Ive been here a couple times and have ordered their salmon, tuna, and teriyaki chicken. Overall, their food doenst disappoint. Portions arent huge, but enough. All their entrees come with a side salad, mac, and rice. The macaroni salad is a little bland, but everything else is pretty tasty. My favorite dish is probably the tuna, because they give a pretty big sized chunk of fish for the price. For under $ 10 for a pretty well rounded on-the-go meal, you cant really go too wrong. Just be careful during peak hours(lunch/early dinner) because it can be really slow. Free parking in a small rundown plaza. You can miss the turn pretty easily…

Hole in the wall indeed. I’m pretty sure my room is bigger than the dining room but don’t let that deter you from trying the food. Japanese/Hawaiian grill type food. The pepper steak and sweet chili chicken are my favs. They cook the pepper steak a perfect medium rare. And it comes with rice, macaroni salad and a normal salad. Portion is decently big. You will not leave hungry. Pretty sure this is the place to go for lunch so it’s best to call in beforehand and to take to-go. Or hope that one of the 5 tables is open.

Quick, easy, reasonable! What else is there to say? I’ve tried a few dishes from here and don’t have any complaints. The place is pretty much a hole in the wall in a tiny strip mall next to a japanese grocery store. There aren’t many seats so it would be best to order to go(phone in ahead of time). So far my favorites have been the ahi tuna and soba salad. The ahi tuna is very tasty with a crust(reminded me of a dish I had in Hawaii) and comes with 3 types of sauces. I also like how it comes with a side salad, rice, pickles, and macaroni salad so you are getting a nice variety. The soba salad was also very good with a tasty dressing and pretty fresh greens. I’ve also tried the curry fries which were decent, but a bit salty. Also the curry is strictly just the sauce(no chicken, potatoes, etc.). It was still good but I personally prefer curry fries at B-mans. Overall this place is a really nice option for a quick and tasty meal at very reasonable prices! Also for lunch they include a free drink!

Where do I begin?! I’ve been going to Bachan’s since 2008, although after it started closing on Sundays, where I would eat after Church for lunch, I had to find other ways to get their food. I realized I should just go on a non-Sunday. Go figure. Well you probably know all about their combo meals and their popular items… all mouth watering deliciousness. This review is mainly for their catering service where you can order in large quantities and the food is placed in aluminum foil pans. Unfortunately they don’t provide any sterno gel cans or chafing racks so I had to go out and purchase these separately from party city. On to the food… Sweet Chili Chicken — -this is my favorite chicken dish at Bachan’s. I always figure that catering would be worse because they make em in such large quantities, but it actually was still the same top quality as their regular portions! The chicken was grilled and slightly charred, with a whole ton of sweet chili sauce that made it incredibly flavorful. I like that it’s not overly sweet and has a bit of tang to it. Teriyaki Short Ribs — -my guests devoured them and these went away in a zip. A bit on the salty side though it was probably because I poured on extra teriyaki sauce when it already had sauce in it. Of course these were marinated perfectly and was a total crowd pleaser. Eat it with rice. Macaroni salad — I agree with some of the Unilocalers that say this is a little bland, but in my opinion it also complements Bachan’s meat dishes quite well since it can balance out some of the intense savory-ness of their chicken and beef. I recommend always pairing it with something rather than eating it on its own. However I still like it on its own, it has a mild flavor, but you can always douse hot sauce over it. The catering version seemed exactly the same as their regular. Asian salad with miso dressing — I actually only ordered their miso dressing and put it on some mixed greens I got from Costco. The dressing was salty for sure. It’s miso, which is already naturally salty, but it’s not diluted much nor is it very runny. It’s a thick, thick dressing that maybe a drop or two would be perfect for one side salad. Aside from being salty it’s still delicious! Soba noodle salad — -OMG the best thing ever. We didn’t get this with shrimp in the catering order, though. Still the soba was cooked to perfection, al dente and held up well to the ponzu sauce. I loved the little extras in it too, such as the onions, cilantro, wonton noodles, and tomatoes. It was the center of attention at our party. Furikake crusted ahi tuna — this is a fabulous gourmet dish that I can’t believe is served in a hole-in-the-wall resto. The chef really knows how to make fish. The tuna was seared and seasoned well, and it came with wasabi aioli which I love. Then the ponzu just made it the most perfect dish ever. I ordered 10 orders of this for a 40 person party and it was enough with the rest of our other dishes. Catering was easy and they were on time for pickup. But no delivery. I would definitely use them again for future catered events! Thanks Bachan.

I LOVEBACHAN’S! It is a plain and simple love that happens when you consistently get EXACTLY what you asked for. I go here about once a week for the chicken teriyaki bowl. It is simply amazing.

I love this hole-in-the-wall! It’s in a really obscure parking lot and the restaurant is pretty small but I’ve always to-goed this with no issues. Their furikake crusted ahi tuna, like many other reviewers, is my favorite! It tastes fresh and the side salad and macaroni salad makes this a good light meal. I’m not really sure what their concept is… burgers, fries, ahi tuna, soba, short ribs?! I don’t know but I’m not complaining. I’ll try their chili fries when I feel like eating a fatty meal one day.

tl;dr: Reasonably priced selection of bento box style lunches, I enjoy the selection of grilled fishes in particular… **** HITW with four tables to seat maybe 16 people total which is why everyone takes out. They offer the usual teri and burgers just like everyone else so I don’t know why you would order any of that here over anywhere else except that they’re very reasonably priced. Everything except the best stuff is priced so that you can get out of here paying less than $ 10 a meal so you get choices for a pretty reasonable price. Lunch combo plate offered between 11−2pm includes bottled water or canned soda but since I’m paying around $ 10 anyway it’s no big deal, it just completes the meal… Furikake crusted Ahi is very popular and might be best, comes with rice sprinkled with furikake, as well as the typical mac and greens salads. Another good thing about this place is that you can get other grilled fish like Ono, Mahi-Mahi, or Salmon; some of them even come with steamed bok choy and/or soba if you prefer for the health conscience. I’m already looking forward to trying these… Not open particularly early or late, closed Sun and Mon so it isn’t the kind of place that is a life saver even when it comes to takeout food. Not too bad to have in your food rotation if you aren’t too far away…

Not sure why I’ve yet to review Bachan’s but this is definitely one of my favorite places to get take out in the San Gabriel Valley. I’ve been coming here since high school and they’ve been very consistent in their food craft. I normally order the furikake crusted ahi which is an absolute must try. The only better furikake crusted ahi I’ve had is from Hawai’i but that’s because the fish quality out there is obviously better. The ahi at Bachans is good quality and has a melt in your mouth buttery texture. The sear on the ahi is always perfect and the wasabi mayo sauce reminds me of authentic island foods. The ahi dish is generously portioned and comes with a delicious mac salad and leafy greens salad with a tasty dressing. I’ve also ordered soba noodles from here before and the quality and flavors were excellent. Bachan’s is in a small plaza in a more barren section of town but it is very worth trying!

So I want to start by saying that it saddens me that I’ve lived down the street from this place for 9 years, and just recently discovered it a few months ago. Womp womp! Now, the food. I’ve only tried a handful of items such as the teriyaki chicken plate, peppered steak, sweet chili chicken, the teriyaki taquitos(bomb), short ribs, and the ahi tuna(also bomb). Everything that I’ve tried has been delicious! Full of flavor, and always fresh tasting. Staff is friendly, and there is ample parking spots in the little shopping center. It is very hard to miss because it’s literally a little hole in the wall in a small shopping center. Don’t let the way it looks scare you, trust me, it’s delicious. If you are in the area, it’s a must try!

With all the great reviews, I had to give Bachan’s a second chance. Maybe the first visit was a fluke. I had tried their teriyaki short ribs(kalbi) previously, but they were left-overs, so they were cold. Warmed up in the microwave, they were decent so I just knew fresh would be awesome. So a couple weeks ago I went with a friend and the short ribs were sooooooo salty, smothered in sauce, and really on the cold side. I figured the cool temperature was due to the amount of sauce that flooded my plate. I ate half and tossed it. I told my better 1⁄3 about this and she insisted we go back, but she wanted to go also. Today my better 1⁄3 and I gave it another try. Since the cold, left-over short ribs were pretty decent, I wanted to give it another chance. This time I asked for the sauce on the side. Well, they came out and were even colder than last time. Since it wasn’t swimming in sauce this time, I was able to figure out what was going on. This time I had to return it since the temp made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I believe it was cooked long before, possibly thrown in the fridge. They took it to the back and a few minutes later returned. The top piece was super hot! It was also very oily and tough. I guess they left it in the microwave too long. The rest of my meal continued to get tougher as it cooled, just as my left-overs did the first time I tried it. What a bummer. So my conclusion is, if you don’t mind microwave warmed up food, this place is ok. If you prefer to have fresh food, I would look elsewhere. I would give 1.5 stars if I could, since it’s not horrible. The flavor is decent, for left-overs.

Don’t judge a restaurant by its cover or you would be missing out! I have known about this place for awhile now and finally got the chance to come here last week. Like most Unilocalers on here, I ordered the Furikake Crusted Ahi and it was amazing!!! Everything that was on the take out box was just so good. I just like how the tuna was served in a way that was cooked outside and slightly raw inside. If you go during lunch hour from 11am — 2pm, you even get a free bottle of water or soda as well. I am definitely a returning customer.

Thank you, Unilocalers! I surely enjoyed Ahi Plate! With the price, it’s a very decent price and good enough for lunch. Crusts are very crunchy but soft inside. It tasted good with the sauce that came with. It tasted like a bit like ponzu. Long line but it moved along. The food came out in 10 minutes or so. Lunch Special, between 11:00am-2:00pm, you can get free can of soda or a bottle of Arrowhead water. It’s in Tozai Plaza, you may miss it if you are just looking for the restaurant. Just look for«Tozai» sign. Big enough parking lot. Surely would like to try different dishes next time.

If I could eat this everyday, I would. I always order the ahi tuna and every time, it makes me pause and reflect on how tasty healthy food can actually be. Everything from the seasoning, to the dressing to to macaroni blends so well together. The best part about their food is that I still feel light enough to function and can avoid food coma, but full enough to last until the next meal, no problem. Ordering by phone and picking up is always smooth. I’ve never had any problems. Plenty of parking. Workers are always friendly. Very tiny inside, so I’m not sure how comfortable it can really be during lunch time when it gets busy. This is a MUSTTRY. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying it.

Bachans is great! Local hole in the wall spot in Rosemead. This is one of my favorite cheap and healthy spots. I like the Sweet Chili Chicken, crusted Ahi w/a side of Bok Choi, the teriyaki avacado burger and the tappan chicken. All the food is fresh and hot, I would recommend calling in a order as it can get crowded. Staff is always friendly and quick.

This place is a diamond in the rough. For reals. It is located out of no where is janky little shopping center. You pretty much will miss it regardless of how fast or slow you are driving past this place. But please slow down and use your Waza or Google Maps to get here. You won’t regret it. Try to call in your order because the wait can get long if you come into finally order. This place is more of a take out place.(OH! That’s why they have it in their store name!) But there are a handful of small tables here. As for things to order, I suggest the furikake ahi, the sweet chili chicken, and the curry fries. All have their unique tastes. The ahi is a bit small in portion size in comparison to the other dishes but it’s fish so maybe that’s why. The ahi is fresh and melt in you mouth. As for the sweet chili chicken, this dish is bomb. The chicken is tender, the sauce is sweet and spicy but not too sweet and not too spicy. The portion of meat is pretty big for this dish. I believe it’s dark meat just in case you don’t like dark meat. As for the curry fries, it is a great side for your meal and to share. I’m a sucker for curry and even though the curry here isn’t the best I’ve had, it is pretty legit. Try to eat these here cuz the fries will get cold/soggy if you bring them back home to eat. Lunch comes with a free drink! Sauces like soy, sriracha, and Japanese chili powder are all there but remember to ask for them if you get take out. Again I stress calling in your order because the lines get long…(like ridunk long sometimes). They are super friendly and always a pleasure when ordering and picking up orders. A must try if you haven’t been! And a must return if you have been.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and I visit often, at least 3 – 4 times a month. Their food is great! However, today I ordered a combo bowl and my ribs were raw inside :/I must note, that this is not normal, usually their food is consistently delicious. I called and spoke to Cody about the issue and he offered to replace my meal today or any other day. How awesome is that! Cody, if you are reading this review — Thank you!

Bachan’s is one of my favorite places for take out. My workplace is 5 minutes away, so I’m there all the time! There are inside seating, but only 4 tables inside. The restaurant is small, but quaint. The walls are decorated with framed photos of Hawaiian beaches. I normally order the salmon teriyaki plate or teriyaki avocado burger. The salmon teriyaki plate comes with a side of mac salad and green salad. If you go before 3pm, you also get a free drink! The food comes out pretty fast, but if you are crunched for time, I recommend calling ahead.

If you order during lunch you get free drink from the top row of the mini fridge on counter.

I. Love. This. Place. A coworker showed it to me a few years back andb I’ve been going since. The place is a little hard to find if you’re not looking for it. I like to come during my lunch hour and the place always seems to have good business but not too long waits for the food. The food is reasonably priced and tasty. My mom is one of the most picky people I know. She refuses to try new foods or places. I managed to get her to try this place and now she regularly stops to get dinner here after her work. It’s truly amazing since this is probably the only place in 10 years that she’s added to her routine food stops. Get the teppan chicken plate. You won’t be disappointed.

As mentioned by many others, this place is a total hole-in-the-wall take out place. But the food? Amazing! Our favorites are the mahi mahi with soba noodles. The fish is nicely pan fried with simple salt and pepper. The soba is plain, meant to be eaten cold dipped into a soy/citrus. It comes with a creamy mac salad, pickled cabbage and cucumbers, and a green salad. We also really love the Furikake crusted ahi, which is seared on the outside and rare inside, with wasabi aioli, furikake rice and the same sides. The sweet chili chicken is also a nice twist on teriyaki chicken with a bit of sweetness and heat to counter the soy. The teriyaki chicken taquitos are surprisingly tasty too, but they were greasy last time so I’m not a fan.

After visiting my family grave at Resurrection Cemetery & Mausoleum my wife and I were very hungry I check on my Unilocal app to what restuarant is near by to try out. I notices Bachan’s Take Out is very close we left the cemetery I was surprised the restaurant is just one block away from the cemetery. Bachan’s Take out in the Grande Plaza tug in between the Tozai market and cleaner and a Zumba studio. This is our first at the restaurant we didn’t know what to expect, we notice the menu on the wall and the food sound temping. We decided to get the both of us the teriyaki plate take it home. When we got home I was really hungry I open the box, my teriyaki dinner look so good. But my her Teriyaki meal was little bite disappointed because they put little bite of the teriyaki chicken because they are little bite of the near but I got a nice portion of meat. The meal contain a salad and macaroni and the teriyaki chicken with rice.

Came here for a quick meal the other day. It is located next to Tozai Market and a Zumba Studio so you cant miss it even though its tiny. People raved about the Pepper Steak and the Furikake Crusted Ahi so thats what we ordered. Both entrees came with a generous portion of white rice with some Furikake flakes, salad and mac salad. Pepper Steak: Meh, I could make better. Some of the cut up pieces of steak were really tender but some others were super dry and tough. I like the dipping sauce that came with it. Furikake Crusted Ahi: Didn’t really see the Furikake crust. It was kinda disappointing and bland :(. The saving grace was their super strong Wasabi Aioli! Not bad if you want something quick and cheap but don’t expect to be blown away.

First time trying this place, and had high expectations from all the previous Unilocal reviews. After trying it I found that it was okay. The food is tasty and fairly priced for what you get. We ordered the seared ahi tuna and had really high expectations for this, since everyone seemed to be raving about it. It was cooked well, and tasted good but I found it to be a little better than average. The curry fries were good, but were heavily salted. And last we ordered the sweet chili chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was yummy with a nice little spicy kick to it. A few cons that I found/noticed was that the restaurant is really small and has only 4 tables, so good luck trying to get one with the lunch rush. Also we got a drink from there little mini fridge and was barely colder than room temperature, probably because they just stuck it in there. They don’t have ice, so if this happens you are stuck with a warm drink. All in all I found this place to be okay, food was good, and prices are very fair

Located in the little plaza next to the Japanese Mini Mart & Zumba Class This place is really small, with only 4 tables for dine in. Everyone usually just orders take out since the tables are usually occupied. As for the food, I ordered the Furikake Crusted Ahi w/wasabi Aioli and it’s pretty good. I really like the crispy texture on the Tuna, never tasted anything like it before. Not a big fan of their rice or Mac, the Tsukemono(pickle vegetables) is tasty though. As for the salad, DONOTPOUR the whole dressing on it. The dressing is hella salty, I wish I tasted it before I poured it. T_T I could only eat the parts where the dressing wasn’t drench with the sauce. As for service, the girls working the front didn’t seem like they wanna be there, but the young guy who works in the back is really nice. I will be coming back again and when I do, I shall try their Pepper Rib Eye Steak w/Sesame Sauce. I heard that was the next best thing to the crusted tuna.

I love coming here to eat or pick up a meal to-go! The plates are very filling. You get a green salad, macaroni salad, rice, and your choice of meat for your entrée. What I’ve tried: *Furikake-crusted Ahi — My favorite! The ahi is cooked very nicely. *Pepper Ribeye Steak — Tasty! Good for days where you want steak. *Sweet Chili Chicken — Mildly spicy with the right touch of sweetness. If you come during lunch hours, you get a free soda or water with your meal. The first time I came here, I didn’t get anything but since I tried my friend’s sweet chili chicken, I knew I wanted that next time. And that’s what I got! Between lunch time 11 – 1, you get a free soda or water bottle with your meal. And also phone in your order to avoid the long wait. Cause it is packed during lunch hr. Both times I went, they had great customer service even though it was mostly kids taking your order. There are few tables to dine in but very squishy. If you get the plate, it also comes with a side of salad & mac salad. The sweet chili chicken is good but my only complaint is that it’s not enough rice for the amount of meat they give. I know who would complain over that but I don’t eat that much meat now. The chicken is really tender and juicy. Not too spicy either! I’m not really a fan of their salad dressing. It’s too salty for my taste. But the good part is that it’s NOT made out of peanuts so good for people who are allergic to it.

I wanted to be sure they were as good as their stars say, so I went here twice before I sat down to write this review. They ARE as good as the stars say. They’re a tiny establishment hidden in a plaza. It actually took me a few tries to locate them, so they really are literally a hidden gem(pun intended!). I tried the Furikake Ahi and Sweet Spicy Chicken. Both were delicious! The Furikake Ahi’s flavor was spot on. I love the sauces they provide on the side to enhance the already flavorful morsels. The Sweet Spicy Chicken, which very good, could improve. There was a tad too much sauce and was much more sweet than spicy. Although, sriracha would’ve done the trick, and I wished I asked for some because I’m sure that would’ve been the homerun for this dish. Added plus: choice of water or soda with any plate, bowl, or combo during lunch time! P. S. I didn’t have any trouble with parking at the times I went, but the parking lot is small and shared with the establishments around.

Another solid recommendation from my boss! He had mentioned he recently found this nearby Japanese place from looking on Unilocal and since then, he’s been enamored with their ahi plate. On a hot Friday afternoon, with no lunch plans, I ventured out and drove on Rush Street and Potrero Grande to find this legendary ahi plate. It’s a small plaza called Grande Plaza, but you won’t see Bachan on its marker sign(you’ll see Tozai Food Market and other businesses though). Look for this plaza and turn in. It’s practically across from the cemetery. Small parking lot, but we notice the cars move in and out pretty regularly during lunch, as some are making quick stops at the market or just to pick up their order from Bachan(because there are literally only 4 tables inside for seating). I can imagine the parking lot being packed when a Zumba class(which is also in the same plaza) is in session. I came with my co-worker and we decided to order two different menu items and split it. Of course, we got the FURIKAKEAHIWITHWASABIAIOLI plate. It’s in ALLCAPS because if you should take away one thought from this review, remembering what to order should be it! =) The plates come with rice(with some nori seasoning on top), mixed greens(with a sesame dressing on side), macaroni salad(very light yet tasty), and tsukemono(as a n00b, I had to Google what this was — Japanese pickled vegetables, everyone!). All for a very reasonable price of $ 9.25. If you order during lunch time(11 am — 2 pm every day), they throw in a free can of soda or bottle of Arrowhead water. My co-worker saw a picture of the ono and how gleaming white it was, so we ordered a plate for that as well, but with soba instead of rice. The verdict is that the ahi is the standout. We didn’t realize that one of the sauce containers was the wasabi aioli so we only used the ponzu sauce provided. Still good though. I did try the wasabi aioli later on and warning, it was the spiciest wasabi I ever had! It burned so much! But nevertheless, I will still try the ahi with it. The ono was good, but thoroughly grilled so it was pretty firm. We thought it would be slightly seared like the ahi, but alas no. It was okay, but not as delicious and satisfying as the ahi. Recommendations: — phoning in your order before coming to pick up — if not, order first and then take a stroll at the market next door for dessert and some Japanese snacks!
