This center is excellent. I did my research and visited numerous centers and at– home-daycares. Healthy Beginnings by far, beats the competition. The facilities are clean, the toys are in great condition and the staff is very friendly. Most importantly, the Director and Assistant Director, Julie and Sandy, are energetic, responsive, supportive and above all, professional. They have it together more than any other place I have visited. In fact, for a brief time, I considered changing daycare centers ONLY because of the other daycare’s location was closer to my home and it would have helped with my new job. However, after visiting the other center, I quickly realized that it in no way meets the standards that Julie upholds at Healthy Beginnings. Despite a 20 minute drive, we are confident that Healthy Beginnings is the best place for our family. Also, a few parents are working with Julie to create date nights on Friday evenings so parents can leave their children at daycare through the evening on certain Fridays, for a small fee, of course to cover staff time. I think this is a brilliant idea and it’s great that the staff is open to extending their hours on a Friday for parents to catch a break. The school menu includes a wide variety of food, including Paella, Chicken Tikka, Hummus, Quinua, as well as classics like chili, and BBQ chicken. Most other daycare centers provide simple food, such as pizza and tacos. The menu here is way better and rarely repeats the same meal in any given month. As for sanitation, it smells clean the minute you walk in. I’ve seen the staff spray down and wipe every surface in each room at the end of each day. Also, they are quick to wipe runny noses using sanitary gloves. Again, no other center I visited used gloves and a couple just let kids run around with runny noses(yuk!). Lastly, the staff have been there for years, some over a decade. It helps to know that Bright Horizon’s is a top rated company to work for. They all seem happy and proud of their jobs and that shows in their child care service everyday. They smile and greet you in the hallways — even if they are not your child’s teacher. I cannot say enough about how much we love this place. It’s our extended family and we truly feel like they are partnering with us in raising a healthy and happy little girl!

The Rockville Center’s Director Julie has a very unprofessional and amateur attitude. I called to inquire about my status on the waitlist. Her response was curt, rude and unhelpful. Apparently, based on her records, she had contacted me several times by phone and email. I told her I didn’t receive any notification from either and that the only email I received was from the Bright Horizons NSF Center in Arlington, VA. She very quickly snapped and said she had contacted me early 2011 and that I was automatically removed after being contacted three times without a response. I understand this policy, but told her I receive many e-newsletters from BH and asked what email she had used so that I could do an email search. Her response: «Well, I wouldn’t know which email they would used to send it.» I did a search through my emails going back to 2010 and still do not see an email from the Rockville Center or do I ever remember getting any phone calls. I understand that Bright Horizons has a good reputation and that’s probably why there’s a long enrollment wait time. However, this type of treatment is completely shocking especially coming from a Director. If you’re currently on the waitlist, I would highly recommend not relying on them to call you. It’s better to be proactive and call to check-in.
