If I was basing this on food and service alone, it would be five stars easy! But, and maybe this is a personal issue, the horrible smell of this place, the stickiness of the floors, the stains on all the tables, was enough to almost make me walk back out. I’m glad we stayed and tried it, the ice cream was the best I’ve ever had! But from now on, we’ll get ours to go until they clean the place up

This place is fantastic. Fantastic sandwiches, fantastic ice cream. It really doesn’t get any better. Seriously. If you like an old time fountain tested by time, I can’t think of a better place.

I love this old school fountain! They serve Gunthers ice cream and it’s always so creamy good my favorite is the strawberry cheesecake! This little spot reminds me of the malt shops you see in the movies with the counter! Their grilled cheese and tuna melt also need a mention!

I like Soda Fountains and I like Burr’s! They have a large selection of ice creams. They can still do phosphates, ice cream sodas, shakes and malts in a multitude of flavors. They are not afraid to fulfill your wishes such as a Jic-Jac Muddy Mocha Hot Fudge Sundae. Their food is also quite good for a soda fountain. There are two things I would add to the menu — one would be a Green River(lime sweet soda) and the other would be goblets of hot fudge or toppings served with the sundae. But the ice cream is very good!

Great old fashioned ice cream parlor vibe. They serve a variety of ice cream and old fashioned fountain treats. I was, however, a bit disappointed with the grilled cheese I ordered. I added onions and tomato but it was added AFTER the cheese had been grilled. I guess it must be a West Coast thing. Next time I will be specific and ask that the onions and tomato be grilled WITH the cheese. Also, the American cheese was the thinnest I’ve ever had. Will ask for 2 slices next time. The sandwich was preciously cut into 4 pieces. Wish they offered Cheddar. The Cherry Phosphate was good. I’m likely to stop by when I visit Trader Joe’s which is next door and I’ll try something else.

Chocolate? Coffee? Why not both? I had a delicious muddy mocha shake. The prices are reasonable and the options varied and tempting. I also tried a sample of the peach ice cream and although it didn’t address my coffee/chocolate craving, I’d like to go back because it was tasty. I sat outside and there were several groups celebrating birthdays, end of Summer, etc. It’s a great neighborhood place!

There food items our fantastic! I love their vegetarian sandwich, grilled. Plus, their minestrone soup is so fresh, one of the best I have had in town. This place is great if you are wanting a great sandwich on the go!

Great sandwiches for the price, and super dog-friendly. I recommend the BLT on toasted sourdough.

I used to live right down the street from this place as a kid. The grilled cheese sandwiches are the bomb! Make sure you bring pennies for the gumball machine.

Friendly as soon as you walk in. Ice cream choices are ok, same as you find else where. Had mint chocolate chip sundae, it was ok. Fiancé had banana split, she said it was ok. But the one thing that caught my eye was the ice cream pies. Couldn’t see them because they were in boxes, but the way the girl behind the counter described them sounded delicioso. Maybe next time ice cream pie, maybe next time.

I’ve only tried their ice cream, however they also offer sandwiches and other foods! They Have several flavors like peanut butter, mocha chip, and OK there good ones. What really impressed me is the size of the singles scoop size! It’s like getting a double scoop! Sweet deal:)

You can get two flavors in a single. The pecan praline was so so, but the muddy mocha is excellent. Also had the turkey sandwich with dark rye, which was very tasty. Very welcoming atmosphere. Wish their spoons were a bit more sturdy!

roast beef sandwich on dark thin rye and potato chips and egg nog ice cream! When i first walk in i got greeted, then they handed me a menu. i then looked at it and deiced i will try the roast beef sandwich because i was hungry. then i saw all the different variety of ice cream flavor including the holiday flavors so i went ahead and asked for 2 samples. i got the pumpkin spice and eggnog and i chose the eggnog and both were just as good. there was a counter where you can sit down and watch them make your drinks and ice cream as well. i was waiting for my food as i was enjoying my ice cream while waiting. The sandwich did not take long and was done about 10 minutes later. i got the sandwich and it was hot and it had fresh fried potato chips as well. the price is about 7 bucks and is under 10 bucks so i think it is a deal. the sandwich is very fresh and hot and the meat is great too. the bread was thin as well and it was crisp and the color looked very appealing too. the potato chips were warm and it was crunchy as well. i will come back in the future to try the grill cheese sandwich because i was reading several people about the good thing about it. i will come here more often when i start coming to traders joe.

From the outside, this seems like a really cool retro-ice-cream shop. Inside it’s a different kind of retro — the outside says 1940s, the inside says 1980s. I feel like… in my heart of hearts, I wish the inside was pure old-school retro. The layout of the place is screaming for it. BUT… credit where credit is due, despite the wrong type of retro on the inside, it is a perfectly serviceable place to get a small bite to eat, some ice cream, etc. I like that the bites are small. It seems like a kid-oriented place, so I would guess the food is aimed at smaller appetites, but by and large, we could all stand to not get giant buckets of slop with every feeding. I ordered an egg-salad sandwich on sourdough, toasted, with a side of chili. The sandwich came with ridged potato chips. To be totally fair and honest, the food was very presentable, but not super flavorful or even particularly good, but I like that they serve up food like that, in portions that a human should eat. I like the menu — anyplace that has egg-salad is pure aces in my dusty ol’ book. I didn’t try the ice cream because that’s not my thing, but everyone else really seemed to be enjoying it. I feel like my take-away feeling was more 2 or 3 star, but I give them a lot of credit and leeway for the menu items, the presentation, the fact that they exist in general, and the potential for someone to polish the place and really retro it up.

Good ol fashion ice cream shop! There are only a couple of these gems in Sacramento. I put Burr’s in the same category as Gunther’s and Leatherby’s. The interior looks like they have kept it the same since it first opened. Workers were nice and patient when wanting to try flavors! Ice Cream: Old fashioned flavors that will not disappoint! Wish they would offer more than just a sugar cone or the cake cone… Its not the most flashy or hip establishment out there but its 4 star worthy

This is an old school ice cream and sandwich shop. We just popped in for a milkshake, but many other people were in there eating soups and sandwiches. I lurked over their tables a little and everything really tasty. Our milkshake was good, although not super thick. $ 4.50 for a regular sized shake(size estimate 16oz?) The prices for sandwiches and hot dog ranged $ 3 – 8. They serve chips, not fries. I have a feeling this might become my summer evening go to spot.

This place serves food and ice cream. It’s a cozy little spot serving good items. I have only been for the ice cream. I’ve tried a variety and none of them are disappointing. My favorites are peanut butter, mocha, mint and chocolate. You have the option of cup, sugar cone or regular cone. I always go for the sugar cone because it’s so darn good! Burr’s has a parking lot and holds quite a few cars. If it’s full, I’ve seen people park on the street. Parking is very easy here. I am looking forward to coming back for a meal. Based on what I’ve seen on the menu, I will have to check out some of their sandwiches and soups because they look tasty.

Burr’s Fountain is as close as you’ll get in this day and age to a classic malt and soda shop. For those of you under the age of say, 50, that means the same type of place Marty McFly fought Bif at in Back to the Future. Besides the charm of a classic soda fountain, it also has a great selection of ice cream served up whichever way you like it. I believe it’s Gunther’s ice cream but I can’t be sure. The mostly teenage kids behind the counter are happy to give you heaping spoonful samples and help you with suggestions. I ordered and savored a shake made with muddy mocha, a kind of coffee almond fudge concoction. It was thick, rich and totally satisfying on a hot afternoon. Charm aside, it seems like there could be a little repairing done and a facelift on the interior. Either way, I’ll be back soon. It was far too long before I discovered this blast from the past in my own backyard.
