I was staying with friends in the area and needed a place for a run. I found Rock Creek Regional Park on Google Maps, saw it had a trail running through it, and decided to check it out. It was dusk on a hot and humid June evening, and the park was almost empty, save for some deer(who eyed me as I jogged past), lots of flickering fireflies, and a couple of lone strollers. There was a soccer game going on on the field by Veirs Mill Rd. I was pleased that the trail was paved, which made it impossible to lose and provided for a smooth running surface. The trail isn’t very long(from its start at the Hunters Lane entrance to its end at Veirs Mill Rd, it’s probably about 1.5 miles), so this is not a park for a long run, but, coupled with the round trip distance from my friend’s apartment, it provided a nice respite from the suburban traffic.
