This was my first time appearing in court in Rockwall County, and I was very impressed. Parking is free, which is nice. I’m used to paying $ 10/day at the Dallas and Tarrant County courthouses. The interior atrium is pretty impressive and feels more like a museum than a courthouse. In fact, there is a museum in the lobby, as well as artwork on easels. Seriously? Wow. The courtrooms themselves are magnificent and fantastically extravagant. There are individual TV/computer screens for each juror in the jury box. This was probably the nicest courthouse I’ve ever seen. Although it is all pretty mesmerizing, most of it seems like a useless aesthetic expense without regard for function or for saving taxpayer dollars.
