GREAT, cheap food! Almost the whole menu is made-from-scratch. The Coconut Cream Pie is CLOSE to as good as my mom’s!!! BEWARE: Like MANY other places in the Alton-area, including FASTEDDIE’S, The Dee-Lux Diner is CA$H ONLY!!!

I have been going here for years. I have lived in Hartford for 34 years now. I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. The type of restaurant is family style. Nothing fancy just home cooked food. I come here for breakfast mostly. but a lot of the refineries people eat here. beats the fast food places by far. Prices are good and so is the food

Here’s the deal. Unless you want to eat at the Casey’s gas station down the street or travel miles for the same old fast food chains inflicted upon us everywhere, this is the only place to get honest, home-style meals quick if you’re working at the refineries down here. I got posted on a pipeline pumping station job down here and like to died from greasy, over-priced gas station food or – if I wanted to drive for an extra 30 mins — my choice of McDonalds or Taco Hell. After two weeks of this, I was ready to quit for health reasons. Enter: the Dee-Lux Diner. A graceless little building on the west side of Rt 111, this place serves up a regular rotating schedule of home-style lunch specials that include daily vegetables and a really outstanding cup of coffee. A full lunch with dessert(pie, ice cream or home-made chocolate cake) will run you less than ten bucks easy, usually with the tip. The servers are sassy and capable, and the kitchen is efficient enough. They even do ‘call-ahead orders’ so that lunch can be ready when you get there, leaving you time in your lunchbreak to relax a little. Have I had better? Sure. But not in South Roxana/Hartford. This place was a life saver, and I will go out of my way to visit again, if only for sentimental reasons.
