The Bar-B-Que Shack

The Shack (BBQ, Smokehouse) catered my family reunion and I couldn’t have selected anyone better (we taste tested Hatfields and Mac…, Stevie Lew’s was closed every time we went by)! They were easy to deal with and most importantly, they exceeded expectations and went above and beyond for what would have been a very hectic and chaotic day. Everyone raved about all of the food (brisket, sausage, potato salad and beans), especially the brisket. It was the best I’ve ever had (really) and was moist, fall-​apart and tons of flavor. They also provided tea, the extra fixin’s, cups, plates and more than they normally do. And, the price was fantastic. Thank you Patrick for making the reunion a hit and everyone raved about the food. Some relatives that live in Corpus and around Woodsboro said they will come to The Shack for their BBQ needs! My turn to host comes up in 3 years and we’ll be using The Shack again. Thanks again!

We have heard good things about this place and finally gave it a try today! Best decision I made all day! We had the chopped beef sandwiches, 3 small sandwiches for $ 12 and loaded French fires that I shared with my husband (he had 2 and I had 1). The sandwiches were absolutely amazing! Their sauce is tasty and I didn’t need to add not one drop to my sandwich. The fries were thick steak fries covered in chopped beef and shredded cheese. So yummy! Their sweet tea was also very good! We will definitely be going back to my bbq fix.

Had been a while since my last visit to Rockport Fulton, always nice as a weekend getaway or the local festivals! but never had the chance to try The Shack, always would pass down Buss 35 and see the long line of patrons waiting, but never stopped? but finally! had a sit down dinner at the restaurant!
As I enter, the smell of good food hits me! burger? someone mustuve ordered a burger? and it smells good!
So against my own rules? do not go to a restaurant and order something different, than what they specialize in! I was wanting to order a burger, but my intent was to order a BBQ sandwich and try the sides, luckily someone in my group also wanted to try the burgers and BBQ, so we ended up splitting our orders!
Our order the Bubba Burger (patty/​chopped brisket) in check with BBQ, all the way with fries and a BBQ Po’boy our choice of two meats (sausage/​sliced brisket) with onions pickles, with a side of coleslaw.
So we get our order and everything looks good, trade half of our sandwiches and next, which to eat first?
The Po’boy, pickles, onions with BBQ sauce, bite into it and whoa!!! right away your taste buds are in a frenzy, like a explosions of good flavor, like BBQ at its best, now you realize, why those long lines at the shack!
Then the Bubba Burger, so after what I just ate? will it be better or should of just ordered the Po’boy
to late now? first bite its different but it doesn’t stay far behind! this has to be one of those so so good burgers! that you remember, like Heart Attack in Vegas, Luau back in the day, if you would put an egg on this?(not that it needs it) you would have me in for breakfast! well after what I had for dinner, I would be in here for breakfast and lunch!!!
So in all? The Bar B Que Shack will be a must stop when ever in RF!!!

Great brisket. Ribs were good, but dang, the brisket was excellent. Slaw was good, beans were okay, and the fries were great. They had a burger and fries special, but I didn’t travel 1,500 miles for a burger. Prices were great for the two meat plate! I’d eat here again and again.

Some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a long time! Everything BBQ related is amazing. Despite a few Unilocal warnings I ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer. no Bueno. The wings taste like they came straight from the Walmart frozen isle and into a fryer. But, this will always be my go to place because the actual BBQ is the bomb.

ORDER THE BBQ… Do not get the seafood, I repeat do not get the seafood. Bbq sandwich is so amazing, we go there everytime we come down! So worth it!!! The fish and hamburgers were almost sickening, and I will eat anything usually. Please, not the seafood. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I have no idea what these other positive reviews on the hamburgers are but I know good hamburgers.

Love love love this place!!! We ordered the small sliced brisket sandwich and a chopped brisket sandwich. Outstanding!!! Easily beats quite a few places in the hill country for best smokey flavor. The staff is super nice and attentive. Nothing much to look at but that’s the charm of it all. It’s very clean and when you drive by the smoke from the pit fills the air and draws you in. Have heard they have other great items on the menu but I can’t get past these two sandwiches!!! A must in Rockport.

Great food, BBQ atmosphere, helpful staff, good value. We took the family and would recommend this to friends. Brisket tender, falling apart, same with the ribs.

What a find! Melt in your mouth ribs and brisket in our baskets. Even the potato salad tastes like grandma’s homemade. They have the formula for BBQ that you don’t want to miss!

Great taste!!! BBQ sauce is a bit different at the beginning but you grow to love it got a fully loaded backed potato for appetizer for the table (4 adults) and the 3 meat plate for the hubby and I and we didn’t even finish our plate it was delicious tho!

The best BBQ within 50 miles that I know of. They have the smoking thing down! In fact I need to make this review short cuz I am gonna go get me some o dat. I have lived in Houston and Austin where there are definitely world class BBQ joints and this Shack can compete. It isn’t The Salt Lick with a great ambiance, nor are you going to have to wait in a mile long line like you will at some popular spots. I fear it may soon be discovered and it will all go to hell in a Texas hand basket. They even have hand breaded chicken fried steak but I haven’t tried that. OK, I am on the fly for some Shack BBQ :)

Good BBQ. Very affordable. We enjoy eating here when we don’t want to spend much. I personally have only ordered the loaded potato. They give you so much food for the price you pay. The staff is always friendly but never really attentive.

Tough Q? What is that? Un-​real to go eat at a BBQ joint and meat is tough. Dirty place, poor service, food below average…

The only reason I didn’t give this place five stars was because I person lay didn’t like the flavor of the chopped brisket, but I’m picky when it comes to BBQ. My girls loved it. They had the BBQ baked potato and the frito pie. They will be eating it for days. We ordered extra fries because they were sooooo good. The burgers are delicious! The atmosphere is good aside for the drippy condensation off the AC vent, but the AC works great and it’s nice and cool. We enjoyed seeing the local fishermen come in chitchat while watching a college football game. My Mother gives it 5 stars.

Ordered ribs to go and they looked pretty in the box and came with onions and pickles but when we tried them they were too salty and the meat fell off the bone. Ribs aren’t supposed to be like that. They sat under the lamps too long. Very disappointed!

WOW! I was in Rockport this weekend and wanted something other than seafood for lunch. After perusing Unilocal for some ideas, I found this place… SOOO glad I did!
I live in the Texas Hill Country and have been to many of Texas Monthly’s Best BBQ joints. The Bar-​B-​Que Shack easily holds it’s own with some of these.
I got the 2 meat combo plate and chose the brisket and ribs. I asked for some cow candy (fat) on the brisket and I was not disappointed. The brisket was very moist and had some great bark on it. The ribs were so very tender and fell off the bone.

Hubby had brisket n sausage. Very twnder brisket. Calamari appetizer very good n black drum fish basket fresh n tasty! Small, friendly place, good food, what more does one need?

Tried the brisket and ribs. Good smoke flavor. Lean beef, although slightly dry. Beans were good and clean. Iced tea hit the spot.
