Review for shaved ice The toppings to ice proportion was off. Way too little ice. And it was super sweet. I had to dilute it in water. But other than that all the toppings were delicious!

I’ve only ever had the shaved ice here, and boy, have the prices on shaved ice have gone up! It used to only be $ 2.50 back in the day, but now it’s $ 4.25 for 4 items and $ 0.50 for condensed milk. They’re fast, which is great for a lunch run, and I do love that they give you extra ice on the side cuz it melts sooo fast in this heat!

I haven’t really experienced there dishes. But the orange chicken is good. Oh and the chili sauce that comes with it man it’s so good but so spicy but you can’t stop eating it because it’s so dam good. Anyways on to the main reason why I’m here… I crave for the shave ice here EVERY day. Which isn’t good considering I live 20 – 30 minutes away. Somehow I end up making time for this place once every two weeks. They have many choices on toppings. They’re not skimpy on their condense milk. Plus it’s cheap and they give you a baggy of ice to go for when you run out of ice and trust me you will need that extra bag. My favorite combo is with the almond pudding, mango pudding, mochi, longon. Okay those aren’t the exact names so don’t blame me when you order these. Only issue I have with this place is their attitude. They’re not extremely the nicest people around this area, but I forgive them because I love the shave ice here. And yes I’ve been to class 302 which have deviated me from this place for a bit but, I am now tired of their shave snow, cramp space, and wait time. I would never get tired of the shave ice here.

First time here didn’t know there was a Shao Mei in Rowland Heights. Even though it was ghetto looking place the seaweed soup was good. I got the fish fillet with cabbage and meatballs with clear noodles which I never had at the other Shao Meis.

This is a fast food place that serves Taiwanese dishes. You order and pay at the counter, take a number to display on your table, and they will bring your food to you. That’s about it as far as service goes. Although when we went there, there was a old gentleman who seemed to be the owner(he wasn’t wearing an apron). He would smile at customers and chat with acquaintances. Before we started eating, I took my daughter to wait for the restroom to wash her hands. After a few minutes, I felt it took too long, so we just used Purell instead. Later when we were eating, the owner came and asked if my daughter had used the restroom yet. Seemed like a friendly and nice guy. The food here is decent, above average. On our visit here, we ordered: House Special Rice with pork chop: their pork chop was not breaded. It was tender and heavily marinated, which gave it a very strong taste. However, I felt they might have overdone the marinate, so the pork chop was a little too salty. However, it still tasted better than most other restaurants in LA, where they don’t marinate pork chops but simply bread and fry. The minced pork on top of the rice was not bad. I thought it had too much flavor from the 5-spice powder, but overall it didn’t affect the deliciousness of the rice. The House special version of the pork chop rice came with 3 side dishes: sweet and sour scrambled egg, bean sprouts with seaweeds, and pork ears. The pork ears were good. It was not Spicy City-good, but it was acceptable. The scrambled egg was soso, basically tasted like scrambled egg with ketchup. The bean sprouts with seaweeds was a good light side that complemented the pork chop well. Beef Stew with Noodle: The portion of beef was huge! They were quie tender too. The noodle was not hand-crafted, which was a caveat. But let’s face it, you don’t usually get hand-crafted noodle at a Taiwanese restaurant. Overall, a solid dish. Tapioca milk tea: This was a disappointment. The tapioca(boba) was not cooked with sugar. By itself, It didn’t tasted sweet at all. I think the proper way to cook boba is to cook it with brown sugar. Obvious, they didn’t use any sugar, even white sugar, to cook it. I recommend avoiding the boba. Overall, despite minor hiccups from the food that we got, this remains a cheap and delicious restaurant. Will we be back? I’m pretty sure we will. The value over price paid ratio is up there.

Cheap and simple food. I come here to get a quick lunch/dinner when I’m craving cheap and simple Chinese takeout. I never eat in because it’s just not that clean inside. For five bucks, you get a tasty filling meal. You get what you pay for… If you want high quality Chinese food that costs a lot more, there are many other places in the same city.

Short version: The food is delicious, the price is great, ’nuff said. Detailed version: The In-N-Out of Chinese fast food. Literally. The service is fast but you walk out with delicious food(with generous portions) at a great price. During summer time definitely enjoy their shaved ice. The owner(the one in regular clothes working the cash register) is very nice, even knows his regular customers by name, so if he’s there rest assured your experience is 100% Only complaint: They’re kind of stingy on the rice.

LETMEJUSTSAVEYOU A CONFUSINGDRIVEBYTELLINGYOU for one that map on Unilocal is MISGUIDING. this is really located in the hong kong market plaza in rowland near the intersection of fullerton rd. and colima. same plaza as garden café and yi mei deli and tanbii bakery but anywho. i haven’t gotten the food here but its pretty DAMNCHEAP. made me really HOMESICK because in la. i feel like i can never get away w/a 5 dollar meal. unless it’s fast food. what i DID get was the 3.50 shaved ice. taiwanese style i guesss. pick four toppings and add .50 cents for condensed milk. if you get it to go its 3.50. and plenty… but if you eat in. its around 8 bucks. but i think if you finish your ice and still got some milk and toppings in your bowl you can go get more ice.(i saw a lady do that) I EVENWANTEDTOGETMOREICE. they give you so much toppings. but then. i had the to go cup and didn’t know if I would be able to. MMM yay for mango pudding, almond jello, rice balls, and red bean. they have more toppings but. i dont think they speak a lick of english so. BRUSHUPYOURCHINESEORPOINTINGSKILLS

When it comes to shaved ice, this place does not mess around. Four items for $ 3.50, extra items cost $ 0.50 extra. Condensed milk is $ 0.50 extra and highly recommended. In terms of the toppings, you actually have a good amount to choose from. I went with red beans, grass jelly, mango pudding and ai yu jelly. After they filled up a plate with the toppings, they smother it with ice, condensed milk and sugar water. Personally, I would like it better if they fill the bowl with ice first, and then top it with the stuff but that might just be me. I also wish their ice was shaved a little finer but that’s a very minor complaint. Next time you’re in Rowland Heights on a hot sunny day, definitely give Shao Mei a try!

Great place to grab shaved ice! They have items of: –red bean –green bean –almond tofu –mango pudding(fruity!) — grass jelly — ai yu(some other jelly) — tapioca balls(the pink and white chewy kind) — fruits: lychees, pineapples… okay my memory fails me for the moment, but they have a LOT of choices! Just point and choose 3! The ladies there usually pack it with a lot if you take it to go~ and it’s only $ 2.50! Items are topped with a mountain of shaved ice and sweet brown sugar. For an additional 50 cents, condensed milk is added to perfect the shaved ice masterpiece!
