Nothing but informative and helpful Michael has been talking to me for months, answering every question in a professional manner. Guiding me to the best purchase for me an my family. There are closer gun shops but I will always shop with Michael. He is the consummate firearm consultant who loves what he does and knows what he is talking about.

I have bought new, used, trained and had expert repairs done. And most of all, over the last couple of years, I have made friends. If you are looking to have your hand held or be coddled. You probably, shouldn’t have a gun, anyway! Just Saying.

This used to be a great place when the old man ran it in Roselle. I’ve gotten some bad advice from the new staff(his kids?). I don’t trust these folks.

I got sick after I dealt with the GunDoctor on Lake Street in Roselle Illinois. I don’t think I have ever written a bad review about any business online but this group is beyond belief. I dropped off 4 guns on April 12th at which time I was told it would take a month to fix and they would be calling me in a couple of weeks with an estimate. I called them last Thursday the 8th of May left a message and didn’t hear back. I call the next day and a man answered and look up up my information and very rudely said«why are you calling, it takes at least 4 weeks» I responded that I was waiting to hear about the estimate of repairs. He told me that they didn’t have a chance to look at them yet. Rude would be an understatement. He was obnoxious. Instead of arguing I politely asked if I could pick up my property and if there was any charge? Very rudely he said I come and get them and there would be no charge. I was there within an hour. When I got there a gentleman that attempted to help was motioned by a woman Mandi to let her talk to me. Mandi made no apology but stated that 2 of my guns were in in pieces being cleaned and stripped and that I could not have them because they did not have a gunsmith there that day. She admitted that she was aware of what I was told on the phone, but if I wanted my guns returned there would be a charge of $ 48.00 a piece and I would have to come back on Tuesday to get them. I told her that was not what I was told when I dropped them off and when I called. She pulled out some paper work that was vague and boasted about being the owner. I stated well you were here at the counter when I dropped them off and were part of the conversation. You would think that the owner of a shop would have a enough sense to back up their employees? What was really funny is the guy who originally tried to help me when I walked in tried to pull some tough intimating act by standing behind me when Mandi was being anything professional. I returned on Tuesday, honestly thinking that perhaps they were having a bad day last Friday and things would be different.. Mandi was there and I was treated extremely rude by another employee who reminded of Lurch. I am upset with my self because if I had read the reviews before going there, it would have given me a better idea of what I was dealing with. I don’t recall ever having such a terrible experience with a business ever. I have never felt compelled to write a unfavorable review, but this shop deserves it. the way they deal with customers is pitiful. I hope this review helps someone from having the same experience that I had.

This review is based on my most recent experience as an enrolled student of The Gun Doctor’s NRA Basic Pistol and Illinois Concealed Carry License course. First and foremost it is your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. We protect ourselves, family and loved ones through gun safety and professional training. Since the early 70’s and to this day, The Gun Doctor is family-owned and operated as a full service firearms dealer. Also providing in house gunsmithing services such as repair, restoration, refinishing and custom fabrications. When I happen to stumble upon The Gun Doctor’s facebook post that they were now offering course training and certificates for the Illinois Concealed Carry I immediately signed up. For the last decade I have been actively working in parts of Chicago’s southside neighborhoods that have been featured on the news for shootings and gang violence. Rather then being a statistic I felt as an educated individual to practice my Second Amendment Right with the help of professional instructors and course training via The Gun Doctor. Let me say this first. I have been to many other firearm shops and The Gun Doctor is my favorite. For those who are well invested in this hobby I assure you The Gun Doctor has treated me with kindness and respect as a beginner to this industry. The course instructors(Mike & Joe) are family guys just like anyone else with a massive amount of knowledge. I haven’t set foot in a classroom setting since my college days and the 16 hours flew by quickly. The course is NOT about sitting down taking notes while the instructors lecture. They give real life situations backed up by a powerpoint presentation. My favorite part of the course was the hands on questions and group interactions with my fellow classmates. The course atmosphere was family oriented with students ranging from both male and female ages roughly 30 years to 70 years old. The course training broken up into 2 day classes included in the range firing pistols, lectures, safety and body mechanics while carrying. My fellow classmates and I were a real team showing comradery. This was an eye-opening experience into what I imagine soldiers develop in the military with one another. Upon completion of the course we graduated with our NRA Basic Pistol and Conceal Carry Training certificate. I want everyone to understand that Gun Safety is everyones business and proper use is only developed through continued education.

I used the Gun Doctor to repair an old shotgun. They did a great job of it and it has never failed me since. This was many years ago when they were on Maple street. Nice people to deal with and reasonable prices.

I’ve done a few transactions with them over the years. There’s a sign on the register about them charging a $ 25 fee for«rude customers». Whether it’s tongue in cheek or serious, it’s just not good service. How can someone expect good service from a place with that attitude. Gun stores are VERY intimidating places. They don’t need to roll out a red carpet and give you a back massage when you walk in, but they also should have a level of welcoming. Its 2013. People are rude, obnoxious a-holes. There’s no way to escape it. Customers expect more from businesses. Gun Doctor needs to get on board with the times and adapt to the way things are. Customer service is the cornerstone of any business. Their selection is too small to have an elitist attitude. The sign needs to come down, and management needs to accept the fact that they are not immune to rude customers, especially when people are spending $ 500‑1000 a pop.

I called The Gun Doctor back on April 23rd and left a voicemail on their system to inquire about the availability of a certain part for a common handgun. It wasn’t until May 2nd that they returned my call with a voicemail to my cell phone. I’m not sure why it took a week plus, even if it was only a $ 35 part. Are they only available when they feel like it? It this a hobby business, or did I just slip through the cracks? I ended up purchasing the part at GAT Guns, which was a drive out of my way. If they had called me back sooner, I would have purchased the part through The Gun Doctor, as they were the same price as GAT and I would have supported a local business. I’ll probably give them a second chance in the future, but hope they are more prompt in returning phone calls.

I have been going to this gun store for the past 4yrs to purchase guns, transfer guns, and have gun smith work done and all those visits were a great experience till this past weekend. I have left a AR15 on consignment with them, so they can sell it for me. About a couple weeks later, I came in to take a pic of the my rifle, but the lady manager wouldn’t have it… saying she could not have the store back ground in the pic, but did offer to take a pic and email it to me, and I said great, BUT it would take 2 to 3 days. WHAT? I advise her I need the pic and just take it with my phone on the ground so your background is not showing. She left into the back complaining to the gun smith about me wanting a pic. I heard everything she said about me because they have paper thin walls. They proceeded to tell me to leave an email and they would email that same day. So, I believed him and continue to ask the gunsmith question on another rifle. I needed a barrel nut loosen, that’s it, nothing else. It was disassembled already, just apply the tool and loosen and he replies that it would cost $ 38 and a 3 day wait to loosen the barrel nut. I walked away angry and came back the next day to pick up my rifle. I went to another gun store who did it for FREE and took my rifle in consignment who sold it in just a few days. I will never go to this gun shop ever again.
