with choice of side also got the Mongolian beef (could’ve used a little more flavor). I have enough food to get me through a few days!

Canton House at 3653 J Street in Sacramento is outstanding in every respect. Excellent General Tsao’s Chicken… We ordered their meal for 2 that is enough food for 4 people who don’t have lumberjack apetites. At $ 12.95 per person we got delicious Wonton Soup, Foil Wrapped Chicken, Deep Fried Prawns, Egg Rolls, General Tsao Chcken, Stir Fried Shrimp in Cashews with Veggies & House Special Fried Rice. Everything was prepared fresh and was delightful. I’ve had Chinese food in many places and I have to say I was greatly surprised at the quality and flavors of Canton’s Food. It’s a simple and clean restaurant. We found the booth tables to be a little too far from the booth seats and so sat at a table with chairs. Others might not find this to be the case. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The young man who greeted us and served our meal was so nice and helpful. Canton House has an extensive menu and had specials that were listed by the front door so there’s undoubtedly something for everyone! The Quantity to price to value point is outstanding at this restaurant.

Ordered 2 weeks ago and it was AMAZING I read online that people said it takes a while for delivery and it did take a little long but I didn’t care the food was worth it they can take as long as they need, finally good Chinese food.

I have been here a number of times. The food never disappoints. I only wish they served the half order (lunch portions) all day. But, I always look forward to saving half of my meal for lunch the next day because the servings are SO GENEROUS. I was surprised at the amount of negative reviews for this restaurant, but it seems they are all related to delivery. The employees are super nice and accommodating, I’m glad it’s so close to our new house!

Nice Chinese restaurants, foods are good and with low price. They also do delivery. Highly Recommend!

I love their fried rice and potstickers! It’s really good. The delivery guy is really nice and friendly. :) Will definitely come back to try out some other dishes! Highly recommended!!!

I make better fried rice and I’m Irish.
Takes for-​flippin-​ever to get your food for delivery. Ordered salt and pepper tofu and it was just fried tofu, no salt, no pepper. Of course even bad Chinese food is fine when you’re home from vacay and too lazy to go anywhere!
Will not be ordering again.

Food was bomb. Ordered general chicken and shrimp fried rice last night. They put extra green onions on my fried rice. General chicken was flavourful and spicy!

I have been getting take out from this restaurant for over three years and tonight they have officially lost my business. I have waited over an hour and a half for $ 70 worth of food, it is 9pm and still no delivery man has showed up. This isn’t the first time this has occurred either, and the workers and owners do not care that this has occurred. They do not apologize or try to make it right. I am very disappointed. And they have officially lost my business and I will ensure none of my friends ever go to this business again.

I ordered delivery from this restaurant and it took almost 2 hours for it to arrive to our hotel room. The food was cold and our order was incomplete.

So Yummy! Get the Potstickers and the Honey a Walnut Shrimp!!! Best I’ve had in Sacramento! My new fav Chinese Place!!!

First time here tonight: take out Chinese fried rice. My new only favorite Chinese restaurant in Sacramento (not including Mongolian BBQ). Tons of chicken in my fried rice! #worthit

I have used this Chinese place before and had a three star experience. Never once has my order been 100% satisfactory and there delivery sucks… I ordered my food for delivery at 6:03 pm and it is now 7:50… I was told it would be delivered at 7. I called them and they said that he knocked on my door but no one answered but I’m sitting within 5 feet from door and no one knocked and I gave them the correct address. Still waiting on my now cold food and very unsatisfied with them. Normally a place would give a free entrees make the meal free or give a coupon but he did none of that I just paid 25 $ for a 1 person meal that’s now cold and still has not arrived two hours later…

Ordered a delivery, was promised up to 45 minutes (to a location 1.5 miles from the restaurant). Called after an hour and was told they were busy but the driver is already on his way and should arrive any minute. 10 minutes later called again, was told «any second». Another 10 minutes passed and nothing. Called again and was told to call the driver. Called the driver and he had no idea where I am and seemed to be completely confused. Bottom line: An hour and a half, nobody called, no real apology or any attempt to help or resolve. The food? Bland and mushy. Overall experience: disaster.

Great food great service very friendly, good timing. Chow mein was excellent. All food was excellent. Definitely new favorite place
