I can’t believe I found a decent empanada in Maine. These remind me of the old country(elmhurst queens). Very thankful to have this place in town.

This is the first place we wanted to stop at to eat on our return to Maine from the west coast. We love the food and the family! My favorite dishes are the tostadas with plantains and the yuca plate. The churros are good, too.

Everything is delicious ! I usually get the pabellon criollo arepa recommend to me by Luis ! Sweet plantains and tender shredded beef, just excellent. I’ve never found anything quite this good in Maine.

Not a lot of lettuce or crunch or flavor in anything, just heavy meats in deep fried corn pancakes. Their french fries were pretty good but I don’t know how anyone could eat the amount of thick greasy cornmeal envelopes that make up these arepas. They do give free samples away.

Came here based off of the Great Unilocal reviews however, I have to disagree with what’s on here. I left from there about an hour ago and I have already thrown up twice. The server was extremely patient/nice with us because we had no clue on what to order and for that, the extra star was added. Please stay away from El Plato and El Trio. The ground beef was extremely salty and possibly undercooked/microwaved? We are on vacation from NY and this was the last thing that we needed.

Loving, family run operation. Luis and his wife make amazing arepas and the best French fries you will ever have. Do yourself a favor and meet Luis and his family!

Love this place! The rice and bean plates with chicken or beef remind me of back home in New Orleans where we eat beans and lots other things over rice!!! And Luis’s is right here in Saco!

Me and my fiancé went here the first day they were open. They didn’t have an atm or accept cards at that time, so we told them we would come back at a later date to try their food. Louis and his wife proceeded to give us a few half arepas, with rice and beans for free. It was one of the nicest things I’ve seen, and I’ve been eating there ever since. This page sums up what an arepa is, but you will never know it’s true glory until you have had one for yourself. The crunchy exterior with the fluffy interior is amazing. My personal favorite is the shredded beef with cheese(extra for cheese, but 100% worth it), while my fiancé love the avacado with cheese. The Yuca plate is also incredibly delicious, along with their rice and beans. The fresh cut french fries are another one of our favorites. There is honestly not enough good things I can say about this place. If you wind up anywhere near Saco, Maine, do yourself a favor and stop in. You will not regret it!

Really really delicious arepas. Not the biggest selection of fillings, but when the everything about the thing is on point, you don’t need a bunch of choices. I’ve never had an arepa be so light in the middle while also so crispy on the outside. We really enjoyed the service as well. Very pleasant and familial. The green plaintains/tostones were oh so addictive and crispy. If you are unsure about price, one is certainly big enough for a meal with a side like green plaintains. If you are adventurous and like value, the 6 half arepas platter would surely feed two hungry adults. Overall a great experience and we will be back for more soon!

Had a Carepas sampler. I’ve had plenty of Hispanic food my life but hadn’t tried this before. It was a good change of pace. If I could do it again if just get the beef probably the chicken was good too. I thought the cheese and bean options not as good

Look here is the thing I’m sitting here on an evening and only one other person is here. I say this because this place should have at least another 15 people in here. The only place around to get Venezuelan food and it’s delicious. Tired of burritos and tacos?(I know how is that possible? But hear me out) Arepas are a great alternative. Imagine a pita made of cornbread and lightly fried then made into a pouch. Still with me? Fill said pouch with rice beans beef/chicken/avocado/tuna/turkey your choice! And then… wait for it… Fried Plantains!!! What I’m getting at is this place is awesome and you feel like you traveled to Latin America without all the fear of being abducted by gorilla fighters every American tourist has. I feel that way when I go to Canada so it’s cool. Come in and order some great food. P. S it looks like a house.

Great find! Fantastic food, friendly and helpful customer service and easy parking made this a great lunch stop on the way to Portland. We ordered the 6 half arepas, fried yuca with toppings, horchata and coffee for under $ 25. Ground beef and avocado/tomato were our favorite filings.

Very sweet clean place with excellent reasonably priced food, about 2 miles off exit 36 on 95N. My husband has a zillion allergies and they made him a wonderful plate of food that he could eat. I would definitely go back if I was in the area.

I love this family run place, the El Plato was absolutely delicious. The fried yuca and green plantain was delicious. I am traveling through New England on vacation and so far this had been my best meal, beat out the lobster roll I had today and 4x cheaper.

Shredded chicken with avocado & pabellon(beef). Very good, accommodating. Gluten free arepas are baked seperately — the bottom of the arepa is soggier & the top crispier as expected with baking. Would have been better with more if the shredded beef, which was Delicious!

My fried plantains were burnt out and cold inside. when u add avocado to any arepa u get some kind of soggy salad with almost no avocado instead of the slice shown in the menu pictures. My food took 17 min

I am in love with this place. In a tidy little building just outside the reaches of Saco heading west on Rte 112, you will find some pretty unique food to this area. I am making the assumption that not many Mainers have ever sampled Venezuelan cuisine but judging by the steady stream of customers, people in this neighborhood are really very lucky. And thanks to the wonderful reviewers on Unilocal who directed us here! We took the advice and ordered the beef arepa and my DC the shredded chicken as he steers(no pun intended)(well, okay maybe it was intended :) away from beef. The owner is so customer-centric and quickly acknowledges your presence, doesn’t rush and is happy to make suggestions. So the good news is you can eat here for 2 meals out of the 3 every day! I’m anticipating my next visit. I just loved my experience here and walked away sated with that feeling that all was right with the world. On another note, being the first day of my summer vacation, I didn’t eat properly. Hmm… I had in this order at home… coffee, asiago cheese grits, a half bottle of somewhat flat coca-cola and twizzlers spread over an 8-hour period. So when we arrived stomachs growling in Saco near 6 pm I was definitely ready to EAT. Everything was so well prepared and I was glad I opted for some guacamole on my perfectly crispy arepa. Also note that it is gluten-free as the arepa is made of cornmeal. Completing the meal was a side dish of perfectly caramelized sweet plantains. I was reminded of my visit to South Beach Miami several years ago when attending the Art Deco Festival. I couldn’t help but notice the little arepa stands set up along the parade route on Ocean Drive and though I was intensely curious, I didn’t end up trying one but they looked delicious. Who would have thought that I would finally get the opportunity in little ‘olé Saco Maine?

This place is very yummy and I am craving it right now. My husband and I were there last month on the 10th of October. I didnt actually go inside, but my husband did. He ordered one chicken arepa with avacado and cheese and he loved it. I watched him shove it in his mouth and made yummy noises. My man is hard to please when it comes to food. I hade the ground beef arepa and the flavors were fab!!! My mouth is watering while thinking out it. WHen we got to the shreadded beef arepa we were full. It was still good, but thats one that we would like to try again. The owner Luis also gets an A plus. My husband said he was super welcoming and that made a huge impression on us. I love bussiness that care about customer service. We will be back next October and I can’t wait. I’m craving it here in California and can’t find anything at all like it.
