Blacktop Comedy

Excellent local comedy show! Great way to support local comedy and emerging talent. Thursday, Friday and Saturday night shows. A must try!

I have been part of the Blacktop community for over two years and each year it gets better! This is a local theater company that puts the patron first. Stopping in on one of their Thursday open workshops you can really see how much the staff and others in attendance feel for one another. After two or three times there everyone knows you and you are welcomed into the group. This ability to take in anyone from any walk of life and teach them to support each other in making stuff up and never doubting is a very powerful aspect at Blacktop Comedy.

Hilarious! Family! Vibes! I’m talking about those good vibes. The kind of vibes that make you want to invite everyone in the building to Sunday dinner, and eventually drop to one knee after a three hour browse at Zales.
Blacktop creates a friendly atmosphere with their friendly and approachable cast. I’ve taken many classes there and I always learn something new. Also, I often gain skills that improve my personal and work life.
Let’s not forget about the shows! The Blacktop cast is full of a variety hilarious improvisers that will have you slapping your knees until you tear an ACL. Every performance is created on the spot, never to be repeated! All based on something you said!

I love Blacktop Comedy, because it’s more than a theater, it’s an awesome community! At first I was unsure about improv, was it really for me? Now, I don’t even think twice about going. The playgrounds (on Thursday) are awesome because you can take it at the pace you’re comfortable with. Everyone is learning new things, having fun, and basking in positive energy. The shows on Saturdays and Fridays are funny and different every time. Plus you’ll make tons of friends! There are also classes from amazing teachers. I’ve learned a lot about improv and myself. Come over to Blacktop Comedy and try something different.

What a wonderful place to learn, meet new people and make hilarious new friends! Improv is one of those skills that makes everyone a better person, but what really shines about Blacktop are Paul and Betsaida’s commitment to creating a strong sense of community and support in every single session/​playground they facilitate.
Whether you are interested in improving as an actor or would just like to try something new, everyone is welcome and everyone (no matter their skill level or how many times they’ve been to Blacktop) begins each playground as a blank slate. You also don’t have to step on stage at all if you don’t want to, but it’s so much fun that eventually everyone does!
I celebrated my birthday at Blacktop this year and it was pretty much the best decision ever. If you want a fun time that all your friends will remember: book your next party at Blacktop.
The shows are high energy and great fun as well! Check them out, they’re cheaper than movie tickets and way more fun. Bring your friends, bring a date, or go by yourself and make friends there… it doesn’t matter. You’re 100% going to have fun no matter what.

Very disappointed. Waste of time. I went to the 830 showing of belly laughs and I didn’t laugh one time. Terrible. It was a show of a mixture of improv and choreographed dancing and bellydancing. The choreographed dancing was that of a fifth grader. And the bellydancing consisted of four ladies in their late 60s, one attractive female and a 10-​year-​old girl. It was so hard to watch especially the 10-​year-​old girl shouldn’t be doing moves like that with adult women trying to be sexy. Trying is the keyword it was a train wreck I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Several people got up and walked out during the show.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Blacktop Comedy.
I visit once a year for the annual «California Improv Festival.»
My scene-​partner and I perform in Los Angeles, and have been to tons of different improv venues across the country.
Blacktop has something special and unique. Most importantly, their heart is utterly in the right place when it comes to fostering an environment for inspirational and evolving improv comedy.
Paul and Betsaida are both wonderful, and constantly willing to help and improve.
The venue itself is phenomenal.
They have three bathrooms, a parking lot, extra studio space, an incredible stage and space to perform in, and most of all, is filled with a loving, supportive community.
Though it’s a small school in a smaller town, I have huge hopes for this theater and for their annual festival. Each year, I’m reminded exactly why I do improv, and exactly what it could and should be.
I could review this place time and time again. It’s what we all want improv to be.

Somehow I found out about their «Squeaky Clean» show, and that it was for the «whole family» and even came with a family price. We grabbed the kids and went to check it out. Most comedy shows tend to border crude and lewd, so we tend to stay away.
The «Family Squeaky Clean» show was awesome. We were all laughing so hard, as was the entire audience. Just goes to show, you don’t have to be drunk, or stoop to low humor to get the laughs. The kids had a great time, and so did the adults. We will be back for this show if it comes again!
Laurie was the best! She was so awesome and funny!
Oh yeah, free popcorn too!!!

Finally! A place to go with the whole family on a Saturday night. Took two 8 yr. olds to the clean comedy, «Shorties» show. We had fun! The performers were very talented, creative and funny. True to the name, they kept it clean. We look forward to returning and making a night of it. We will do dinner some place first next time.

I celebrated my birthday at one of their shows and had an amazing time! They are hilarious and made my birthday so special! The guest participation made it so fun! I would definitely recommend their shows to people looking for a fun and unique way to spend their night :)
