I didn’t walk away saying OMG best SUSHIEVAAA! But none the less it was yummy! I have heard rave reviews about this place for some time now and I was finally able to experience it myself on a Monday. I have heard during weekend expect a wait and I will say for it being a Monday it was busy. Just about every table was occupied. I can only image it gets busier as the week goes on. Hands down they have a great Happy Hour Menu. Several drinks and food items are on the menu. I had the hot happy hour saki… very good(only $ 5) and later on a glass of Pinot Grigio(also on the HR menu for $ 5). For sushi they have the option of a hand roll(one piece that is like a sphere) or maki(sharable pieces). I opted for the maki rolls. I chose the obvious California roll. flavorful, fresh and you receive 6 pieces to the roll. Very good.(Also on the HR menu for like $ 4) Then I had the kukcumber roll(On the pricer side, i believe $ 15). Very different, but I thought very tasty. If you like cucumber, you’ll love this. It had salmon, crab and tuna as well as avocado and is wrapped with shavings of cucumber. On top there is sprinkle of canyenne pepper or something similar to give it a bit of a kick. It is served on long wooden stick, like a kabob. I wouldn’t even attempt eating this with chop sticks. My friend wasn’t as fond of the this roll, he wasn’t crazy about the salmon texture. They do stuff the roll to the max so there is a decent amount of salmon, tune and crab in the roll. My friend had the dynamite roll which were large pieces and a spicy California roll. I will give Ronin 3 thumbs up for their spicy sauce. It was spicier than others I’ve had in the past and had a different taste, but for the better. When I come back I will definitely get the spicy sauce on my rolls. To me sushi is either good or not so good… Yes ronin was good and fresh ingredients were used. The vibe is fun, young and hip. Great for a night out or happy hour. Overall I’ll be back!

*Happy hour review* Decent options on the happy hour menu. It’s every day from 5 to 7 which includes weekends! Really cool ambience and everything is very woody. You’ll know what I mean if you were here. Our server was helpful and attentive, no complaints there. Drinks are so cheap you can get 3 shots of sake for 2 bucks. And wells are 3. That’s a deal in my book! As per food: Spicy salmon crunch roll: it was good, but a little fishy ish Salmon nigiri: Strangely it must have not been cut from the same fish because it was not fishy and was quite buttery. I enjoyed it. Spicy crawfish roll: probably my favorite roll. It wasn’t really spicy as the mayo helped to balance the spice but it was delicious. Mountain dew roll: was decent but at 9 bucks on happy hour I wouldn’t get it again. Basically mushrooms and tempura rolled up with some kind of green rice paper. Gyoza: pretty meh. Basically like dumplings from super market. Wouldn’t get it again. Overall, if I’m looking for some sushi and alcohol, I’ll be heading here in the future. Happy Unilocaling! Pro tip: uncork the soy sauce before you pour so you don’t get it everywhere like I did…

Just came here with a friend because I wanted to try it. Last time we had walked by there was a queue out the door. I’m sure I’m going to sound like an obnoxious Californian, but hey, why deny yourself — CA has some killer sushi so I’m spoiled and judge harshly. Here’s the dish: ambiance: classier than your average sushi joint. service: very good — attentive waiters! food: we did a few things off the happy hour menu — the tuna tacos and the gyoza, I thought both were meh, my friend figured the gyoza was decent. The tacos are two-bite-sized and are served on cream of some kind(I was really confused, but what do I know about cream…) Rolls were definitely an improvement — we had the cherry blossom which was very tasty and the scallop roll and agreed the former was superior, but both were tasty. drink menu is relatively extensive but we did not partake this particular evening. Would I come here for sushi? most likely not — I’d probably just go to Noble Fish if you’re looking for legit sushi. hope this helps, Unilocalers!

Located in the strip area of Royal Oak next door to a concert venue. Very limited street parking and a paid lot one block away. A very classy looking neo Japan/sushi place. Fast and polite staff. Good drink selection leaning towards Japanese products but with many trendy US beer and drinks. Great sushi. A little pricey, but there are food and drink specials until 7 Monday to Thursday. Table and barstools get very hard to come by after 7. The only downside is that several of the customers know they are better then everyone else and have no issue acting like it.

I’ve been eating here for years and it’s always been my favorite sushi spot in Michigan.)I’ve had sushi all over the world) I was there 2 weeks ago the service was poor and something about the food wasn’t right. First time I ever had a bad experience at ronin. I gave it another try tonight… Let’s just say I sat at the sushi bar and the place was very warm with a damp fishy smell and I sat down for 15 mins with no waitress that acknowledged me. This place is falling apart. I won’t return

This is my favorite sushi place in the area. I have tried many different rolls here and have never had a bad experience. My new favorite is the Cha Cha roll, so good. If you ever have enough room for dessert, the Oreo tempura is delicious!

Hands down my favorite restaurant ever ever ever. I love sushi so may that swing my opinion but it is the perfect place to take someone who doesn’t like fish. The have so many amazing rolls without fish including the shinto, BLT, and mountain dew roll. If you do like fish there is no roll you wouldn’t like. One of those places you can tell has really fresh fish. Hands down best sushi place in the area. It gets very busy very quick and don’t be surprised if you’re going to have to wait a couple hours to be seated. Although, while you wait you can get comfortable around the bar/lounge area and maybe end up eating there. I can go on and on and only say good things so i suggest that you just try this place out.

Great sushi! Very fresh Sashimi and Nigiri. We also ordered a few elaborate rolls and the Cha Cha Cha stood out among the 3. Great ambiance — if you’re into that, you can’t go wrong here. Beware the wait as this place gets quite busy at 5.

My favorite restaurant and sushi ever. This place is everything. Ginger Cosmo and the cha cha roll are the stuff I dream about. I’ve literally never had a bad meal here. Friends and I eat here every few weeks and it’s ALWAYS good. Eat here immediately!

Ronin has always been a good sushi spot. My favorite is Little Tree of course, but when you’re looking for loud, low lights and window seats up the road. This is the spot.

Solid sushi place with lots of options and a great happy hour. My husband is a picky sushi eater, but he loved coming to this place. Their ribs were also a delicious appetizer. Always tasty cocktails, fast service, and great ambiance make this a nice place to grab dinner, bring a date or enjoy happy hour.

Great ambience, awesome lineup of cocktails, friendly service, and the sushi was fantastic. The cha-cha roll and tuna tartare were our favorites. I’ve been here several times and will come back again.

Ronin is a really special place with unique dishes and excellent style(the music is kind of weird though, I have to say). My sister and I love coming here, since this is probably one of the few decent Japanese places in the area. We almost always get the pink blossom and the kakucucumber rolls. We’ve also tried the sea monster, cha cha, California, and crunchy spicy salmon rolls, in addition to the crab chowder, pork gyoza, and udon. The standouts in my opinion are the pink blossom and kakucucumber rolls. The freshness — which is evidenced by pretty much everything on the menu — is especially obvious in those two, and I think the flavors are all very well-balanced while still staying unique to the restaurant. In my opinion the cha cha roll is a little too rich and the sea monster a little too confusing/muddled/unbalanced. Pretty much everything, overall, is good though. I would definitely love to try their more fascinating fusion dishes like the wasabi salad and the spicy tuna crunchy rice next time, though! And the tuna tacos during happy hour. But this is certainly a great place to check out if you’re into Japanese, especially since freshness is very important when it comes to seafood; and Ronin absolutely gets that part right.

Trendy restaurant in a great location. Great service! Decent happy hour menu. Kobe sliders were delish! The sashimi were fresh. My fave maki was the pink blossom rolls. Luckily we came early, so there was no wait.

I love the dark interior with wooden décor — perfect for dates or a night out. The mojitos were delicious — pretty strong as well. However, the sushi was just okay. Overpriced, and not the best quality. I think they lean more Asian Fusion than traditional Japanese.

Good Sushi Place — their happy hour price is good(before 7pm)! It is not really very authentic compared to those Sushi houses in San Francisco or New York, but their food is good overall — especially in midwest area.

loved the location, drinks and food menu, and trendy décor. there’s even an upstairs dimly lit lounge with couches and booths to sit around with plenty of windows to enjoy the street view of downtown Royal Oak. good cocktails and red and white wine selections, which i should’ve gotten instead of ordering my usual Old Fashion’d. for whatever reason, the bartender upstairs completely ruined my drink order with way too much ice and some cocktail cherries or whatever the hell she mashed at the bottom of my glass. minor blemish but whatever, we had a lot of good sushi and hot sake downstairs to recover. excited to check out other cool spots in Royal Oak in the future. looks to have a lot of cool spots for young professionals to hang out and enjoy the night. –civilities.

Overpriced, mediocre sushi. From the HH menu, we tried the hot sake + Sapporo combo, Mountain Dew roll, and the spicy tuna tacos. The Mt Dew roll tastes like junk Americanized Chinese that you crave only when you’re drunk. Fried, savory, and filled with empty calories. After I tried one of the spicy tuna tacos, I didn’t even realize they were supposed to be spicy until I did a double-take of the menu. Bland to the point of flavorless. The presentation was confusing too; the tacos were sitting on top of a sour cream-like substance smeared all over the plate. Are we supposed to use this as a dip? Off the regular menu, we tried the spicy tuna and eel cucumber rolls, which were decent, but just as good as any other rolls I’ve had virtually any place else. Go to Little Tree instead and try their fantastic chili tuna rolls if you want spicy.

The sushi here is great but far from the best i’ve had. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a modern lay out fit for a classy night out. Be prepared to wait a while for a table if you didn’t make a reservation. The food is quality and so is the ingredients they use to prepare the sushi, but the serving sizes are very small and the price extremely high. Last time I was here I spent about a hundred dollars and walked out still hungry. The customers here tend to be pretty self-important and pretentious. This kind of put a sour taste in my mouth and ruined the vibe a bit for me. As if they weren’t here to eat, more so to be seen eating.

Really great sushi and one of the better environments in downtown Royal Oak. A little on the pricer side, but I am usually fine with that. Hung at the bar for a quicky before being seated. Content with the regular menu and surprised by the crab chowder. You can usually find royal oak elite in here hanging out on a typical night or the preshow concert crowd. I recommend not over-ordering. You can’t make reservations.

Easily the best sushi in the greater Detroit area. If you can, try to get there during happy hour. We had the Hot Crawdad roll, Mountain Dew roll, Spicy Cali roll, Pink Blossom roll, and the Sea Monster roll. Everything was delicious! The fish was fresh and tasty. And the rolls had real flavor that didn’t come from a bunch of sauces, it was the actual food that held the flavor. Top two favorite roles are Hot Crawdad with cooked Crawdad tail and with flavors of garlic and sesame and the the Pink Blossom with fresh smoked salmon and avocado. If sushi isn’t your thing, they have great American food. We got their shoestring fries for an app and they were great! A must try!

This is definitely a cool place. The wait(regardless of Tuesday or Saturday night) is usually guaranteed. There are no reservations, your party is seated when everyone is present. The venue is hip and trendy, service is pretty good as well. Today had the features including the feature roll consisting of tempura pineapple and spicy tuna. Pineapple sounded tempting and unique but really didn’t compliment the other ingredients. Also had the barbecue beef stir fry which was also underwhelming. I still gave a 4 rating because the sushi is very good. In addition cocktails are good as well. Fun place to go to.

Is this place a little hyped for sushi? Of course it is, but do people still go for the atmosphere and sex appeal, yes! Please be aware that a weekend wait is usually 1 – 1.5 hour and they do not take reservations or call aheads. But, the secret is to go get a lounge seat in the back without the wait. This is place where people go to people watch or be seen. Now, let’s get down to the food and sushi. The cocktails are really weak. I mean, I have a low asian tolerance and it was really really weak. But the sushi is actually pretty good, not NOBLEFISH good, but pretty good. I would actually try any of the special rolls and those SHOESTRINGFRIES. Yes, the best thing at this sushi joint is not the sushi– but these damn fries. Please try it with the spicy mayo. If you are in the mood for just sushi and not a night out, I really wouldn’t come here. But, I’ll be back for a cocktail!

Ronin es un lugar con servicio bueno. Las meseras son rapidas y las bebidas son normales. Si pides algo, te recomiendo un shot de baileys con vodka uv.
