Small little place yet cozy and reminiscent of Latin culture. The food was amazing and fresh! Definitely will be coming back. This time with the whole fams!

HORRIBLE, the service was the worst. Very disappointed, we have eaten there before with no problem. My daughters and I where looking forward to our meal. First wait 20 min to order then 40 min laters the owner comes over and asked if we were ready to order. We told her we had and she said sorry they must have lost your slip. I walked out, never ever again. Qué horror ir a comer allí. Fue la peor experiencia. Nunca jamás. No coman en ese lugar.

I came home from work and my hubby goes, lets go eat Mexican food. We decided to Unilocal something and it lead us to here. There is a private lot where you can park right behind the restaurant. We didn’t know this, so we parked on the street. I decided to order a combo plate. The combo plate came with one pupusa of your choice, enchilada and a soft taco. The enchilada and soft taco was alright. Nothing really stood out to me about it but the pupusas. This is where the money is. A pupusas is a Salvadorian stuffed corn fresh tortilla. I ended up ordering the cheese and beans pupusas but they do come with a whole section of different kind of pupusas. This is so good. I had them a couple of times but done that tasted like this. I will be back again and again for their pupusas!

Oh my god! I live in LA and I came to Rosemead to visit some friends. I got hungry so I opened my favorite app, Unilocal, and started looking for a place to eat. I was craving some chilaquiles so I found this place. I ordered 4 one green and 3 red. All with asada and sunny side up eggs. When the lady answered the phone she was so nice and very loving! As if I was talking to my own abuelita! She told me 15 minutes so I got there in 20 and my food was ready! My order was complete and it looked delicious! I get to my friends house and we all dig in. They were as delicious as they look! The green ones are a better than the red but still no complaints on the chilaquiles. They were portioned enough to fill us up! I will be coming back! And for 4 orders I paid 34 $!

Pretty legit Mexican restaurant. They have a tiny parking lot in the back for parking, or you can park on the streets. Now down to the food. You definitely get a lot of food for the price you pay. The combinations are well worth it. I got the Pupusa with 2 soft tacos and all this was under $ 8. Also got a Horchata, and they do free refills. They also bring out free tortilla chips with salsa, so you can munch on that while you wait for your food. The chips are not stale like some other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. Their salsa is good. Service is a bit slow, but it’s a family owned restaurant so it’s expected. I would go back and try out their other stuff. Side note: They have Chinese decorations in there too to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I like that they’re not just limited to celebrating the Mexican culture.

Okay. When you come here be very PATIENT and be ready to WAIT an hour for your food. Based on my experience and other reviews I’ve read, this is is what will happen: Walking in– you will walk in confused at no one really greeting you. Then you find your own table to sit. Ordering– you will wait 10 min before they offer you a drink(an older man, possibly the owner takes the order then 5 min later comes the wife to take the same order again, or vice versa). After you will wait another 10 before you order food. Your drinks finally arrive around 20 mins since you get there. Getting your food– expect something if not most of your order to be incorrect. Specially if you change, substitute, order a la carte, or order extra, any modification to their menu items will confuse them. They will get it mixed up. On top of this you are waiting for ever for the food. This restaurant has great potential and perhaps at one time was excelling in food and service but I think, with all respect, it’s time for grandma«Abuelita» and grandpa to take a seat and let the children or grandchildren take over this business before they really lose all their clients. They need to get organized because right now it is not running like a restaurant but more like eating at your grandmas house. Hehehe. One star for the food. If they improve their service and management then I would come back. The pupusas are delicious! Another star because after all the mess in my order the nice grandma did try to fix my bill(even though they messed it up).

Oh my, where to begin… I came here before with my dad and the first time was excellent. Met both of the owners who were as sweet as can be, the enchiladas were tasty and filling, yada yada yada, no complaints. Second time I came was good but I noticed service was what one might call ‘sometimey’. Waited ten minutes for our drink and an additional ten minutes to get our food order taken. It wasn’t overwhelmingly busy at all. The owners are older so no harm, no foul. Just left this place with my grandma. If you know me then you know how much I love her. Don’t give her attitude because she’ll return it two fold. I have a flu and we wanted to get some chicken soup. So we go there, parking sucks because someone decided to park an off road, big ass, all tires, loud truck right in the middle of their tiny parking lot out back. So we parked a block away. We go in, aren’t seated but rather are acknowledged and told to find somewhere to sit. Really guys?! Next up… we wait ten minutes for someone to take out drink order… fifteen minutes for someone to even acknowledge us… then the older woman, one of the owners, come to get our drink order. It’s as simple as it gets: two waters, no ice. Because I’m sick. We wait another five minutes, time passing with her passing by us twice with no water. Ten minutes later she brings us water. One with ice and one with no ice. Wtf. I tell her I’m sick and requested with no ice, so she takes it back and returns ten minutes later with water with no ice. By this time my gramma and I have known what we want to order for a while now and she doesn’t come to take our orders so we get up to find someone to say«hey there! Can we order some food?» And so the husband comes and takes our orders and leaves. Right after that the wife comes to take our order and asks if we’re ready… we tell her we found someone to take it because we’d been waiting too long. I know I don’t look like I speak Spanish at all… and I don’t haha. But my gramma speaks it fluently so she hears the woman tell the table behind us «gosh, some people are so impatient!» Really, lady? There goes any hope you may have had at getting a tip. Don’t talk shit about your customers, least of all right in front of them. Foolish. So out comes one of the cooks with our soup, he serves my gramma hers which is a smaller portion and comes with a taco. She ordered a chicken taco. So she gets a taco with a big ass mound of beef on it. Strike two! He then turns to serve me my soup, and HECOUGHSONIT! Then he turns around to cough into the air behind him, and says excuse me. You’ve got to be shitting me, guys! So my gramma calls the owner over and she tells her about the taco, which she replaces with chicken and then tells her about my being sick and her employee coughing in my soup. Then she says«oh it’s fine because there’s a little bump in the floor right here that made him trip a little and he coughed.» How the hell does that make any sense?! And how the hell is that okay with anyone??? Whatever. I decide that we’re already to deep into this and that I’ll just take some more medicine at home. The soup is good enough, but we were never asked if we’d like more water, which we would have, and before I was finished eating the woman came to the table and took my bowl. I wasn’t even gonna bother. I wasn’t done eating but at this point it’s not even worth it to me. She then comes back to drop off the check without a word, we go to the register and pay, walk out without so much as a happy new year or have a great day or thanks for choosing out restaurant. Silence. They were paid their $ 18.00 but received no tip or a goodbye. Bottom line is this: they had tons of potential, tasty food, but the shit service and bad attitude from the owner just sealed it. I won’t be coming back and spending my money here. Happy new year everyone. Ps– they get three stars only for the flavor of the enchiladas when I first came here a few weeks back and because the husband owner was so kind each time I’ve come here. He has a kind heart. They lost three for service, coughing in my food and not offering for a new serving, and the wife owner talking about my grandma and I in front of other customers.

I adore the décor inside the restaurant and food was delicious! The place is fairly small, but luckily, there was no wait when I arrived around noon on Sunday. Cute little mom and pop shop with bright and festive decorations on the inside. We ordered 2 sopes with rice and beans(lengua and asada), menudo, pupusas(cheese and jalapeño & cheese and pork) and huevos con chorizo plate. All our items were full of flavors and delicious. I can’t get over how delicious the food was, from the tenderness of the meat to the flavor of the menudo. The owners were very friendly! I am definitely coming back!

My husband and I came to eat here and we had mixed feelings. The restaurant is very clean and very nice. Costumer service is OK. seems like they have some regulars because they greeted them and spent some time talking with them. They gave them a lot of attention and we felt like they forgot about us. We asked for another pair of utensils(they only gave us one) and we never got them. We had to share I got the pupusa special. 2 pupusas, rice, beans, and platano. It was pretty good. Tasted fresh. Especially the rice. My husband got the menudo and asked if it has hominy and lady said it does. When he got it it was all meat and it was a little thick and not soft like it should be. And to top it off there was not a single hominy. The guava drink tasted a bit off. The cucumber drink was ok.

If you get the chance, the 2 for $ 0.99 to-go only deal just hits the spot. The meat was braised until perfectly tender, the corn tortillas tasted home made as well as their salsa that the tacos came with. Topped with cilantro, white onions, and lemons on the side. The décor of the place really reflects the food. Down home and just simple ingredients that just tastes good.

Food is made as you order, whcih can take awhile They have a variety of aguas frescas eg horchata, jamaica, tamarindo and soft drinks Very friendly owners and servers Enjoyed the green chilaquiles and the taco dorados. The environment reminds me of Mexico’s mom & pop restaurants

I really enjoy coming here because of the authenticity of the food and décor. It looks just like it sounds«grandma’s house». They have café de olla in red clay cups also atole de maiz. Their salsa is spicy but delicous. I’ve had the chilaquiles con salsa verde and pupusas and they were so tasty. Since it is a small family owned place patience is needed. Enjoy and bring a date or your parents..

Wow this place really named this place right. I mean naming it grandma’s house is the perfect description for a place. Once I arrived I found the small parking lot behind the restaurant. It was located next to a small house decorated with all sorts of cool ornaments and looked straight out of a children’s book. Once we entered the location we sat ourselves and notice that there was only one other family dining inside. A nice lady came to our table and offered us extra menus. I have to admit when I looked at her for the first time she did look like someone’s grandma that I might know. Anyways we started by ordering our drinks which normally are nothing special but this time it was above and beyond for a small spot. Coffee: was served in an authentic clay cup and had a smooth flavor with the hint of cinnamon which add to the warmth and comfort of the drink. Salvadorian ensalada: Which means Salvadorian salad in English but basically it is a refreshing pineapple juice drink with fresh fruit inside that they prepare well. After the drinks we placed our orders and had a chance to look around and enjoy the décor. It was amazing to look around at all the central and South American decorations, photos, and plants. It is very colorful and vibrant inside and my boys enjoyed the Spanish and English placemats. Once the food arrived we got excited because it was large platters and we were all hungry. So here is the list of items we ordered, Huevos con chorizo: The eggs were well seasoned and not greasy; also they were accompanied with some really good rice and beans. Chilaquiles con carne: They were also delicious and not spicy the chips were still crunchy and they had two eggs on top with beans and rice on the side. Everyone loved the flavor of the meat that we added to it and my boys didn’t leave a single bite. Pozole: My wife went with a bowl of pozole that she almost finished but was unable to complete do to it size plus she kept picking at everyone’s meals because everything was good. Pupusas: I got two one was just pork and the other had pork, cheese, and beans. They were both tasty and very light and fluffy and not greasy. So after we all ate family style sharing everything we all liked the items that we chose and everyone wanted to come right back. But after we reached that conclusion our nice server came with 3 free scoops of ice cream for my boys which put the meal over the top and the service even higher.

Cute little place with tons of festive and bright décor. We got an asado burrito mojado, and combination plate of: pupusa(pork and cheese), pastor soft taco, and a chicken enchilada. They also have chips and salsa(spicy but delicious) served soon after you sit. The burrito was okay. not super flavorful, but not bland either. The combination plate comes with rice and refried beans. I don’t like refried beans so I didn’t really eat it, but the rice was not bad. I really enjoyed the pastor soft taco — their tortillas were a bit crisp yet still soft between the two layers, and the meat was juicy. The enchilada was not bad and I really enjoyed the green sauce. The pupusa was probably my least favorite, unfortunately, and there was a hair stuck in the cheese in it that I didn’t notice till I was packing the rest of it to go :( We also got their melon agua fresca(cantaloupe) which came with free refills, and the horchata. I believe the very friendly and talkative lady who served us and who also gave us a free tamale(banana leaf instead of the corn husk) to try, might’ve been the owner. She took lots of pride in the restaurant and was very attentive. While service was very friendly when it was there, the downside was that because of all the décor and the slight awkwardness of the shape of the restaurant, we were a bit hidden and so it was difficult to ask for someone unless they came to take or orders, bring us the chips, or bring us our food. Still a cool place, though!

I’m all about little hideaways. Came across the restaurant because it was one of the few Mexican places to eat in a predominantly asian community. Inside: I don’t know if we came on inventory day or this is how it usually looks like everyday. There were sacks of ingredients in the middle of the small room that sort of looked like they did belong there… but again wasn’t sure. There are like 5 tables, it’s petite inside. The decorations very true to the taste of a Mexican household. Bathroom: No toilet seat cover, no paper towels, and they had dishwashing soap to wash you hands with. So basically this truly was like being in Mexico, bring your own everything. There were 3 abuelitas today. With thier apron only Mexican housewives wear. Legit. Their hair was also covered which was good in my book. Our Abuelita waitress took 10 minutes to take down 2 orders. She was REALLY making sure she didn’t forget what was ordered and handwrote everything. We ordered horchata to drink. It was GOOD! Refreshing, cold, not too sweet, perfect. No refills or at least we weren’t offered any. Food: Chilaquiles with egg and rice and beans, 1 chicken and cheese pupusa, and an order of sope de asada with a cheese enchilada and rice and beans. Portions are good for the price. Chilaquiles were super tasty but since I didn’t order that I had to eat my meal. Sope was so-so. I get disappointed anytime I taste asada with cartridge or fat on meat. This had both. Enchilada with rice and beans was tasty though. The pupusa had vegetables with skimpy chicken and the sauce the chicken was marinated in didn’t add to the flavor. I would steer clear of that. Now pupusas is not Mexican. They also had other Salvadoran dishes. Maybe one Abuelita is Salvadoran. Total was $ 24. What I didn’t appreciate was when another customer walked in they brought that person chips and salsa. We didn’t get shit. They didn’t even take the menus from our table after we ordered. The attention to the customer needs some adjustments. But I do think if they’re like most old people at their age they don’t give a Eff.

First and foremost… DONOT bury your grandma in front of your restaurant. It’s just kinda creepy y’know? On second thought… if the food is good enough… I don’t really care who you bury in front of your place of business. More power to ya. Special thanks to the homies Maggie C, Francine L and Lily A for bringing this place to my attention! SUNDAYFAMILYLUNCH Spoiler alert… we ordered too much food. ENSALADASALVADORENAANDTAMARINDODRINKS uniquely refreshing. TORTAMILANESA The wife devoured this and all I got was a measly tiny pity bite. Damn good btw. CEVICHECAMARON Not gonna lie… the lettuce made it weird and I don’t recall there being much shrimp… just too much fake crab. Still not bad. ENCHILADAPLATE Rice, beans, enchilada and a taco and a «salad» that should have never been invited to the taco/enchilada party. ALPASTORTACO Cuz it aint a taco party until pork is invited. Obviously. PUPUSA Delicious pork, cheese and beans in fried dough. Get this. POSOLE I swear to you that the pic does not do it justice! Rich, porky broth that even my picky ass kids enjoyed. Lastly… I changed my mind… if the food is this good… go ahead and bury grandma wherever you want. Yeah, I’m a sick bastard and I’m kinda sorry.

¡Comida deliciosa igualito como de su abuelita!(Delicious food just like grandma’s!) ABUELITA’s casa is colorful & festive. First impression when I walked into the restaurant was that a 64-count Crayola box must have exploded in here because the interior is decorated with lots of vibrant colors and streaming lights. ABUELITA was chatty and all smiles, cheery like the festive decorations inside su casa. She asked if we had been there before and if we had any questions on the menu. I responded in Spanish and her smile grew wider as she asked why my Spanish was so good and proceeded to tell me about a Vietnamese family she once knew that spoke perfect Spanish. ABUELITA gives great food & drink recommendations. My friend had her eyes set on a pineapple drink with chopped fruits. I, on the other hand, simply enjoy asking for recommendations & I was glad I followed Abuelita’s suggestion to try the melon drink. It was a deliciously sweet and refreshing 100% cantaloupe drink with all the pulp. We ordered two dishes: Asada burrito and the Pupusa + Enchilada + taco combination dish. The asada burrito looked quite lonely on the dish but it tasted good. The combination dish was flavorful. I didn’t care for the slaw though which was pickled and as my friend commented, it reminded her of kimchi. ABUELITA keeps you waiting. You know how grandma keeps you for way too long and makes you late to your next appointment? Well, it’s the same thing here. Abuelita was too busy talking with a lone diner that it took us a while for her to notice we had finished our meal and were ready for our checks. After she took my credit card, she took some time processing the payment because she was still very much enthralled in conversation with the other diner. I can’t really blame her for being so friendly but seriously Abuelita, I’m late and I have to go! ABUELITA feeds you. After we had paid and were saying goodbye, Abuelita asked why we didn’t order tamales. I told her it was actually what I had wanted to order in the combination dish but probably pointed to the wrong dish. She told us their tamales were delicious and a favorite. Without a word, she walked right into the kitchen and came out with two tamales which she packed in a bag for us to try. The tamales were still warm! We were a bit surprised by her kindness & thanked her profusely. ¡Muchas gracias señora, muy amble! I was too full to try the tamale but when I had it later all I have to say was that Abuelita was right again! ABUELITA, you remind me of my adopted abuelita I loved and lost when I was little. So consider it a fair warning that if you keep this up, I might one day be forced to adopt you as my Abuelita! I can’t say that I haven’t adopted siblings, parents, cousins because it’s how I feel at home when I’m far away from home. Abuelita, your simple gestures of kindness and happy personality made my day. I’ll be back to visit soon! Funny thing, I told my friend that there’s nothing I enjoy more than communicating with someone in their native language because service is usually better and it’s an opportunity to connect with a stranger. She told me she usually doesn’t do that because most everyone should speak in English. But I think my point was made when we walked out of the restaurant with 2 free tamales!
