The Vitamin Shoppe

I like Vitamin Shoppe. I consider myself to be athletic, a long time runner turned crossfit athlete, so from time to time I need to pop in for some Quest Bars or some iron supplements. I’m a vegetarian who likes to read about nutrition, and my career background is in Health and Science. I consider myself to be pretty well informed about what my body (and probably yours) needs and I’ve probably been to 10 Vitamin Shoppe locations over the years in two states. This location… sigh…
Sure, it appears to be well stocked. They have all of the protein powders and diet supplements you’d expect. My problem is with the manager. Beware the loud woman giving terrible advice to unsuspecting and clueless customers! The last two occasions I visited this Vitamin Shoppe, I overheard this woman giving BAD advice to middle aged women who were just looking for someone to tell them what’s going to make them «skinny». Mind you, this manager hardly looks like an athlete, and I’m not sure spending your working hours standing amongst vitamin d tablets and detox tea makes you any sort of expert. I’m assuming there aren’t any nutritional type questions on the job interview at this place.
Ma’am, the combination of those two pills you sold that woman are going to constipate the hell out of her. Could I have told you that if she took some chewable vitamin c in addition to those vitamins she’d be fine? Clearly, yes. Did I tell the woman? You bet I did. You’re welcome, I’m up-​selling for you.
If you go in here knowing what you need, you’ll be fine. If you are at this woman’s mercy, I’m sorry. This morning I asked her for a protein powder that was both paleo AND vegetarian… just to watch her head EXPLODE. And it did! Good times. And for the record, ma’am, there is such a thing. You just don’t carry it.
