Okay service, nothing special on the menu. Terribly bored staff who are really not interested in the customers.

Grabbed coffee from here because the line at McDonald’s looked too long. I was offered a choice between regular, strong, flavored, or decaf. I chose strong, and if this is the strong, I wonder how weak the regular must be. Almost tastes like tea to me. If you didn’t know coffee beans need to be ground first and tried to brew with the whole beans this is the beverage I’d imagine you’d get. Grabbed a bagel with cream cheese and a cookie. The bagel tastes like the Thomas’s from a grocery store, the cookie was hard and not particularly tasty. I would’ve accepted soft or flavorful but neither happened. Stick to the chocolate.

This place has food that is consistently bad, chocolate is ok though. Don’t buy the chocolate dipped strawberries they never wash them.

When you’re doing the Indiana toll road thing heading east and have a craving for sweets and a chocolate fix in particular, try the South Bend Chocolate Co. It’ll do the trick, and they have coffee to boot. Nothing especially noteworthy about the place, but it’s a nice change of pace from the McD’s and Dairy Queen that also populate the Knute Rockne toll stop.

Did you know the toll to drive I-80 in Indiana all the way from Illinois to Ohio(border to border for those of you unfamiliar with Midwestery) is $ 7.50? It is. And, now I know why. The TRAVELPLAZA heavens that exist all the way through. You see, I’m used to only driving long distances through Michigan, which through all faults of its own does not have toll roads, thus does not have great roads, nor do they have superbly safe, sound, clean, well-equipped travel plazas a quick jump off the highway! With good coffee! And, one of the best parts of these Indiana travel plazas are the South Bend Chocolate Co’s located inside. Hot coffee, espresso bars, and CHOCOLATE should the fancy strike you. This particular one happens to be in the Knute Rockne Travel Plaza(a Notre Dame great) so I snagged my daddio a ND-emblazed dark chocolate bar for Christmas. Pretty sure he’ll think this is rad, wouldn’t most dads like a gift from a gas station?! Probably. My coffee was great(and brewed fresh, they made sure!), and kept me pumped up all the way to Ohio. Girls were friendly, selections were pretty vast and it sure beats the pants out of a pick-me-up from Mickey D’s. Plus, clean restroom right next to it. Score.
