I am so glad I found this little place. My boyfriend is completely obsessed with Balut and he has been craving it for months now so we took to Unilocal to see if we could find somewhere where they sell them and that’s when I found this little gem. I have never really been to Rosemead so I got a little lost but nevertheless I found it lol. It is located right next to a cemetery(creepy) inside of a little plaza with other miscellaneous shops. I walked in and I was warmly greeted my the friendly cashier and I was not sure how to pick the perfect eggs so she happily explained to me how to get the best ones! I was so grateful! She also explained to me how good they taste and what kind of sauce to make with them. I must say it was a food adventure for me but my boyfriend was super satisfied. This will definitely be the go to spot for some good ol Balut!

This place is either out-of-business, does not exist, or is such a tiny hole-in-the-wall that it is damn near impossible to find.

If you’re on a adventurous culinary mission and want to try something out of the ordinary & considered a delicacy in some countries… come here! Straight Bizarre Foods… Balut. Now what is a Balut? It is a Fertilized egg. Most popular is the duck although they have chicken as well. Yes, you read it correctly. It’s a fertilized egg. There is a duck embryo inside the egg. You boil the egg for about 40 min-60 min. Crack open the egg and suck on the«soup» it’s sort of sweet tasting. The yolk would be encasing the embryo. It has a unique texture. A bit firm but soft at the same time. The whites is very rubbery. Most people discard it, some do eat it. Some people eat it with the Vietnamese Coriander & dip or sprinkle some Salt & Pepper. It’s an acquired taste and it takes guts to eat that embryo as a whole! Bön Appetite!
