The Dog House and More

Today I was finally able to try The Dog House and More. I decided to try the And More, which, for me, was the beef brisket and three ribs with beans. The brisket was outstanding, very tender and flavorful and not fatty, either-​just the way I like it. The ribs were also very good, a dry rub version that seasoned the amble meat on the bones. The beans were good, too.
Friendly service and reasonable prices. Like the Terminator, I’ll be back.

I had the rib plate w hush puppies. The ribs where really good with the spicy bbq sauce. Really smoky and the sauce left a little bit of a sting. The Cole slaw was ok. Nothing to write home about. I also tried the sweet potato fries with the marshmallow and maple syrup. It was pretty tasty. I mixed a little with hot sauce and it wasn’t that bad. The fries were crunchy.

I don’t really get it, other than one thing — it’s kinda enjoyable sitting outside on a picnic bench enjoying the coastal breeze. But if you don’t want to sit outside, know that you DON’T HAVE A CHOICE.
I got the grouper sandwich — $ 10 for no more than 3 ounces of THIN grouper that filled up half the bun! Mrs. W got a chili dog. She said the chili was average run-​of-​the-​mill chili and the hot dog was «decent beef quality». Look folks — it ain’t a Vienna beef dog here. For a grouper sandwich, a chili dog, 2 drinks and fries, it cost $ 21 — from a place that doesn’t have a building, air conditioning, etc…
Oh yeah — it doesn’t have a toilet either! They have one of those «port-​o-​lets» out back!
Like I said — I don’t get it, and after reading all these raving reviews, I must’ve missed something.
Speaking of missing something — the reason we went there was for their $ 10 Lobster Roll. Don’t waste your time. They don’t even have ‘em any more!
One more thing… You know how when plastic picnic table covers get old they get sticky? Count on some very sticky table covers. We overheard the people at the table next to us saying how gross they are…

The cashier was very rude rushing us with our order. She had no business being in the front taking orders. She was an old-​blonde lady with a grumpy look on her face. I respect my elders so I will say no more. But it wasn’t for the food I would have rated them an –1 because of her.

Great food! We will definitely come back. Seating is only outside or you can get it to go.

I had the Philly sandwich and it was great. Surprisingly, we got the last piece of a fabulous homemade pumpkin cheesecake. My husband had a rib platter. I tasted it and I wasn’t hugely impressed but I would try it again. The staff was friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t make a habit of going here but it’s fun every once in a while.

My wife and I love the Dog House! We always get the chicken phillys which are delicious. I’ve also tried the burgers and fish sandwich. You can’t go wrong here.

The burgers were very good! They are made fresh on the spot and are full of flavor. It is definitely a place to try if you are tired of the same old food around here.

Had a simple boneless rib sandwich. It was amazing!!! If you’re in the area it’s a must stop & experience!

What a treat! The ribs and brisket were well smoked, tender and moist! The sauces Suberin. The beans unique with pineapple and molasses. I wish I lived here so I could come once a week. As it is, will come every time I visit family in Florida!

Some of the best homemade bbq we’ve ever had! It’s a little hidden away, but easy to find. Gonna have to take the parents to come and enjoy this place soon!

My God the ribs are fantastic. We were on our way to get some fish and the other place was closed. I had driven by this place dozens of times but never stopped. Big mistake on my part. The ribs were tender and fell of the bone, I sampled both barbecue sauces and they great. The baked beans also hit the spot. Do not be fooled by appearance. This place is a gem. If you do not want to eat roadside take it home because it is even better with a beer

Wow wow wow! Brisket Grill Cheese was outstanding! Coming back for sure. Stop reading and get to this place!

Great people, so friendly. The ribs were amazing & falling off the bone, chower was fantastic, as was the brisket. Worth the stop!

Another trip to the Dog House, another great meal. Best darn brisket and BBQ I’ve ever had. The owners are awesome people. This place is making me consider moving to Ruskin.

I’m not big on sitting outdoors to eat, especially on 90* days… but when it comes to the bbq at the Dog House I will do it. I am a fan of mom and pop type places and this fits the bill. Nothing fancy, grab your picnic table and be prepared to eat some of the best food you’ll ever have.
Melt in your mouth brisket, delicious pulled pork, tasty sauces and great cole slaw all at very affordable prices. Can’t wait to go back to try their fish which the owner assures us is fantastic! And I believe her.
Take a drive to Ruskin and give the Dog House a try. You won’t be disappointed!

OK, it is nothing fancy, to say the least. However, there is a certain charm about the place. The service was quick and friendly. I had a chili dog and my wife had a dog with kraut. Both were very good, if not a bit expensive. Will definitely return.

We have been trying to stop for ages, but timing was always wrong. Finally made it for lunch. I had a hot dog with sauerkraut, which is served on a toasted roll and all was fresh and tasty. My husband had a hot dog with chili and enjoyed it as much as I did. He also got the side of potato salad, which was different than most, but he enjoyed it.
Atmosphere is casual picnic tables under an awning. Everything is kept clean and everyone working there is friendly. Great stop!

We stayed at the Resort and Inn at Little Harbor just a few miles down the road and were looking for somewhere good/​quick to eat before going to an event. We took advantage of a buy one, get one half off sandwich deal and were surprised at just how good the sandwiches were. It was literally the best BBQ I have ever tasted. The sweet potato fries and the maple/​marshmallow dipping sauce is also a must. Don’t knock it until you try it!
