Cottages at Chandler Creek

The Cottages is a facility for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. I moved my mom into The Cottages on her 84^th birthday. Her stay lasted 3 ½ years.
Here’s what you can expect if you choose this place. The Cottages is a loving atmosphere that nurtures your family member. Mary Jane runs this place like every resident is her family member. Large tables allow for group meals. The meals range from ok to spectacular celebrations with family invited. Residents have daily schedules to help form familiar routines. You are always welcome to come in and share a meal and always able to check out your family member if you want to take them home for a family meal or celebration.
The Cottages is not perfect. What they are is proactive. If you will communicate issues, the staff is quick to respond. I’ll give you an example. My mom had another resident who was treating my mom meanly. She had bruised my mom’s arm twice in a week. When I called Lynda and Mary Jane and told them, the mean resident’s family were called and she was moved to an area where there was more supervision WITHIN 24 HOURS. A completely different building. That spoke volumes. There weren’t a lot of issues but every time they were quickly addressed.
The Cottages is safe. Electronic locks keep residents in the building and strangers out. Family members have the code to get in (or out). If residents get up at night, motion detectors alert the staff so they can check on them.
Would I do anything differently. Yes. I would if at all possible do my mom’s laundry. While the aides are generally great, they don’t know how to care for really nice clothes. If your family member is comfortable in Jeans and warmups, no biggie. But if you have nice things that need to go to the cleaners or carefully dried to avoid shrinkage, take care of this on your own. The Cottages like the residents looking nicely. This will save some angst.
This is a wonderful place with wonderful people. I am so glad I found it. I visited 10 facilities before making this choice. You will be glad if you choose this place too.
