Our family stopped here as we headed home from Tennessee and we picked this place based on the other reviews on Google and Unilocal.It was a bit off of 40, but enjoyed passing through Bat Cave and Lake Lure areas on the way. The mining was enjoyed by the kids as we talked with the owner. He was really into gem mining anywhere and had knowledge of lots of places in NC and encouraged us to try mining at our local river which we will plan to now. The kids came away with a nice bag of gems and more can be purchased in the local store here which has gems and more.

Fun for all ages. Great staff and great environment. The gift shop is filled with high end gems from around the world, meteors, as well as antique pieces fit for a museum.

Family and kids had so much fun. $ 25 (cash or check) for a huge bucket. Kids loved finding the cool different rocks. Owner tells you about the stones and gems. Great museum like store to look at. Space rocks, dinosaur bones, beautiful collection of rare and polished stones. 5.5 miles from Wyndham resort at Lake Lure.

I knew we wanted to take the kids gem mining, but I did not know where to take them. I happened to pick up a brochure for Broad River at our resort and we headed out. I am used to the gem mining places being tourist traps and a little bit of a rip-off…but I was pleasantly surprised. The family who owns the land has an awesome set-​up; their collection of fossils and gemstones is amazing and the mining itself was fun and informative. Both kids unearthed a treasure trove worth of gems and stones and the owner was able to teach them about each one as they found it.
My kids enjoyed that most, out of the whole vacation!
I definitely recommend a stop in there if you are in the area.
