In the same vein as Nuke the Fridge Con, ReactorCon is a free convention that takes place at Frank & Son’s Collectible Show out in City of Industry. It happened to be going the same weekend I was at another convention, so rather than drive to that other one right away Saturday morning, Brandon D. and I headed to ReactorCon( Unilocal event: ) first to at least spend some time there. Many of the autograph and exhibitor booths stood empty and it seemed like a majority of the costumed attendees just hung around Cosplay in America’s booth(yeah, he was there), not wanting their pictures taken by anyone else. Amusingly, for as dead as people were commenting that it was(especially compared with the far-more-crowded Nuke the Fridge Con), it was more happening and more fun than that pay con I was skipping out on at that moment. I was there during their panels with Batman fan filmmakers who wanted to promote and show off their latest work, and while Superman actor Dean Cain was doing his signing and doing photo ops with fans(photo: ). A few of the voice actors from«Halo 4» were also there doing autographs and talking to people. There were several cosplayers, many happy to take photos( ). As with NTFC, holding a con at Frank’s is nice for the fact that there’s already dealers there and it gives them business without having to dismantle their usual set-up and truck it to some convention center where they’d have to pay booth and badge fees and hope they make their money back. It’s a wise venue choice. Parking was insane, though. People were parked in no stopping/red zones, all up and down San Jose and over by the railroad tracks. If there’s no viable, legal parking by Frank’s(which is hard to find, believe you me), I recommend parking the other side of Valley(on or by Camino de Teodoro) and walking.
